A Hanging File Folder Turned Garden Planner & Journal | Flat & Utilitarian | Free Printable

- Hi, everyone! I hope your week is going well. Today, I am sharing a flip-thru of my new garden planner and journal I made from a hanging file folder and regular file folder. I wanted to create a space where I can document and log my garden activities so I can look back and see what seeds I bought, how I set up each raised bed, and what successes/failures I encountered. I knew I wanted a vintage type book, but I also knew I needed it to be functional. Needless to say, I am so incredibly pleased with the outcome -- flat, utilitarianism, and vintage gorgeousness!
This is a flip-thru, but if you would like a tutorial, just leave a comment and I will film and post one.

Would love to see a tutorial for construction. My farmers market people would love these. So creative-thank you for sharing.
Oh, that’s a great idea!
Yes, please!!!
I love this it’s gorgeous. What an amazing idea! I have raised beds as well and each year I try to learn from the last. So cool!!
It’s been unseasonable cold here so I haven’t started using my planner yet, but it’s starting to warm up, so it’s time to get it out! 😊
Ha, loved your remark about not knowing how to feel about items that have turned vintage after you purchased them. I feel that! Beautiful journal! It’s so refreshing to see a journal decorated with a light touch, with just the right amount of embellishments to be both useful and something beautiful that encourages you to use it. Wonderful work!
I couldn’t agree more, Diana! It has to be useful, otherwise it just sits on the shelf! 😊
I am looking for ideas on how to keep a functional gardening journey where I can put pictures of my plants, and I can write about their care info. Also somewhere there are pockets so I can keep the seeds/or tags. But also will be able to add pages so I don’t need to start a new notesbooks, and not going much of notes since I don’t write them all the time.. so yours is a good idea. Also I don’t like too busy inside like some of the junk journal, otherwise my eyes and brain will get lost in the journal 😂
Agree! Love this functional journal!!
I will love to see a tutorial of your file folder journal.
Thanks Lara! You’re in luck; it can be viewed here: ua-cam.com/video/Pc8DYjEqsGo/v-deo.html

I love it! A video, yes please - I have hanging file folders and file folders in every colour (office job - lol) and I can see so many uses for these including a gardening journal!
You’ll have one in every color! 😆
@@GinaMakesIt - I'm planning on it!!! I started ripping them apart yesterday - watched your UA-cam video countless times! Waiting for the tutorial!! Thank you so much!
Yes would love to see a tutorial!!
I would love to see the tutorial of how you construct this journal. This is what I’ve been looking for since I started learning JJ. Question: where did you get the inside paper that size & what size is it? TIA! 💗
So the darker paper is drawing paper and it’s from Amazon - I linked it in the description. The larger white paper is paper I tore from a very large drawing pad and folded into quadrants and cut. I’ll pull it out for the tutorial, so you can see it.
I’d love a tutorial on your technique for this great journal. I’m a backyard gardener, too. 🌱🌽🍅🥒🌶
I’d love to know how you make your journal x
Hi Julia, I did end up making a tutorial for this journal. You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/Pc8DYjEqsGo/v-deo.html
Hoping you see this. What is the cover size and the internal cover size? I’ve watched the tutorial but didn’t see this signing and regular 8 1/2 x 11 is so small inside.
Hi Cheryl…the cover of this one is 16 x 10 (so closed it measures 8 x 10) and the inside cover is 14.5 x 9.75 (7.25 x 9.75 closed) and the signatures are 14 x 9.5 (7 x 9.5 closed). Hope this helps!
