@EliasE0805 absolutely love the mx5. Bought an ND RF manual. Used to have a 370z and this car is even more special than that. It really is a 'driver's car' . When I test drove it, I immediately started laughing to myself, it just blew me away how different and special it felt. Played on my mind every day for 3 weeks til I went back and bought it. ReDriven review is absolutely on point.
This was one of my first scale models as a kid. So you can imagine how I felt when in mid-1990s suburban Melbourne, my friend opened his dad’s garage and I found myself staring at a Dodge Viper and 1969 Mustang. I couldn’t believe my eyes. For all its faults, lack of quality and exotic style, a red Viper RT10 still remains a childhood dream car 😍
A long time ago I did a skip barber racing course. The instructor took us greenhornsnonr by one as passengers for laps around the track in a Viper. I made the mistake of suggesting that, so far, he looked like he was showboating a bit. The next lap was terrifying.
My mate had a 2005 8.3 v10 viper fpr 6 years until he wrote it off. He supercharged it. Was dynoed at over 750hp. Number plate was VIPA for anyone who saw it driving around Sydney before its untimely denise. Was soooo much fun to drive. Mental as to drive especially supercharged.
Thanks for featuring this iconic vehicle 🇺🇸👌🏻 I’ve had a 98 GTS for 10 years and it’s been an amazing experience ! No mechanical issues to complain about and always puts a smile on my face.
The older they get the less complicated they are, alot less goes wrong and the mechanics like 'em. There's a message there. As soon as car manufacturers figure it out the better off we'll all be.
Unfortunately car manufacturers figured it out long ago, that's why they make them like that. More going wrong means more mugs getting ripped off by dealer servicing, and more expensive parts sold. Just look at Audi, their cars are often great to drive, but it's as if they design them on purpose (eg plastic PCV valve that fails and leaks water into the engine oil) to fail expensively.
As far as 90s US muscle cars go, I've always been a fan (especially in Aussie GTP race spec, ie Nations Cup) But realistically, a C4 ZR1 Corvette would do just about everything better, except they look mostly like any other 80s 90s C4. I kinda like the idea of a Redriven Collectables spin off series, too....
Door sagging issues are from coupe models with windows. They used the same hinges as the door without the additional window weight so the door sagged over time. Realignment isn't a big deal. The interior plastic is not thin. It's really easy to remove in order to refinish. This video sounds like a pretty accurate review though. It's so much fun to drive.
Hello from Houston America. Came across your video, and I liked it. I have been a Gen 2 owner for over 8 years. I would sell many of my other possessions than this. Every time I drive it still gives me the sweat. It reminds me on every corner and each acceleration that it is an untamed beast. Yet, each time it's mesmerizing. No other car has this unique styling ever and it still is a head turner.
Redriven is amazing, Jim is so transparent and honest, you guys are the real motoring journalist, not the bs guys upselling new car for some back door deal
I’ve had 5 Vipers over the years. 96,98,01,03,06. I loved them all. I sold my 06 in 2021 when I retired. The biggest issue I had was that new tires are virtually impossible to find anymore! I always replace my tires after 4 regardless of how many miles are on them. What good is an awesome car like the Viper if you can’t buy tires for it. 🤔 There’s a whole history about various manufacturers and tires which I’m not going into here.
I would never have picked this as today's review car in a million years so definitely a surprise. It sounds like you need the nerves of a pro racer with the truckies ability to double clutch a road ranger gearbox to drive this beast. It definitely sounds like the ideal project car due to being easy to work on. The front of it I think they based off of Ted Bundy as it's front looks like it'll promise you fun then try to kill you when you drive it with it's sinster smile. Great job guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual and keep up the good work 👍.
I dove one of these at a track. Three lasting impressions; that huge centre console, immense torque and awful brakes that lasted one corner. What a beast!
The Viper GTS has been my dream car since playing Gran Turismo 1 as a kid in the 90's. Would love to be able to just drive one; can't even fathom owning one. Thanks for doing this review!
Would love to see you do a C5 Corvette (if you can find one). Being over 25 years old, they're legal to import LHD without conversion. As mentioned on your recent ReDriven podcast with Justin Narayan.
Was looking at Vipers on the market today funnily enough. This video and the 40 bucks in my bank account should be enough to help me decide if it's right for me.
That's a rhetorical question, as Vipers are continually going up in price. Most are out of price range at this point. And having a sports car made with bin parts is the best thing which can happen to one in regards to ownership, as parts will be inexpensive and easy to obtain.
@@josephkelly4893 the later models have become Unobtainium. I've seen them go for a quarter million dollars, on those rare occasions when they pop up for sale... that's beyond the reach of any middle class person now.
@@FeintMotion Ummm with respect please check out carsales. There is a C4 ZR1 with 97,000 kms for $80k and two with approx 40,000 kms for $130. Currently there is a 93 Viper for $152k, a 93 Viper for $135k, a 94 Viper for $139k and a 94 Viper for $138k. So the ZR1s are cheaper than an early Viper.
I just want the engine out of it to put into a VN Commodore at some point. 8:38 the LJ/LC Torana has the same seating position where you don't face directly forward but obviously on the right side.
The 17 viper is a whole other environment when it comes to creature comforts. The prowler is the fun baby brother to the viper. Lots of creature comforts, good styling, much less expensive, but looks as exotic. I own a 2001 prowler and i get as much attention in it as a Lamborghini attracts. Not saying that the 17 convertible viper doesn’t get attention, because it does. Lmao

The Dodge Viper is - hands down - one of the greatest theater-vehicles ever made. It's a road-going Batmobile. An utter classic that out-guns almost anything the Euro's can deliver. Sorry, it's just the truth.
You spelt theatre incorrectly... Although this is a video with the steering wheel on the incorrect side of the car. So it's very much on brand to spell words wrong too. And as a man who's very interested in cars that bring the drama, a first gen Viper is very near to the top of my wishlist. Nobody quite does "in your face" like the 'muricans do and you just have to love that. Even if they do need a little help from the Europeans, or even on occasion us Australians, to make them work properly.

They're an objectively terrible car. But that doesn't matter. This is just brute force rapidity with a car plonked on top of it, and a wheel at each corner.
I had to double check your dimensions for your supra/viper comparison because I didn't believe you... I've parked beside a Supra before and the Viper looks like an mx5 in comparison. Crazy it's actually longer and wider, that's boggled my brain.
