Repairing an old Hitachi DH50MR Hammer that is leaking grease, loose head and fixing the tool holder

- The old Hitachi HM50MR Hammer came in because it was not letting the bit into the tool holder.
But the whole head was actually slack and wobbling around. the 4 bolts holding it had backed out and if left would destroy the piston and Hammer pipe.
quick strip, clean and rebuild with new grease gets her working and looking like new again.

Dean, watching your videos almost makes me wish one of my tools would break down and need repair--just to try to use some of what I've learned from you. Cheers!
Follow, I think I might be addicted to learning how to repair my tools. Cheers
Personally, I always quite liked Hitachi hammers. Maybe not as good as a Bosch, but good, simple robust machines none the less, and definitely better built than average.
You get and deserve a lot of comments knowledge and expertise. Your video editing is top notch as well. You speed through the boring or repetitive bits but every once in a while throw them in to show us how you do them. An example would be the parts washing in this video.
I like the hinged part of the clamp on the front handle making it easier to remove/install.
I’m telling ya, this Man is a Wizard! 😮🤔😊
Would be good to know the exact grease you are putting on for every task.
Mentioning 'Hilti grease' once didn't help much :]
On a 'plus' side - love the way you appear to get the right Allen key size pretty much 100%.
In which you wash spare sir
Nice job Dean. Lokin forward to the next one
Do you have a video converting a nicad to lithium battery drill
Well done !
As usual great job
good afternoon
what kind of white grease is this
Splendid job sir
Every time I look into servicing one of my tools I also randomly throw the parts onto my bench Dean style. Trouble is I haven't much of a clue how it all goes back together. Nurse!!!🤒
nice fix again!
What kind of lube does the piston take, is it just grease
Dean: How was somebody still using it with a rattling like that?
User: As long as it works...
Great stuff. Another enjoyable weekend watch in between making me culchie apple tart.
Do you have fun fixing those old machines
Its his job 😂
Id imagine he finds pleasure in fixing a machine with parts that have been sitting on the shelves for 5+ years when they may not be produced anymore as its verification hes looking after his customers as an independant repair shop vs an actual huge service center.
Hes fantastic at keeping 10+ year old machines going.
@@zaxmaxlaxeasy roy keane :)
@@Bobo-ox7fj that's right
What liquid are you using in the parts washer? Great vid!
That’s her 💪👍
I feel like everyone asks this all the time, and in fairness, I did try to google it! Does anyone know what type of grease(s) Dean uses? Thinking specifically of the high pressure high heat one. Tyia
PS - still praying for the “That’s her, done” line of merchandise !!
Grand one !
Hope you get a te500 avr in at some point
Unlikely, stopped taking hilti tools in for repair.
Quality has dropped so bad, there will be an influx of them shortly so we are stepping away from them.
@@deandohertygreaser gutted 😞
And people will argue with you up and down about "the great hilti quality"...lol
Dean, do you see those bosch cordless SDS hammers come in often for repair?
How do i contact you about reapiring a tool for me ? Happy to enquire and get a price but cant find your contaxt details. Thanks
sorry i dont put up contact details, because I only post these video to help other fix their own tools. I cannot take in extra work, I only do local repairs here for the shops regular costumers.
Hitachi made the best concrete tools, or at least they did 20 yrs ago.
In one of your videos you were showing tools to dump...could you not hold them fore parts...I hate waste and adding to garbage
I am a bit skeptical, about cleaning assemblies as one piece with solvents. That way you remove the grease between the parts, without actually regreasing during assembly. Plus some solvent might be also there.
He dries it before assembly, also, he puts a fair amount of new grease back, for good measure.
Air hose on it after, then along with the cut up rags from a closed down factory i think he said along with new grease. This man probably re assembles tools back better than factory due to the effort he puts in.
How may meters of tartan do you buy to keep you in tatty towels?
