I just bought your dye today, I hope it works on Veg Tan leather as well. I will also be dipping the leather in the dye, Is that ok ?

Any info on mixing/tinting shellac with these dyes? Looks like they are alcohol-based, so ...

    Hello,
thank you for your videos which are very useful for a beginner like me.
I have a question following a problem I encountered with Fiebing's leather dye; I applied the color purple on my handbag but it gives iridescent brown-green reflections. I don't know what to do... help :(

First, buff it with a clean rag. If that doesn't remove the iridescent hue, apply a neutral wax shoe polish, then buff.

Can we apply leather balm to prevent the dye bleeding if it connect to water?

    • @lachlanhudson7404

Im new to leather work, but in my understanding, leather balm is a top coat that is only naturally resistant to water due to its wax compound. You will also need to reapply it more often if the top coat is exposed to water. (Think of it like a car wax you put on after a complete car wash). I use resolene on my leather overcoat and it has a good water beading effect and ive only had to correct it once in one area where I put too much resolene on a section and it textured itself off and needed to be deglazed and recoated!

What kind of spray tools are you using for dying?

I need your help in this matter.
I got a leather sap made out of horse hide, which originally was dyed with fiebings oil walnut, and finished with resolene. Unfortunately it got a bad scratch so I asked someone to restore it for me. This person used fiebings deglazer, same oil dye colour walnut and finish it with resolene neutral, but unfortunately it didn't have the expected colour.
Is there any way or change to strip of the second dye and re dye it again so it will be as close to the initial colour.
First image is the original colour, the one on the scale, second one is the one I'm not happy with the colour.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
    Chris

You can remove some of the color with Fiebings Deglazer. However, when it was originally made, there was no color before dye was applied and now there is some dye color when new dye is applied...that means the result will be darker unless you lighten your shade of dye by mixing the dye with Fiebing's Dye Reducer

Yes. You may need to remove a top finish or tanning chemicals before applying dye.

@@cchase4314 Thanks for the reply. I thought I had a bottle of Fiebing's oil dye but it's actually Eco-flo oil dye by Tandy. On the product safety sheet it says it's manufactured by Fiebing's so I don't know if you can answer a question, and on that sheet it does not say how to reduce the product, which is a little strange. I need to know how to reduce this dye because it's too dark. I don't want to use neatsfoot oil because I don't want to apply that much oil. I tried methyl hydrated but it doesn't mix well with the dye. I'm working on a huge project and cannot afford to get it wrong. I'm just frustrated that it doesn't say on the label how to reduce the product and the Tandy stores are closed on Sunday. Thank you.
