Pure character development here. Even though Spike was a bully in the beginning, he showed his heart of gold by showing genuine gratitude to the Mario bros for saving his life and leading all of Brooklyn in cheering for them.
Hey Mario fans! I am an animated music-making video game hero and I have just released my first album CRASTI LAND on UA-cam a few weeks ago. Since Mario & Luigi have inspired my adventures like no others, I thought I might share the news with fellow fans. :) Kindly and respectfully, I have worked very hard on my album and I'd appreciate every listen and review, thank you. I’m still in disbelief how good this and the Sonic movies were. In an era where it seems like Hollywood deliberately makes video game adaptations terrible, to have the likes of Mario and Sonic get movies and them BOTH be top tier is just the greatest thing. So, so good.
0:48 This scene always gets me. Not only is Luigi showing all his love and careness to his brother, but he also returns the favor for saving him all these years by protecting him. He even says the same thing Mario said to him before!
I also love how Mario is in awe and surprise when he goes "Lu!" in surprise at Luigi using that manhole cover to block Bowser's flames to protect Mario for all the times Mario backed him up.
This is the walking definition of a "fun movie". Doesn't have to be a masterpiece, because it's just so much fun. Memorable characters, intense scenes, heart warming moments, funny lines, not an overly complicated plot ect. These kinds of movies used to be more common back then, and then they slipped away, but glad we're seeing more of these kind. I don't know what critics were complaining about. This was a breath of fresh air to see, compared to all the other movies that have been coming out.
Listen up, kiddo. First off, let's get one thing straight. The Mario movie? Trash. And the new one coming? Don't even get me started. It's gonna be a dumpster fire. But you know what's really bad? Nintendo. That company is garbage, let me tell you. Marvel and DC are leagues above them. Their characters lack depth, their stories are unoriginal, and their games are downright lazy. So yeah, Nintendo sucks. Marvel and DC are the true kings of entertainment.
You know, I find it funny that while everyone's praising Mario and Luigi, no one is questioning why there's a princess, a little mushroom man, a talking ape, and a giant fire-breathing dragon-turtle thing in the middle of Brooklyn. Don't you think that that would have gotten some media attention?
They do get acknowledged in a newspaper article, though apparently the writer thought Peach and Toad are only dressed like a princess and mushroom. They do acknowledge DK as a "Giant Ape in a Tie" and Bowser and the Koopas as "a giant red-haired turtle, the leader of an army of armed turtles"

@@taylorsanada3180and as for the lack of a plot... Urm, they do know mario games almost always have very simple plots right? And this movie is trying to be very faithful to the games it seems
2:13 When I saw this part in theaters, I was like, “Yeah that’s it! Swing him by the tail!” Because I remember that was the only way to beat Bowser in Super Mario 64.
I like how well they illustrate how powerful and seemingly invulnerable bowser is in this movie it truly makes him far more interesting and intimidating especially being that Mario is a ordinary person in this
Best scene in the movie, by far. I can watch it over and over and still get hyped seeing these two run through and destroy the enemies and pummel Bowser.
1:09 They could have found another fitting 80s song for this moment, but they went with an epic orchestral edition of the Super Star theme. And in doing so, they captured EXACTLY how incredible that power-up is, and how Mario and Luigi were about to turn the tide against Bowser and his entire army.
Fun Fact: That's exactly what the executives at Illumination were trying to. But composer Brian Tyler had enough of their schtick and fought the studio to get his Superstar score in the final cut. And he succeeded!
Apparently the 80s song they WERE gonna use was "Jump" by Van Halen. The ONE 80s song that everyone expected to hear in the Mario movie, and it was to be used in the one spot we didn't want to hear it in. We're thankful Brian Tyler stuck to his guns and persuaded them to change their minds.
The final Starman battle was insane. I remembered vividly the moment the smoke cleared, people started clapping and cheering in my theater. My Jaw dropped. Personally I think this movie was a Love Letter to the fans that grew up with Mario and the gang. This movie still has me by its grip!
Screw what the critics say about this movie, I just got finished watching this movie yesterday and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life! The fight choreography in my opinion was awesome especially in this scene! I also really liked the Donkey Kong battle too. I don’t get how people hate this movie so much. Maybe because of Chris Pratt’s Mario voice? I think he did a fantastic job on it. Everyone did a fantastic job. The voice acting, 10/10. Fight choreography, 10/10. Everything about this movie was amazing I definitely plan to watch it again sometime in the future. Edit: just watched the movie again. Amazing as always! One thing I noticed that I didn’t notice before was that the plot did move a little fast but that’s fine to me. Still a great movie though!
@breadandcircuses8127 well i guess people have different opinions. Im a big Mario fan and i really enjoyed it. I just wish it was Peach getting kidnapped instead of Luigi.
@breadandcircuses8127 Thats.. how it is in the games. The princess is kidnapped by Bowser and Mario and Luigi have to save her. So thats how it should be
Even in the trailers, there were shots of Bowser saying something, and it's like "that's Jack Black, that's Jack Black's face on Bowser's face." They nailed that part.
@@TheSolarCobalt Charles did in fact voice Gesepie (aka arcade machine man) and the Mario Bros dad even in the Nintendo directs they mentioned he would be voicing a couple of minor characters and doing some additional voices. Charles does more voice acting than just Mario lol

I couldve never imagined seeing the superstar on the big screen. Its like you have the superstar power up in real life. I love it all.
2:13 Mario 64 reference! That was a Mario 64 reference! They thought they could sneak it past me, but they failed! And can we appreciate that Mario and Luigi's finisher in the fight was a friggin' Rider Kick? Awesome.
Not a whole lot of people I've talked to about the film even know what a Rider Kick is, let alone understanding how amazing Mario and Luigi pulling off a Double Rider Kick to end the fight was.
I like the difficult looks of anger on the brothers. Luigi knows Bowser is evil and a bully, but he spent most of the time in the cage and didn't see first hand what he did. Mario, on the other hand, saw everything. Forcing Peach to marry him, capturing and nearly killing the Kongs, penguins and Luigi, trying to destroy The Mushroom Kingdom, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. To me, Mario is genuinely pissed off. And Luigi has more of a righteous fury.
@@ModelT-690Well, yeah. But Bowser literally tried to kill Mario more than once and among other horrible things he did that he saw with his own eyes. It really makes sense that hes more angrier.
Luigi is a scaredy cat, maybe. But play M&L Dream Team, or Superstar Saga, or ANY ALPHADREAM MARIO GAME, and you'll see exactly how much these Bro's love each other. I'd HIGHLY suggest you try them, or at least watch a playthrough!
There is something so satisfying about this particular scene that makes me laugh like a child every dang time. It's probably the crunch of each of the hits the Bros put on Bowser, but god. It's so good. And Martinet's last line being "THESE ARE MY BOYS!" just ties the entire movie together with a neat bow.
Bowser is my favorite villain of all time. There’s nobody cooler than him. Being voiced by Jack Black just ads so much more flare to Bowser. I loved this movie. It’s definitely one of my favorite films of all time. I can’t wait for a sequel. Illumination absolutely out did themselves.
Fun Fact: 1:21 Mario and Luigi both hit their Up B’s from Super Smash Bros, 2:20 Mario’s forward air, 2:27 and their classic Jump Stomp attack from The Mario and Luigi RPGs.
@@hankmorrison269 no. Luigi’s forward smash is just him slapping his opponent. But Mario’s is a forward aerial which can act as a meteor smash if timed right.
I want so badly to go back in time to relive that moment. The minute the invincibility jingle, the single greatest sound you’ll ever know playing the original Mario game, filled the theater, I was all but balling. The nostalgia combined with how freaking awesome it all was simple defies description.
3:16 I love this bit, right here. Right off the bat, Peach has a positive first impression of Luigi, and I hope we get to see more friendship moments between these two in the sequel. Yes, I know Mario and Peach's romance will be important for the story moving forward, but I do hope we get Luigi and Peach to establish a close friendship too. The games don't showcase that very often.
@breadandcircuses8127 did you even watch the movie?! The whole reason Mario and Luigi were able to use the Star's power in the first place was because Luigi saved Mario from Bowser's fire breath. That took a lot of guts.
@breadandcircuses8127 still courageous enough to shield his brother from impending doom by blocking the fire with the sewer grate, that didn't require a power star. Will he be a coward in the next film? Sure but that has always been Luigi's character and when the cards are down and when his brother is in danger, he'll always be there to help his bro. He is a courageous coward. Actually more of a scaredy cat than a coward considering he still goes with Mario through the sewers which leads to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Crazy how bowser still kept trying to fight them off despite Mario and Luigi being invincible. It took awhile before they were able to wear bowser down. It shows how strong bowser really was. I don’t recall base bowser being this strong in any if the games. He was literally bowser but on steroids X 1000
@@joshuawillis602Didn't he literally survive a supernova at the the end of Mario Galaxy 1 and he also survived multiple black holes and took a dip in the sun lol
@@david_cool427YTMuch more than a supernova, he survived the end of the universe. However, he "survived" because of the lumas. More likely, he died right then and there and was restored by all of the Lumas sacrificing themselves to make a new universe.
Luigi is done so well, true to video game cannon. He is arguably the most brave character because he's also the most afraid of everything. Unlike Mario who seemingly doesn't feel fear. But if you recall Luigi's Mansion and at the start of this movie Mario says, "Luigi you can't be afraid of everything" and he responds "You'd be surprised". Luigi is constantly afraid but at the same time he ALWAYS acts, fights, and faces danger head on which is the literal definition of courage. Someone cannot be brave without first being afraid, courage is the act of overcoming fear. Luigi is the avatar representation of bravery and Peach after barely meeting him immediately recognizes it, and he jokingly says "Yeah it's kind of my thing." That's brilliant subtle writing!

Nah man, that one scene where he saves Mario gives me chills every time i watch it. There's just no way to explain how much the underdog doing some amazing stuff speaks to me
I still keep coming back to the climax and the novelty has yet to wear off. It never fails to uplift and inspire me. I only wish I could go back to watching it at the cinema. I knew that Mario and Luigi would get the power-up and win. But oh, my god, I was grinning like an idiot watching it unfold and hearing the score. Not only that, but it's a very subtle throwback to the beginning of the movie. Bowser gets the Super Star and gloats that no-one can stop him. We cut to black and the next scene is where Mario and Luigi first appear in their plumbing commercial, which starts with the first six opening notes to the famous main theme. Fast-forward to the finale where Mario and Luigi beat Bowser to the Super Star and become invincible. No matter how strong Bowser is, his attempts to fight back do nothing. They've taken down his entire army and just as they deliver their finishing blows, the music incorporates a reprise of the aforementioned theme, this time orchestral and triumphant. Bowser's declaration was contradicted by the soundtrack itself.
You know what they say, "One's defeat is always one's own making." Honestly I really loved the sense of irony that they used in the film. From Bowser being defeated by the very power-up he stole in the beginning, to Bowser trying to prevent a romance from blossoming between Mario and Peach even though they are just becoming good friends only for him to cause the beginnings of the very romance he was trying to prevent, as evidenced by Mario and Peach's flirting and them holding hands before Bowser broke free of the ice. Another old saying goes, "A man can meet his destiny on the very road he took to avoid it." 🙂🙂🙂
Opening night I saw this Movie in IMAX with my Wife and a crowded Theater, there were several moments where the people I saw it with cheered but once the Invincible Star music started it was like a Pro Wrestling crowd reaction.
I really wish I could experience that feeling one day. I mean, whenever I get in the theater with my family, they always tell me to tone down my reaction because I get overhyped when I see something exciting. The M&L games are like THAT. Luigi is a scaredy cat, maybe. But play M&L Dream Team, or Superstar Saga, or ANY ALPHADREAM MARIO GAME, and you'll see exactly how much these Bro's love each other.

Luigi is the avatar representation of bravery and Peach after barely meeting him immediately recognizes it, and he jokingly says "Yeah it's kind of my thing."

Superstar Track is definitely worth a jam! Definitely one of my favorite scenes from the Super Mario Bros movie
Another old saying goes, "A man can meet his destiny on the very road he took to avoid it." 🙂🙂🙂
I love how they grabbed bowser by his tail and spun him around like in Mario 64
That's the intention! 💫💫

So many times they punch Bowser, I've been yelling "Welcome to Earth!" and "Ahhhh!! Elvis has left the building!!"

Not me though! I hate it, hate it, HATE IT!!! 😡
Double UP B out of shield!
@@Shuyin781 What does that mean?
I love that Bowser mocks Mario at the "Told you I'd get you a pet turtle" line.
this scene is pure art and true to form to the original lore of Mario Bros. seeing just how pissed off mario looks at 2:21 shows how much hatred he has for bowser, for everything he's done to his poor brother. luigi is very neutral and knows that bowser is evil, which is why he fights as hard as he does. mario on the other hand, he's fighting out of PURE rage and fury. mario absolutely hates bowser in the short time he's known about him, and it shows.
this scene is absolute perfection and i love every part of it. the theater went nuts when this part played.
@breadandcircuses8127 it was an innocent comment dude, who hurt you
@@paranixanhe’s a troll going to every comment that loves the movie.
Yeah. This goes to show that Mario doesn't know when to quit, which what makes him fight back. That's determination right here.
@@paranixan If I have a nickel every time Internet jerks came to the reply section to spread their hate towards the movie that everyone likes, I have two nickels.
@breadandcircuses8127 Wow! I can't find any good point of your opinion that nobody cares about. Thanks to you, this make me love the movie even more.
The only thing I regret about seeing this in theaters is not seeing it with a packed audience. I can just see the crowd going crazy as soon as the music starts.
Nintendo and Illumination made a mind boggling perfect choice for Seth Rogan as DK and Jack Black as Bowser. i never thought the voices could compliment the characters but their voices fit perfectly.
I agree
2:19 - 2:21 Mario: This is for everything you've done, MONSTER!!! 😡 2:46 Mario: Stay down, monster.
2:02 Bowser picks up a car and throws at Mario and Luigi. Who does he think he is now, the Hulk?
1:18 Ok guess it’s our turn
3:00 I'd be like "EWW as if."
Same here
@ANTHONYACUNA1 both of us don't. Even most people don't like bowser.
@ANTHONYACUNA1 we're not a villain fan like bowser. Even my brother doesn't want me to be like him and I agree. And besides, he need to learn to take no for an answer because most of the people including me know that she never love bowser, but that doesn't mean she love him back and that's not how love works.
@ANTHONYACUNA1 exactly
@ANTHONYACUNA1 especially forced to marry a major jerk like bowser that's way low even for him
Bowser looks so pissed when he says "rip em to pieces"
