Is there a reason you didn't mention using antiseize on the threads, and dielectric grease on the coil packs/connectors? Also, I cringed when I seen 6 open cylinders. All I kept thinking is that, "NO NO NO! Never leave a cylinder open if you don't have to. Always replace plugs one at a time, especially in vertical plug holes. Errrrghh. At least take the plugs out from farthest to closest. That way, you're not over the open hole(s) multiple times, risking knocking foreign material into the cylinder."
Luke Edward best tip right here! Once my little nephew came to “help” ..he dropped 2 drain plug rings down the hole by accident...... took me couple hours to fish it out with a magnet
I appreciate this DIY video, it's very helpful. Please consider doing a highly detailed DIY video on replacement of the timing chain and tensioners on the same car featured in this video: MK4 VR6, 2.8L, 24V.
Just changed spark plugs in 2018 Passat GT with NGK plugs… having all types of fits with broken spark plugs and miss firing cylinders! Turns out 20newton meters is not what NGK recommends for their 12mm diameter plugs in aluminum cylinder heads! 10.8 to 14.5 foot pounds or 14.64 to 19.659 newton meters is all they recommend! Ordered new plugs and new magnetic socket and hoping I get it all cleaned up

hell yes its dangerous!! get a hi powered vacuum or an air compressor and blow it out!! once sand mixes with oil you'll never get it off your parts. Id change my oil too just to be sure.
Just had my sons vw in the shop. Wanted to charge me 1600$ to change spark plugs and engine valve cover. Said it takes 4 hours. I think I’ll do it myself valve gaskets are fine no leaking oil
Deutsche Auto PartsAm i a dumb ass and miss it or did your plugs come pre gapped? Great video Thank you!Color me subscribed. I have this BDF in my 2003 Jetta.
You made the job sooooooooo easy that if I have any spark plugs issue I would want to DIY... Wonder how much VW dealership would charge for this simple (at least in the video) task...? $1500?
Nice video I changed my spark plugs on my 09 v6 touareg but my cylinder 6 spark plug i cant take it out its so stuck...do u have an idea how i can proceed..im afraid im gonna brake it inside..

"if you're having trouble getting it up, a lot of times you just wiggle it like that"
lol !!
Ohhh matron! (for Brits of a certain age 😂)
What's the Gap on the plugs? Or are they preset?
I have been searching for years for the spark plugs on my TDI can you help? I think I need a tune up. 😂😂😂
Should be placed under the blinkerfluid reservoir
"if your having trouble getting it up" LOL
just wiggle it
The ignition coil connector is the most tricky part. Thank you so much. VW's connector sucks

Anyone else take off their engine cover to find a completely different set up?
Luckily my 2.8 was a super simple set up. Great vid regardless :)
Would like to see more videos on this vr6
can confirm, pulling the coilpacks without the puller is very very difficult.
Mine were very easy to pull out without a tool.
make a laso with string and pull them out.
I just used an L shape Allen key hooked under the coil pack and then pulled the Allen key up with a pair of pliers. It was actually quite easy :)
Your DIY videos are fantastic. The best on UA-cam. Makes me feel comfortable about working on my Audi.

Thanks. Too bad, this is different than my 2002 Eurovan VR6. On mine, you have to just lift the coil packs, no way to get any tool down inside there.
Schwaben tools are your friend. Get both the connector removal tool and coil pack removal tool. Thank me later.
To change the ignition coils, just put new ones in? And how would I change the ignition coil covers? I have blue ones that would match my engine bay
This designed similar to a inline 6 which great for at home mechanics.
I was hoping to replace my climate control to the automatic climate control from the golf r. I have a mk7 gti. Any thoughts?
The coil puller tool link isn't working. Please check
Thanks for this! I used channel locks on the coil pack to remove.
Thank you very good information 👍.
I assume this is the same motor as what is in the VW Atlas 3.6?
what other common cause with this machine could lead to misfiring have the same machine but finding it quite hard
Timing chain
Jordan station edition fire potion?
Dam I put them in too tight...
how would you go about a spark plug wire replacament? i cannot find where those wires end at :( can you help please?
This car does no have spark plug wires as the ignition coils go right into the cylinder.
Deutsche Auto Parts so that means there is no coil pack ?
i have a 2008 mk2 TT vr6.. same method?
Yes would be very similar
