Without spoiling:
- This series is a trilogy of novels. The 1st and the 2nd are complete and the 3rd is currently ongoing. You can imagine it as the equivalent of Lord of the Rings for how the story is connected.
- All 3 anime adaptations(Index - Railgun - Accelerator) cover events that happen in the first novel of the trilogy.
- Since you mentioned that the openings for Season 3 seems to be better that is because Season 3 aired recently(in 2018) while Season 1 and 2 aired back in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
- All 3 anime adaptations happen MOSTLY in the same area. The thing is that each adaptation focuses on a different main character. Pretty straightforward. The confusing thing is that the protagonists will make cameos in other shows. Think of it like how The Arrowverse did their crossovers.
- As soon as you do the Railgun and the Accelerator OPs, go back and do one little thingy.
Compare and contrast OP 1 from Index and OP 1 from Railgun. I really like how they handled those two OPs.

The author intended touma to be simple in the series touma always call himself a normal highschool boy

Trust me it's not a super short series (well the anime is right now but there's so much more content to come)

The show its is a better version of One Piece because at least the show ends and it's not like a thousand episodes they compacted two different series such as two Side Stories a movie in the main show but who knows maybe there's more projects in the future but other than that way better than one piece in terms of time investment
A Certain Magical Index is about two sides, a science side where you can gain supernatural powers through experimentation, and a magic side where you can gain powers through religion and faith.
The main character is named Touma and he is from the Science side and lives in Academy City, a major scientific power with technology that is 30 years ahead of the rest of the world. He has the mysterious ability to cancel out any supernatural abilities, whether it's magical or scientific-based.
The girl in white, is Index, the titular character, who's from the Magic side.

A Certain Magical Index/Railgun/Accelerator is actually petty good at not spoiling anything in its ops. Even fans didnt know what was coming just based on them. You dont need to wory about them ruining the series for you lol

Synopsis

Despite that, he claims to have rotten luck due to the misfortunes that frequently happen to him.
One day, a girl calling herself Index Librorum Prohibitorum mysteriously lands on Touma's balcony and explains to him that she is being hunted down by magicians. This leads the powerless boy to discover a whole new world-one where magic exists. With Touma facing the problems that arise from both the scientific and magical sides of the world, how will he resolve them?
Anime was totally a Butchered Adaptation, Light Novel is million Times better
The anime is good but nothing destacable, but the season 3 is the worst adapted, but I love this anime, but I maybe read the LN since later index 2 because to understand better, for me is better watch the anime and later if you like read the novels, a personal recomendation.

@@hotkei4049 Well the reason I say the anime was butchered was there is some details or scene that had been skipped example Deep Blood Arc and especially Angel Fall Arc, I hate the director for skipping Kamijou's past. For me I couldn't call it great because

The nun is weak as hell, even in Jhon pens mode is not as powerfull as the most powerfull characters.
Yeah the main character is really simple, is like a secondary character living in a world of main characters.
Thats because they cut alot of his character, in the novels he has more to him than even Accelerator
