    Couldn't care less less about the sound the club makes when hitting the ball, it could sound like church bells,if it hits the green every time,great😊

    I went in to trade out my G irons for I 200. That was my goal. I ended up leaving with the G700 irons. Why? I was hitting it so well. I had a tighter overall shot area, nearly 20 yards more distance and it just felt great. The i200 felt sweeter, smoother but didn't perform as well. I was professionally fit over a 3 1/2 hour period from driver to putter. I left being SHOWN the difference in irons, performance and what WORKED. I could not be happier. I can't wait for the irons to arrive. I bout the G400 SFT driver, 3 wood, 3 and 4 hybrid and the 6 to SW G700 with a 58 degree Glide 2 gap wedge. I hit so, so many balls and while the sound was a "bit" offsetting, to be sure, the PERFORMANCE made the decision for me. I dearly LOVE these irons. My handicap? It's 14. I can see getting better with these irons. Thanks for the review.

    This summer will be my personal test. I’ve played Ping G25’s for the last 5yrs. I got a used set of Ping S55’s. We’ll see if my game improves or worsens this summer and see if what Crossfield is saying has merit.

    I completely agree I had the g40 and was sold them on my handicap at the time but I did not learn a great deal as my miss hits was going longer, now I use jpx900 tour and my handicap is coming down because of the feedback the club gives me. #realfeedback

    Mark - I'm a fan and a subscriber. But having scratch golfers, with perfect ball striking, test and review a club intended for high handicappers with inconsistent ball striking, is like having a sumo wrestler test and review ballet slippers.

    I have had taylor made r 7 draw clubs and played of 10 I comfortably hit the 8 iron 155 since buying these clubs I have come down to 4 little if no change in distance however accuracy is unreal however I now think it's time to move to blades what do you think

    Totally get what you’re saying. When I got back into golf last year, I used game improvement irons (thinking I’d try and get all the help I could whilst getting back into the sport - #marketingfool) and could never gauge how far the ball was going on off-center strikes. When actually trying out various different clubs this year, I found that with some more ‘player-style’ irons, firstly I could feel where I’d missed the ball on the face and also found that my mishits weren’t affected in the way that everybody says they will be - that age old common misconception that misses will be far greater with bladed style irons - it’s totally player specific. Also found that I control dispersion far better now (short and long rather than left and right). Top review.

    Hi Mark/Dan - just a comment when you two pro golfers were trying to work out the maths to see who was closest - you needed to use good old Pythagoras theorem rather than adding the length and sideways distances.!
    On the G700 review, I came across this strong Maraging steel a few years ago. I was playing some forged Macgregor 565 irons (lovely soft feel and my son still uses them) and tried their new NVG set which used that Maraging steel. Felt like hitting the ball with a chunk of plywood with a loud sound.

    Center of green at 155, clear on the front, so short isn't bad. It flys 165 into a rock garden, it was found but it couldn't be chipped out toward the green or anywhere else.

    It seems like the context of these irons are lost a bit. This is Ping's Max game improvement irons. Compare to the TaylorMade M CGB, Cobra F-Max, Callaway Big Bertha OS, etc. And don't forget to add the different loft options (power, standard and retro). In this category they certainly seem interesting.

    I agree with you guys, I'd prefer to come up short, and to be able to have a consistent spin model and consistent miss.. I've been literally experiencing this problem for the last two years with my TM Burner Plus irons (awkward). As my ability to strike the ball has improved, I've noticed I'm getting the random long ball like when Lockey was cupping his face. It's "cool" when my 7 iron goes 180 yards, but not when I'm expecting it to go 165 off a proper strike. So should I start to adjust my yardages for when I hit that centre strike? Actually being a long time viewer, I'm pretty sure it's time for a custom fit / lesson.. Maybe I'll end up with some Titleist blades 😳😏

    I had a custom set of Ping ZING's WAY back when they first came out and everyone of these irons had a HOT SPOT you hit it and it went 20-30 yards longer but the spot was only the size of a pencil eraser size , but when you just hit the irons around the center it was normal length shot , but when you hit that little spot it was GONE , I sold them to a senior and he loved them , I hated them . These irons are not my cup of tea , but I too like that finish .

    I'm the prototypical weekend warrior. Tested every iron under the sun. (game improvement, blade, hollow, hybrid set, etc) IMO, the Ping G700 is the best iron on the market for the average to slightly above average player. Long, solid, confidence inspiring, and performance above any other iron I tested. To hell with the sound and the "chunkiness" of the iron. It's designed for a specific player; the type of player who comprises 80% of the club buying public. Blades and other "beautiful" irons are going the way of the buggy whip. It's about time.

    If you are here because you are trying to find out if these clubs are for you then read on. I have been playing golf all my life and have been a very low handicap golfer since i was 16yrs old. I am now 51 and off 2 , don't hit the ball as far, nor do i swing the club as fast. I bought a set of these and people call them "game improvement" irons. Well, they improved my game !! Back shooting low scores again. Do not be scared to use clubs like this, you will adjust your game to suit. Golf is to be enjoyed and i am enjoying it again.

    I like that they didn't fill the head. It makes it lighter which I need. The standard swing weight of this iron given on the website is only D0 whereas most are D2 and I think the new Rogue irons are at least D3. Too heavy for me.

    Mark, I was hoping that you could compare/discuss...or provide general opinion on the Ping G700 vs the Cleveland Launcher HB. Both have hollow bodies, speed faces, low and back CGs, and high launch! I recently switched to the Cleveland’s and they have been fantastic, but I’ve found that they can be difficult to control in the wind (too much spin?). If you were to compare ball speed, launch angle (and angle of decent), along with spin how do the Ping G700’s stack up vs the Cleveland Launcher HB’s?

    I think the plugs you see in just about all hollow clubs are there as vents for when the club components are welded together. Without a vent, trapped air would expand and try to blow through the weld bead or interface. Great review, guys!

    I think they are hollow and therefore loud. Dan may have been picking out some Loctite thread lock. The screw would then adjust swing weight as there doesn't seem to been the same slot available as the G400 or I 200. Maybe...

    So if it's 6 iron loft spinning at 5.7K then that's pretty damn good for a super GI iron right? or is the stopping power compromised by something else like a less steep descent angle (relative to a bladed 6i) ?

    Greetings from New Zealand. Thanks for a thought-provoking review.
    As a high handicapper I’m interested in these clubs and would love to see you review them outside to try the noise, turf interaction etc. Likewise, a comparison to the Gmax or similar SGI irons from competitors (even TaylorMade 😎) would be great.
    Your comments on distance make me think, which I guess is the point. I find only the 7i up tend to be shots for the green, Longer irons will usually be to advance the ball, or will miss the green anyway. For me, I would see extra length in those ball advancing shots S a good thing, especially if the G700 is straighter. Am I missing something?

      I have played TM R7 CGB max irons for 10 years. I played with a friend who has the G700's and he let me hit them. I launched higher and went further. I hit his 5 iron 185 yards. When I got home I ordered a set. They aren't loud they just sound good when you hit them. I'm a 20 handicap.

    Not sure what you meant by "fake sound" when they chose NOT to dampen it. That is a contradiction in terms.

    • @flucazade
      @flucazade 7 років тому

      He's implying that the sound is there to make you feel like you are hitting the ball harder, as he mentioned tour pros hit the ball hard and their clubs don't make this noise.

    • @georgesmith4639
      @georgesmith4639 6 років тому

      If the hollow body did not provide more distance than a "filled" body then the argument could be made they just wanted to make people "think" they are hitting it harder, BUT, the hollow body does provide a higher COR and in turn ball speed than a filled cavity. So, there is no reason to accuse them of just creating a marketing gimmick.

    Would be better if you showed the impact position on each shot vs. the shot result, especially for longer or shorter shots. This club appears to have more weight in the toe to allow extra distance for slicers.

  • @gregburgin1210
    @gregburgin1210 6 років тому

    As usual every design choice has trade-offs. Does a person use a lot of the face? Do they want to avoid distance drop-off across as much of the face as possible? If so, then miss-strikes that cause a ball to go long (strikes with a delofted face) may go just about as long on an off center strike as it would hit out of the middle with a delofted face. It's the price that must be paid if you want the non-delofted off-center strikes landing on the green instead of short.

    I think most of us recreational golfers don’t want to lose distance when we mishit a shot. Half or more of my shots are mishit in some way. When they come up short, that’s an extra stoke in most cases. For me (maybe us), having a club that doesn’t cost me an extra stroke when I hit it poorly would be a big advantage.

    What I don't understand is why they make lofts so strong for clubs of this sort, the target audience of golfers generally would benefit more from grater height of shot for better control on landing not the extra distance, it would be interesting to see how an iron of this type would perform against a blade with blade speck lofts

    I have played Ping clubs for about 30 years. Currently I game G20 irons with 70 gram Steel Fibre shafts.
    There is a hot spot on the face of the irons that shows up about one in a round. The ball will suddenly fly 15 yards further than normal but straight. Please read some of the online reviews when G20 was the new kid on the block. The hot spot was mentioned then and is nothing new. My old Zing 2s did not have that. I suspect you have just found a characteristic of thin faced irons that might not be in every brand.

    You seem to be missing the point of game improvement irons for lesser skilled golfers....your mishits are way better than the player these are designed for....eh bruh?

    • @MarkCrossfield
      @MarkCrossfield  7 років тому

      I hope this is a joke. A none CG strike is a non CG strike. If you move further away from where I struck nothing can help. The club has no idea who is holding it.

      @toddsincock3621 7 років тому +1

      You and Danboy talk about preferring feedback from mishits rather than consistency from non CG strikes...I get this but think it's not the same for higher handicaps who have way more mishits. Isn't the point of the G700 to provide consistency from non CG strikes...or in other words less feedback?

      Bad shots are just as bad from "Game improvement clubs" as they are from blades! it's all relative,,,as far as head size goes with hand eye co ordination, large heads are actually harder hit in the middle!, It's like trying to knock a nail in with a mash hammer!

    • @toddsincock3621
      @toddsincock3621 7 років тому +1

      Ken Phillips huh, seriously? Larger heads are designed with larger sweet spots. Never seen a pro put a 20 hcpr in a set of blades, but maybe you are on to something...lol

    I do wonder..picture this: R&D Director...'how do we go longer with our irons?...R&D Exec...'Another couple of degrees stronger on the loft?....no-one will really notice, they just see the number of the iron, add a new pearly finish and speed sounding swooshy stuff and there you go...Years growth targets achieved! R&D Director...Well I'm sold, pass the word on and shall we take the rest of the year off to have a money fight? I'll get the sacks of 100's in....

    Beautiful clubs for a Ping product but waaaay to long, and yes the sound would bother me as well. Probably a great club for a beginner, I will stick with my S55’s 👍

      S55 is one of pings Best offering for a players iron, IMO g25 is the best offering for a players gi iron from ping. I’ve had numerous sets of ping irons to me they are the best club maker out there. All time favorites are the I3+ blades!!!

    most golf courses 'in my opinion' seem to have hazards in front of the green and to the sides, water, ditches, bunkers so longer miss hits, if consistent do sound that bad, i could build that around my game, shame we didn't have any real face strike data as my previous comment, as for sound, no damping means 'how the club naturally sounds', add damping and you are changing the sound, come on Mark thats a given
