  • Thanks to your advice and encouragement, I finally hit the 650b jump at Snow Summit Bike Park. I have ridden past this jump so many times and have never gotten up the nerve to hit it. I'd been told by many fellow mountain bikers how easy it is to hit, but I had developed a mental block to hitting it.
    Today, I finally get over my fear and hit 650b, and what a good feeling!
    I also crash. Tony from The Outsider MTB channel crashes...multiple times. Scott crashes. Everybody crashes. But it is still my best day so far at Snow Summit.
    Check out my OTB shirts!

    The 650b jump at the top of Party Wave at Snow Summit Bike Park has been a thorn in my side for a long time. For whatever reason, I developed a mental block and couldn't get myself to line up and hit it. This day, I aimed to change that, and your support had a big effect! 🤘🏽

    I dig when you and Tony ride together. I get to see the footage from multiple points of view. Second, you two ride at about the same level, and push each other to the betterment of both riders.

Super stoked after watching yours, and Tony’s videos. Somehow I have a feeling though I will not have the balls to hit 650b for a long time 😂

      Have fun up there. I'll be doing grown-up stuff and won't be able to ride much. 😭 Have fun at the Loooong jump contest.
      And hey! Don't take on my mental block. If you're competent on jumps of even just medium size, hit 650b. It's an easy jump. It only got into my head because I waited an entire season to hit it.

      @@mtb_alan yeah the Miracle Mile jump is smooth, what makes it harder is that it's bigger so requires alot of speed. Basically you can't touch the brakes as soon as you hit the pavers. The jump on Party Wave right after going under the bridge and tombstone on muscle beach are pretty sketchy because they pop you up

      @@mtb_alan You are the one showing a lot of riders that feel bad about being afraid that it's normal. MTB is a tiny niche segment of the world, but MTB still helps people find balance, feel accomplished. That is why the the openness you have and the content you create and share is important. Someone watching this video could potentially get that encouragement needed to meet their next goal and to "get that stoke", and bring it back home into their regular week and feel just a lil better about things. Pretty Dope. I hope when/if i ever get a channel going I'm as open and honest as you.

      Seriously. Thanks for saying this. It's cool to know you get it. My main goal with this channel is to multiply the stoke I feel on the trail. And nothing multiplies stoke like having real, shared experience. Fear and insecurity is part of that, so yeah...no reason to hide it. :)

    That jump is my head too. Though admittedly I am probably a much better jumper than the last time I attempted it. How would you compare this (size , lippiness(?) , landing) to the session jump at sky park ?

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  4 роки тому +1

      Yo. If you're good on Skypark's session jump, you'll be good on 650b. It's a pretty mellow jump. And coming up short on it is similar to doing the same on the session jump, but with less consequence because the backside of the jump isn't anywhere as steep. Hope that helps!

    Nice work on the jump! How does it feel compared to the bigger jumps at Skypark? I'm hoping to hit it this summer, too.

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  5 років тому

      Thanks! I’d say it’s smoother than most jumps at Skypark. Throws you a bit higher but in a controlled way. Hope that helps! 🤘🏽

    Great videos! I’ve always wanted to do this and I am coming up there in 2 weeks. I’m planning on renting equipment there, besides what they give you what else do you recommend? I see people with goggles, Fannypack’s, certain types of pants, gloves, etc. Is a backpack recommended or is a fanny pack better? How about shoes, what’s recommended? What about water bottles? Sorry for the newbie questions. 😎

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  4 роки тому +1

      At the park, carry as little as possible. Multitool, wallet, and maybe a water bottle. But there are amenities at the top and bottom so there’s no need to lug a bunch of stuff on your back.
      The only exception is If you’re gonna do stuff off the back side of the park. Then a water bottle, extra tube, might be good.
      As for apparel, really depends on how fast you’re riding. But definitely wear some knee pads of some sort.
      I wear a full face helmet and thus wear goggles. But I tend to go fast and smash my face into things.
      Also, if you have a bell on your bike, silencing it or taking it off is a good idea. It’s a bike park. We know you’re coming. 😆
      Hope that helps!

    • @mtb_alan
      @mtb_alan  4 роки тому +1

      Note: I do wear a fanny pack. But I think if I weren’t carrying extra batteries and GoPro gear, I would probably just have the essentials in pockets. Also, at the bottom of the lifts, you’re close to the car. 🤘🏽

      @@mtb_alan Thanks again for the response. I'm all booked and ready! BTW, I'm bringing my GoPro Hero5 Black. Do you recommend I use my chest mount, or a helmet mount?, or even handle bar mount? ( I even have a hand mount but IDK if that'd be good on MTB)/ :)

      Upgrade... 🤔 I was thinking maybe the Wolftooth Sustain conversion for the dropper, but then I was looking at the SRAM AXS stuff...either just the dropper or go all the way. 😱 Other than that, I'm pretty stoked on the current setup.

    • @JamesStoup
