I got the latest wave of Black Series figures out early from Toy Snowman (again!) all the way from Canada! Let's open them up and take a look at them.

The piece you talked about at 27:00 is the "bad motivator" from A New Hope. It goes in his dome. Kinda makes me wanna order a second one to have in the ANH section. Great video as always, Mike - thanks for sharing your thoughts on these.

Man, I'm sorry this wave ain't doing it for you. I'm so excited about this wave. I dunno about increasing the price point to add details, décos, etc. While you might not be priced out, I don't really need this line to turn into SH figuarts. Those are hard to justify esp when I don't make much...

Same here. I only buy Black Series (and some others) when they're reduced and at a price I can afford and think is worth it.
Baylan isn't only too short he needs to be bigger overall. He looked bulky and powerful in the show. As you say Shin is too tall. Swapping out legs is ok but could make the arms look too short/long.
Like you Mike I think they all need extra hand options. Ones that are appropriate. Relaxed, fists, force push, pointing or just cupping a weapon like Valaverse have. Laser bolt effects and jet pack effects would add to the fun.
R5 was always a favourite of mine. I felt sorry when he blew a motivator and R2 jumped the queue.
Mando fleet commander looks cool. Funny how he seems to have Imperial shin armour.🤔 I have three Axe Woves. Two I painted up as random Mandos. They add toy enjoyment. I fixed the helmet warping the smeared vasseline on the heads before pumping a smidge of hot glue into the helmets. Now they fit well and are still removable.
Star Killer looks cool but as they have the moulds why not give him a few accessories from the deluxe. Even only one extra pair of hands.

That’s fair man, and I appreciate the perspective of not wanting Figuarts pricing. And you’re right. There needs to be a balance.
Where I am the Force Unleashed set was fully sold out! Really like my Starkiller set. I used my Stormtrooper for AFK scene so Starkiller with extra accessory was worth it for me. I am still waiting for Baylan and Shin, will skip the rest and wait for ki adi mundi.. beside my wallet need time to recover from the bleeding.
The starkiller set is sooo good.
20:05 Robo from Fwoosh had a similar issue with his Sabine, except his was actually molded wrong. In his latest Black Series video he shows the second one he picked up and the helmet was night and day different (19 min 38 sec into the video where he reviews Marrok, Hera, and Huyang)

R5 doesn’t have removable panels on the head? That small piece looks like a motivator. You do bring up a good point. R2 has a buzzsaw attachment in the Bandai model kit. I’m going to have to see if the accessories are able to be shared in those ports. Hasbro being Hasbro. It’s almost like you have a guy whose job is to make great figure offerings just a little less so. Legions is quality. It’s an investment. Legions is more fun. It’s more fun to pick a top ten of that line over anything Hasbro made for Star Wars. I think for reasons Classified gets better treatment. But even Classified is Hasbro-fied. How can we make it just a little less desirable and sell them another tweaked figure in the future. Shoot. Buy Legions and if you tire of them they hold their value or increase. Hasbro makes more disposable things. In two years they give you a better offering to replace their last offering. Four Horsemen have to work to really improve their previous offering.
Nope, no removable panels on the head that I can tell. Hasbro did say that the attachments are meant to be shared around with all the new astromech droids.
I’m still enjoying black series and classified. But there’s something special about Mythic and Cosmic legions. I like that it’s its own thing with its own lore. I like that they don’t have to worry about making them kid safe and mass produced. It really feels like a line geared towards collectors rather than the mass market in general.
R5 Definitely has a little red panel on the top back that pops off to hold the teeny little “bad Motivator” (“so how about the Blue One???”). Also, the thing with the big black end with tiny grey cylinder is the welder, the “taser” is the shock prod for Salacious Crumb and the thing you call the welder is the thing R2 uses to activate the Hyperdrive on the Falcon (and did NOT mean that to sound dickish at all, total Astromech fan (re: Nerd) here so just sharing the data since Hasbro for some bizarre reason didn’t include a manual, a tiny pack in sheet or even a web address/QR Code on the package to a web site to explain the features! Love the new R2 and can’t wait to get my R5 and they are indeed light years ahead of the ridiculously out of scale 5” series one droids. But these still aren’t perfect and here’s hoping it doesn’t take Hasbro 10 more freaking years to fix the admittedly much more minor issues with these fantastic Astromechs! Great review!
@@NewtonDKCI completely appreciate this! Figures absolutely need to come with something. I think a QR code to scan to get a run down of the figure and accessories would be super helpful.

Hello Mike thanks for sharing your thoughts on this new wave of black series figures. Definitely the figures in this wave have issues.
I myself have also always had a special place in my heart for R5-D4 since I had the original from the the late 70's. I believe I got him for Christmas in 78; I think 🤔. The original R5 you had in the video wasn't R5-D4, I think he was from one of the Toys R Us 3 packs R5-D8 I believe, the GameStop anniversary R5-D4 has the correct colors.
Just a little info for yourself lol. I'm just glad you have posted another great video. I'm planning on getting both R5-D4 figures, I don't have the pit droids yet and I can have an R5 at the Jawas droid sale.

I’d love to see you do more Mythic and Cosmic Legions videos. I’m not too deep into Legions but a lot of their offerings have been quite tempting. Starkiller aside, this Black Series wave just isn’t doing it for me.
They’re so tempting. And so good.
If Figuarts puts out a Shin Hati, it would probably scale better with the BS Baylan

you should teach a course on how to get figures out the box. i hate that crunch and pause crap some of these people do where they pull the tray out and take each accessory out making as much annoying crunching noise with the plastic as possible. their douchebags for doing it. besides the amount of crack that was smoked when hasbro made baylan and shin's scale their pretty good figures besides that but were they kidding when they made baylan's lightsaber that long on top of everything else? crazy
Yeah, it’s one of the things I realized I liked about PFP. The unboxing experience was so much less annoying. I’m glad you liked my approach here. But you’re also right, Baylan’s height isn’t the only issue. He’s a big guy, making him taller doesn’t necessarily fix that.
Hm. I like the Black Series, I like the scale. Here, they are more like 30-40 € (depending on size/accessories). So I often hand around that amazon second hand site, where I sometimes get these figures at a, at least to me, more decent price. Sometimes the boxes are banged up. But I throw these away anyway (just cut out the murals, because I love those), so this is perfect for me. But as they are? Hard to justify. Just got Marrok, and I did not like him. He looks so off, his torso looks funny, the knee look funny, his feet look funny. But he should not be a funny-looking guy, he is supposed to look cool and menacing. Right now, I am trying to decide whether to hand him to my daughter, or jazz him up to be more screen accurate (which would be a ton of work. Maybe I would be better off getting 3d print files and make a 1/6 figure of him. Because I love how he looked in the series. Just what Hasbro made out of him is ridiculous).
Sadly, the FH Figuarts stuff is even pricier. Might look into their BOBF Boba if Hasbro does not manage to put one out next year.
I think the original R5-D4 you showed as a comparison to the latest R5-D4 is actually R5-D8, or perhaps you got one with the wrong paint application? If you look at other reviews of the older R5-D4, the side legs have a blue vertical color, whereas yours has red, which was what R5-D8 had in the exclusive Amazon Droid pack.
It is, I grabbed the wrong one off my shelf when I grabbed it to do the comparison.

I haven't seen anyone mention the socket shoulder and wrist before. Unfortunately Baylan won't make it to my shelves. Some rights, but even more wrongs about it, which is sad, as he definitely outshone everyone and everything in that dreaded show. Kind of the same with Shin, an interesting character but the figure is not good. I p.o.'d the Mando Fleet Comm. and R5 and I am looking very much forward to getting those! Although the helmet looks boba-squished.
Yeah, i dunked the helmet in some hot water and reshaped it. The image I put in the video of him has a fixed helmet.
Mike, c'mon, what about Shin's face sculpting, you skipped it, it's totally off,,,
I actually did talk about it. I went on a longish tangent about how figures we see in product shots or at livestream reveals are often hand painted prototypes. And how Shin’s face actually looks decent in person vs what we saw on the images.
