The Beths EarthQuaker Sessions "Silence is Golden" & "Expert in a Dying Field"

New Zealand indie rock band The Beths stop through Akron in the middle of their 2022 tour to play us a couple new songs from their new record “Expert in a Dying Field”. The Beths always perform with amazing energy, and these undeniably catchy songs “Silence is Golden” and “Expert in a Dying Field” attest to that. This session was recorded at The Electric Company studio in Akron in August 2022. The Beths will be back in the US and Canada in 2023 supporting the new record. It’s really hard to say enough good things about these guys - or for that matter, even to narrow down a starting point for one’s gushing. They’re just all-around great in every way. That this sorry old earth can somehow still manage to churn up such gems every now and then - much less let them find each other and form bands … I can’t help but take as a message of hope and encouragement for the rest of us!

Hee hee … nobody reading this will ever believe me, but the following is all true!
Late last summer, several of my friends and I got into the Beths around the same time. As we all emailed back and forth, raving about how impossibly great they are and what our favorite songs of theirs were that day, I mentioned something to the effect of “wish we could get the word out about these guys … shame we couldn’t, like, hip Rick Beato or somebody in a better position to …”
My buddy goes, “oh, good idea! … I know Rick! … I’m on it!”
I knew he was well-connected but that surprised the hell out of me (and TBH I kinda thought “yeah, right”) - but then, whattaya know - a day later Rick did his stream featuring “Expert”.
Doesn’t matter who I am or who my buddy is; the point is that pretty much anyone with taste is gonna love the Beths - given proper exposure. But such introductions are always the tricky part, especially with so much stuff flying at us daily that really isn’t all that special.
