Weatherby® Presents: Banded Together - The Story of Jack Miner

Founded in 1904, the Jack Miner Migratory Bird Sanctuary was created to promote waterfowl conservation in North America. In 1909, Jack banded his first mallard duck and pioneered the bird banding movement creating the legacy that we know today. Jack was known as one of the world's greatest naturalist and contributed greatly to the study of migration patterns of ducks and geese. Representatives from Delta Waterfowl, Final Approach and Weatherby® were fortunate enough to participate in the banding process that continues at their headquarters in Ontario, Canada.

Nice presentation.
As a Wildlife Bilogist working for the Canadian Wildlife Service every fall from 1989 to 1996 in Bathurst, New Brunswick, I had the opportunity to capture and release 3 Mallards with Jack Miner's bands on them, out of the thousands of other ducks I banded. It was neat to see the bands, as they were larger than the regular ones we used, and all of them had the short Bible verse on them. Quite touching.

Crew up 15 minutes down the road. Our school trips every summer learning about this remarkable man. Only years later when hunting, do I appreciate the effort conservationists that make hunting sustainable.

When I was a kid my Grampa had a saying, “LIKE S@#T THROUGH JACK MINER’S GEESE” if he was talking about something fast.
Never new who Jack Miner was until resently.
