I just bought them. Havent yet the opportunity to test, but i moved up a few categories. I was using old golfsmith xpc clubs which are 'players classic', so very unforgiving. I got used to them so much I rarely miss.
I have the G irons and they are ideal for me.I spin the ball up,which works great. Played Torquay a few years ago with my Dad.We got totally smashed after and had to be rescued by the wife. She was not impressed and i can't remember anything about the course.Looks nice there though :)
I just got mine. These are the best clubs I have ever hit. Moved up from G15 and what a difference. Outstanding accuracy is what first jumped out at me. Greens were hard as rocks due to stiff winds and no rain for 2 weeks. Hit a 6 iron 195 yards stiff into a green and the ball bounced once and STOPPED dead. (Kind of wish it would have released.....I was 30 feet short of the pin !! Ha). So very happy with the decision to get these sticks. Wow.
These probably are the nicest looking "g" series ping irons in a long time. Should fit into a lot of peoples games, but like Dan , with that kind of offset at address I'd never want them in my bag unless the performance numbers were too good to ignore. I'd just feel like I'm fighting the design looks too much in a 3-5 iron were the game improvement aspects of the club should be giving me the most confidence. Still Ping looks to have a really nice set of irons here
The difference in spin between yours and Dans using the same club must be due to dynamic loft versus static loft. That is, loft as delivered to the ball. You obviously deliver less loft at strike therefore less spin and more run on at landing. Makes a great point for getting fitted before purchase. As far as a lie in rough or wet grass it seems we all have to make our best guess as to what club to pull and adjust based on experience. Every weekend the tour pros are short or long over the back quite often. And they have been perfectly fitted. It’s a tough game.
As always Mark, a very insightful and considered opinion. Suggestion for future reviews: Is it possible to indicate what handicap range WOULD benefit from a given club or technology? e.g., Low, medium, high handicapper. Or perhaps offer competitions to your followers to join you on a test day for different clubs, and we get to see how low, medium, and high handicappers perform and find a given club etc? Keep up the great work. Andy (UK originally, now lives in TN, USA - we met at TopGolf in Vegas last November)
Mark, I imagine these irons are made with the common golfer in mind. I think you may agree that a very common ball flight for this golfer is a fade, or sometimes the slice? These shots typically produce rather high spin numbers, and would typically require some instruction/swing changes to properly correct. Having said that, the low spin characteristics would then become appropriate in many of these cases, allowing for better carry with sufficient stopping power. Would you say this is the true reason for stronger lofts+low cg?
Mark, both your spin numbers were actually good, his were really good for the actual loft...you have to remember, this loft is equal to most 6 irons so spinning at 6k is average and 7k is amazing!
+LJ & Son's VLOGS that's a good point but the trouble as I hope we showed is you can't lose too much spin at either end of the set also knuckleballs are always there 👍
Would you recommend these vs the Callaway Rogue irons? I am an upper mid-handicap golfer prior to a couple of year break, looking to get back in the game and need a new set of irons. Have narrowed down to these two.
I played i20's for 6 years and struggled with distance control , went to a Mizuno MP-64 blade and my scores have come down due to better distance control , even though I may have lost about a half club length .
Does the g30 sit better (spin better) on the green vs the g400?? I would say it's more important for ball to hit and stick than roll out. Please advise. Thanks
These clubs are actually the highest in the "low spin" "game improvement" clubs. The spin really is not that bad. Not far off from a forged iron for a game improvement club which really shows the technology in what Ping is doing compared to Taylormade who keep dropping the lofts which in turn drastically drops the spin rates.
Great review . I'm mid handy cap golfer . I'm looking at the g irons and the g400 . I don't care about distance. I want control and stop abilities on the green . Do you think the g400 better than the G . I would love to hear your feed back . Thanks for the great reviews on all the clubs and everything .
Great review again! - Would really love one of the manufacturers to create a set of these without the offset as I previously had a set of Ping i15's loved them apart from the long irons, just couldn't handle the offset and went back to my old S57 as I felt much more comfortable with the long irons. p.s watch most videos - but mt 1st comment :-)
I think another major consideration is gapping. Starting point would be my 50 degree which carries 120. The PW on this set would be at least 30 yds on plus roll. For me this would leave far too many situations without a playable option.
Really liking the 2 person testing for comparison. I was fitted a few months back and ended up with the cf16. Almost all reviews of this club also came back as low spin but with my delivery numbers they were spot on, just like dan with these. Seeing as you are doing lots more situational testing would you be better off switching to TM as it excels in reading this kind of real ball real course data? It would give you numbers to backup the wedge flier you got and be a great comparison to dan?
Golf club manufacturers should push selling clubs in pro shops with test sets, instead of giant sporting good stores.....the problem is pro shops think its o.k. to mark up merchandise 200%. Cost me damm near $100 for a collared shirt and a divot tool.
I say the mark up on goods is inline with how wealthy the course is (rich members), well that is in general what I see in the UK anyway. Because they know they can get away with it
Here in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, our club pro matches any deal the members can see anywhere on line or in store - so we get a good deal, the pro gets our business.
Mid irons and wedges for game improvers? Great review but what about the long iron game.. that’s where these should really score surely.? Love the 2 man review..
How come you use that orange or red dot is it mark? Is that the right fit for you? I've done my wrist to floor measurement and height which makes me a black dot, how important is that? Thanks braaaaaah
If these irons go longer and higher than higher-spinning clubs, shouldn't that compensate for the lower spin numbers from the same distance to the pin?
Read the GolfWrx article on decent angle making up for lower spin numbers. But I would have thought that would only come into play on softer "accepting" greens. For example where I'm a member, the greens at the moment or rock hard even full shot 60* wedges are bouncing and running off.
hi mark. wanted to get this in quick, can you include some data on miss face hits, i saw a vlog on the m2 irons ( by one of your bearded northern competitors, not the one with glasses ) and was shocked on the dry ball data let alone your course style ( which i love ) , strike, strike, strike, no more no less, save your cash, practice and play golf
These are fun to watch👍 If you take blade 6 iron and chunky 7 iron with almost same loft i think the results and spin are almost same. Dont worry bee happy 🤔😉
Mark Crossfield Thank you for answering. Interesting point 🤔 Well i think chunky 5 iron from the wet rough is easier than blade 4 iron (same loft) Knuckel ball!! Well im 12 handicapper so i would use hybrid anyway 😜
Mark - I've been playing for 2 years and managed to get my handicap down from 28 to 16. Managed this with the help of lessons and G30 irons. I make good contact but don't feel I'm ready for 'blades'. What irons would you recommend as a happy medium (between irons and cavity back)?
Have you ever done a review with a stock game improvement club them modified it (say bend it to more traditional loft) to see the results? Or is that just a waste?
You call these game improvement irons. When I think game improvement I think no feel and tough to dial in your good hits. Do you consider P790 or AP3 within this world of game improvement, or do the g400 go to a different level of game improvement? Great review as always.
Hi Mark, curious about your comments regarding spin being too low for your liking with a lot of the new irons. I remember when you were testing the G25 irons you said that you could easily game those. Now with G400/M2 and similar irons you say you probably wouldn't want to game them. Is it because these new models produce quite a bit less spin than the G25 or are you more focused on spin now you are probably getter more accurate spins readings and have also taken your testing out on the course?
Ok. Just getting back into the game after 10 year hiatus I am trying to understand club characteristics vs swing characteristics. I actually did a fitting now that the dust has been knocked off the swing and these clubs performed best by a long shot over all the other majors in this GI category (albeit red dot and 2 degree strong). I think this is what you were getting at in the vid. For my swing these were stopping on the green at the range. For your swing (flight/ trajectory) they fly over. Just don't want to get something that I'll get frustrated with in a couple years. FYI - followed your recommendation of finding a coach/fitter with full technical capabilities and outdoor range (full ball flight) for the fitting. Fantastic experience.
Steve Lunn very strange. If memory serves me, the Zing 7 iron was 35 degrees, about 4 degrees of loft weaker than the mizuno. Can't understand how you hit them the same
Garry Grant its 2 degrees weaker and the strikes felt similar but I'm assuming spin was different, it's just strange that 20 years of tech "upgrades" and it doesn't seem to matter that much
Steve Lunn I made the same reflektion when i started to play after 15 years and picked up my old Mizuno TPZ, compared to new JPX 850 clubs it was 1 club difference, maybe 1,5 to Ping G30. It's not like computer science.
Assuming the Zing's grooves were much more worn than your Mizuno's, wouldn't the Zing have basically been hitting flyers; hence equivalent distances despite more loft?
I havent watched the reviews for a year but what happend with ping removing numbers and it should only be G or i because it should be more like Car industry and year of the model. Now they started with Numbers again?
T. White he's said in the past that any handicapper can use any golf club it depends on how good your strike is 😁 I dropped from 23 to 14 playing with mizuno mp67 blades and there meant for 1-5 handicap 👍🏻 just go and test everything
Ping g irons nicer feeling with better flight and sound than g400.had my gs for 1 1/2 years and tried new g400s against mine last week..wouldn't swap mine for these, was disappointed ,just my opinion.try for yourselves
The way you guys come off in this video it could be perceived that you don't like these clubs and they don't perform well. Through the lens of a scratch golfer they obviously don't look or produce numbers like you would want. For a 19 HC trying to get better these would be great. That said I can use my "game improvement" G30s which aren't that different from these and hit elevated greens all day with no problem stopping. I don't know what the spin on them is but it doesn't matter to me. What matters is they aren't hard to use and I score well with them. The focus of these clubs is the be forgiving and allow golfers who don't hit as well to still find some distance so they get better instead of tired. 7k spin on a 7I isn't as important to the target audience for these clubs but getting the ball up and moving sure is. I have no doubt you (Crossfield) already know all of this and you sort of touched on it a little deep into the video. Unfortunately that isn't the impression a lot of viewers may get the way this review was delivered.
+Chris C didn't you line how we explained that for a Dan as the high spinner he could handle the drop off of did you not get that point from the video. 👍
G400s for distance. Ap1’s for spin. I game g400’s and i have 0 regrets. Best g.i. irons out right now imo. Ap1’s felt just like every other iron out, nothing special. AP3’s are the real deal.
so Mark said he is scared of the spin in a gaming environment.. so annoying .. put a camara on the green and hit balls from 160 see the difference of the balls landing from 5500 - 6500 spin bet it's nothing
+Richard Kidd maybe I need to to more on this subject. What is the difference in carry when the spin comes off that much? Also what happens on wet grass to spin? Or semi rough? Or wet semi rough? If you start from a low point of spin what happens in the above gaming environment?
Mark Crossfield I'm sure you touched on it before with spin on wedges and how they react on the green would be hard to try and test but I'm sure you will think of something 👍👍
who exactly are game improvement irons aimed at ? no good if i can't get the ball to stop on the green, especially on my home course, and if its toe or heel strikes then i can't say i have seen any data to prove improvement in this area at all distance control is hard enough but if you think you can guess the bounce, lie etc in the rough, fairway or bunker in front of the pin/green you must be a tour player or GOD you can't purchase good golf, have a lesson
Mike Gannon I went from Callaway S2H2's to Ping G irons and honestly the ball stops as good on the green. Just today I crushed a 5 iron off the tee on a 208yd par 3, my shot landed on the back third of the green and stopped within 10'. 8 iron stops within a few feet, wedge and u wedge can actually get backspin play. I can say without a doubt that the concern for being able to stop on greens is a bit over played. Just go out and hit the damn things and enjoy.
You keep complaining how these game improvement irons fly too far and don't spin enough etc etc etc so why don't you go back to that same 174 yard spot and hit an 8 iron instead of the 7 and see how it goes. You are always so quick to point out how it's the user who is responsible for the results not the club but here you are blaming the club and not really doing a full and proper test. You're better than this Crossfield.
Mark Crossfield yes I saw the dry ball data, however it's the on course real performance that we like to see. Is it a bad thing if you can hit an 8 iron 174? That's what I'm trying to get to. It would be nice to see 2 shots from that spot. There will always be a learning curve with new clubs and your time with them is short but in that case I'd like to see you try a couple of different clubs. Golf is a game of constantly making adjustments (lie, wind, pin location etc) and I'd like to see you adjust as well. Keep it up 🏌️
+Michael Pasvantis dry ball data was what? What yardage did we hit from? Thanks for the comments but we did what you said. Theses clubs can just fly subject to strike.
Mark Crossfield not exactly. Dry ball was 160 yds w a 7 iron 6k revs. The second shot was 168 into wind and you went w 5 iron which was fine but why not hit a stock 7 from there after knowing what it's done after that first shot from 174 or maybe also try and flight an 8 iron down to 168? I'm just saying I'd like to see a few more shots hit, I know the vids can't be too long either so basically I'm saying I want all possible content in as little time...oh boy, I just said that out loud 😂
One minute saying numbers don't matter, then a total contradiction on this test when all you've gone on about is spin numbers!!!your starting to confuse yourself.
+Sharon wooster not sure that is true. Numbers on the Matt on a launch monitor can tell you very little if you think distance is the box you look at. Did you see the situation tests? These clubs give great dry numbers, but that is not how we play golf. Hope that helps
Great review. Love the 2 man and on course test with data!!
I just bought them. Havent yet the opportunity to test, but i moved up a few categories. I was using old golfsmith xpc clubs which are 'players classic', so very unforgiving. I got used to them so much I rarely miss.

Only way to play you don't give a toss about your score
I just got mine. These are the best clubs I have ever hit. Moved up from G15 and what a difference. Outstanding accuracy is what first jumped out at me. I love my Ping Rapture irons. Loved them from the first day I tested them on the range 6 years ago and still love them today.
Loving having another comparison of Da's shots who hits to similar distances in totally different ways than Parfield
Love to see testing on the course.!Maybe next time have cameras set up behind green to see how ball reacts when it hits the green
These probably are the nicest looking "g" series ping irons in a long time. Should fit into a lot of peoples games, but like Dan , with that kind of offset at address I'd never want them in my bag unless the performance numbers were too good to ignore. Still Ping looks to have a really nice set of irons here
Don't need new clubs at the moment but will try these out.
Really enjoyed the on course testing with two players hitting the same distances etc. Keep up the good work.
Brilliant idea using Dan. Looking forward to seeing the comparison on other clubs from you both.
The difference in spin between yours and Dans using the same club must be due to dynamic loft versus static loft. That is, loft as delivered to the ball. Agreed
These new Ping irons seem to have better spin numbers than most other improvement irons. glad to see that at least.
LJ & Son's VLOGS s
I love the Ping revolution of recent models, nice clubs...good review mark 👍
LOVE the two person stats!
Bravo to Dan for the flat front trousers!!!
Great with Dans numbers as his ball speed is very similar to yours so gives a good insight.
Would you recommend these vs the Callaway Rogue irons? I am an upper mid-handicap golfer prior to a couple of year break, looking to get back in the game and need a new set of irons. Have narrowed down to these two.

I'm a fan of Ping irons. Maybe go with a G400 3,4,5 irons and 6 to P in the Iblades. Great review.
I love Dans hair curlies. Got to make the most of it while it lasts!
Great review . I'm mid handy cap golfer . I'm looking at the g irons and the g400 . I don't care about distance. I want control and stop abilities on the green . Do you think the g400 better than the G . I would love to hear your feed back . Thanks for the great reviews on all the clubs and everything .
I'm waiting for them to make a game improvement club with no offset
Feel , I love the feel , it feels great , it feels so nice , feels soft
Mark, would a different shaft give you better spin numbers?
Do the golf carts in England have the steering wheel on the right side like the cars ?
We tend to walk in England but when i have used a golf cart, they tend to be left-hand drive, curiously enough.
Well done good work once again Mark !!!
Can't wait to try them, thanks for videos!!
I like the format of 2 players, and on course data, just wish i knew how these "numbers" relate to myself, and my swing.
I think that it's pretty obvious a high handicapper (like me) would be happy with the help these clubs can give.
Like the finish on them
Great review again!

+Dave Parker think about wet grass and rough. How much spin can you give up.
+Dave Parker wrx are happy to sell products I feel.
Couldn't agree more, also I look at the the way I can play a low shot that cut's through the wind and spins and stops quickly. No descent angle there
hi mark. wanted to get this in quick, can you include some data on miss face hits, i saw a vlog on the m2 irons ( by one of your bearded northern competitors, not the one with glasses ) and was shocked on the dry ball data let alone your course style ( which i love ) , strike, strike, strike, no more no less, save your cash, practice and play golf

Got mine in blues

Mizuno jpx 919
Blake D Hot metals or Forged?
When you account for the fact that 7 iron has the loft of a proper 6 the spin numbers are pretty true
Thoughts on the G400 vs Z565 head to head?
Have you ever done a review with a stock game improvement club them modified it (say bend it to more traditional loft) to see the results? Or is that just a waste?

I remember when you were testing the G25 irons you said that you could easily game those. Now with G400/M2 and similar irons you say you probably wouldn't want to game them. Is it because these new models produce quite a bit less spin than the G25 or are you more focused on spin now you are probably getter more accurate spins readings and have also taken your testing out on the course?
Thomas Kuhn I
can you do a witb?
love the look thanks again
great review
Isn’t landing angle and trajectory a large part of what makes a ball stop on a green?
Yes sure is.
Ok. Just getting back into the game after 10 year hiatus I am trying to understand club characteristics vs swing characteristics. Where is coach Lochee please answer
I like the idea If testing with 2 players
7 iron pretty stronge ?
was under the impression that like alot of longer distance clubs theyve made degree stronger
awesome golf course
At the range today I hit my jpx 800 hd 7 iron 160 and then my mates ping zing 7 iron 160, does tech really move?
Howie Land the grooves were in good condition i just think how much can you get out of a piece of metal when it comes to distance
Good stuff Mark. Thanks Mark.
I havent watched the reviews for a year but what happend with ping removing numbers and it should only be G or i because it should be more like Car industry and year of the model. Now they started with Numbers again?
Where is coach?
Find a 16 handicapper, or Rory, and do some on-course testing with them.
T. White he's said in the past that any handicapper can use any golf club it depends on how good your strike is 😁 I dropped from 23 to 14 playing with mizuno mp67 blades and there meant for 1-5 handicap 👍🏻 just go and test everything
One word Dan. "Absolutely. I..." Oops seem to cut you off there. lol
Ping g irons nicer feeling with better flight and sound than g400.had my gs for 1 1/2 years and tried new g400s against mine last week..wouldn't swap mine for these, was disappointed ,just my opinion.try for yourselves
Mark,
You say these clubs wouldn't be for you, but you used the JPX EZ's.... ?
+Todd Wilson and I think that's my point.
Mark Crossfield what point? you speak in riddles half the time 😂😂
+Cornwall1888 used
Where is Coach Lockey?
The way you guys come off in this video it could be perceived that you don't like these clubs and they don't perform well. +Chris C didn't you line how we explained that for a Dan as the high spinner he could handle the drop off of did you not get that point from the video. 👍
Even with a tour ball and a flushed strike it didn't hold the green
G400 vs 718 AP1 which do you like better?
G400s for distance. Ap1’s for spin. I game g400’s and i have 0 regrets. Best g.i. irons out right now imo. Ap1’s felt just like every other iron out, nothing special. AP3’s are the real deal.
i like Dans number!
What price are these irons? // What price is the g400 driver?
Jiggle Jam 787.99 us dollars for 4-pw
so Mark said he is scared of the spin in a gaming environment.. so annoying .. put a camara on the green and hit balls from 160 see the difference of the balls landing from 5500 - 6500 spin bet it's nothing
+Richard Kidd maybe I need to to more on this subject. What is the difference in carry when the spin comes off that much?
Also what happens on wet grass to spin?
Or semi rough?
Or wet semi rough?
If you start from a low point of spin what happens in the above gaming environment?
+Richard Kidd also don't forget a higher strike on the face, then what happens to spin and carry numbers. 👍
Mark Crossfield I'm sure you touched on it before with spin on wedges and how they react on the green would be hard to try and test but I'm sure you will think of something 👍👍
Mark Crossfield good luck
+Richard Kidd you haven't answered my questions. Do they make sense how you might be missing my on course point. 👍⛳️
who exactly are game improvement irons aimed at ? no good if i can't get the ball to stop on the green, especially on my home course, and if its toe or heel strikes then i can't say i have seen any data to prove improvement in this area at all
distance control is hard enough but if you think you can guess the bounce, lie etc in the rough, fairway or bunker in front of the pin/green you must be a tour player or GOD
you can't purchase good golf, have a lesson
Mike Gannon you definitely get a bigger loss of distance on a mishit with a blade

Is Dan your new BFF?
You keep complaining how these game improvement irons fly too far and don't spin enough etc etc etc so why don't you go back to that same 174 yard spot and hit an 8 iron instead of the 7 and see how it goes. You are always so quick to point out how it's the user who is responsible for the results not the club but here you are blaming the club and not really doing a full and proper test. You're better than this Crossfield.
+Michael Pasvantis did you see the dry ball data?
I was pin high on the middle Shot too. I am also not complaining I am explaining. 👍👍
+Michael Pasvantis also Dan was pin high on two of his shots out of 3. Not sure why you are reading it the way you are.
I'm just saying I'd like to see a few more shots hit, I know the vids can't be too long either so basically I'm saying I want all possible content in as little time...oh boy, I just said that out loud 😂
coach has been sacked 😭😭😭
Was Dan the strange man in the red t-shirt that was following you around France???
Mr spin your so funny
Talking spin again mark
One minute saying numbers don't matter, then a total contradiction on this test when all you've gone on about is spin numbers!!!your starting to confuse yourself.
+Sharon wooster not sure that is true. Numbers on the Matt on a launch monitor can tell you very little if you think distance is the box you look at.
Did you see the situation tests?
These clubs give great dry numbers, but that is not how we play golf.
Hope that helps
