Back in late 2006, Chaos Sorcerer was still ruling the roost, and the best decks were all finding different ways to best utilize him; Chaos Return, Recruiter Chaos, anti-meta Macro Chaos, etc. etc. But there's a version of the strategy that had the potential to be absolutely insane, but we just never got to see it due to both timing and UDE's restrictions on when new sets were legal for SJC events. Power of the Duelist released mid-August and gave us both unerrata'd Future Fusion, which let you reveal the fusion monster and bin the materials immediately, and also Chimeratech Overdragon. Both Future Fusion and Chaos Sorcerer were unlimited at 3 copies, so you could create a machine-based Chaos deck that would let you either OTK with Future/Overload Fusions by dumping every machine in your deck, or you could at the bare minimum send a Cyber Dragon and a Dekoichi/Cyber-Stein to instantly get the materials you need to summon Chaos Sorcerer. You could do both with just one Future Fusion, which was unlimited. And Dimension Fusion, Return from the Different DImension, and Giant Trunade were all unlimited as well! I think this could have been the best deck in the format, bar none.
Except...if my memory serves correctly, UDE had a rule for SJC events stating that new core sets would not be legal for these tournaments until the start of the month following their release date. SJC Hamilton occurred during this time, but considering the top-placing deck wasn't on a single card from the set, I'm assuming it wasn't allowed. And then, sadly, the banlist that came out on September 1st, the day that POTD was legalized, banned Chaos Sorcerer and limited Future Fusion, ensuring that Chimera Chaos would never actually exist. If you were lucky, maybe you got to play the deck at locals during that two-week period, but on the highest stages of competition, it just came at the wrong time.

D/D/D could be on that list twice.
The lvl8 turbo build could easily demolish sky striker thanks to Shizuku's arrow (not wasting materials), and it had anti-burn built-in for Trickstar. It even had some tops in the OCG with Swirl at 2. But it missed Big chungus (High Genghis) since it was released in SoFu, ALONG WITH THUNDER DRAGONS AND GOD FORBID LEVI (pre-BaCh support you couldn't play pure because of Levi and D-Link despite the deck having an incredible VW matchup)
Then we waited for Gilgamesh for almost 2 years, which came along with Halq and Verte.
Moral of the story: When Delayed D/D support is coming, it always brings tier 0.5 broken stuff with it

    • @chucklesdeclown8819
      @chucklesdeclown8819 Рік тому +2

thats pretty fair, luckily we get random tops once in a while because its still a tour de force(guardna top 16 is the most recent example), i still question the most random support that gets released for it though(pardon while i write this up)
i mean i laugh because it has the wonkiest anti pendulum cards.
a kind of bubble man like card(not the same but has a similar draw 2 if condition is met in pandora).
stone king darius which for some reason is earth and it is surprisingly lackluster for a D/D/D extra deck card even if were talking d'ark which is pretty much only used for its level.
the proud brothers being odd pendulum recycle cards and some others being similar.
D/D recruits, reroll, and human resources being odd recycle cards that are all traps for some reason that just dont work cause D/D/D's don't really stall out enough to do them. pendragon for some reason needing a dragon to summon despite none of the cards being such.
nighthowl being the worst tuner to exist in the deck and goes unused.
apocalypse and requiem always being in this odd position of extender(at least ive always felt personally weird about those 2 monsters)
Armageddon being this weird battle monster
dark contracts that are also pendulum recycle and oddball effects depending on the extra deck monster you summoned.
contract change being an in archetype battle trap
forbidden dark contract with the swamp king which give you barely any benefit over the normal ones with worse costs.
along with surprisingly half decent in deck cards D/D/D basically never play even if they are surprisingly good and searchable because their combo variant D/D/D's are better(D/D dog, supreme king kizer(i mean the literal first variant of D/D/D's i built was kind of kizer turbo OTK, i should know. why hes not a pendulum monster is my thing with kizer), i think the new D/D/D/D card will be one considering reji is already great and played in the deck now, and if i recall there is 1 or 2 more but i could be trippin)
D/D/D's if you aren't looking at their mainline cards and even their slightly sidelined ones is such an oddball archetype of dark fiends.

I'm probably biased but I personally think that Dragon link is partly to blame as for why Dragonmaid flew under everyone's attention here in the TCG. To be specific a trend that I've noted is that every time a new dragon card or Dragon support card comes out, the discussions rounded it are focused primarily on how well it fits into combo decks specifically Dragon link.
I've seen more than a few people dismiss Dragonmaids specifically because they were seen as suboptimal for Dragon link. For so many people live in flat-out never occurred to them that a dragon card could be used in something other than combo

Speaking of Shining Dragon!! Not Only that. But, at least in Germany, Shining Dragon couldnt even be played THAN, because the original name in the effect of Shining Dragon was "Blauäugiger Ultra Drache" (litteral transl. "Blue-Eyes Ultra Dragon") which is the german dub version of the "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon". So because it was printed with the dubs "original" name, it was UNPLAYABLE UNTIL IT GOT A REMAKE IN 2009!!!!!!

BEUD and Meteor Black Dragon would've probably seen niche play, even if only playground, if they released around the same time as their materials, like in OCG land, just for being Blue-Eyes and Red-Eyes cards. I remember making decks around them in the video games. Unfortunately BEUD released in 2008, a whole 8 years after it released in the OCG (excluding the prize card), in the middle of the Synchro era. Meteor Black Dragon in 2012, 12 years after the OCG release (excluding the prize card), during the Xyz era. There's no way a big bungus fusion would have any relevance at those times! Yet both of these cards were in all the video games we got.

I played heraldic beasts before and after they got the card because when it was released in the ocg people toted it as potentially being a tier 2 staple for years to come....then uh....we didn't get it for 2 entire years and powercreep had accelerated more than players had expected it to.
To this day I think the deck is 3-4 cards away from actual tier 2 viability. They play nicely with dogmatika and their only real downside is that they don't have the best main deck monsters in the world (basically amphisbaena and leo are the only good ones outside maybe unicorn).
They have a one card xyz spell, a decent field spell, an easily abusable boss monster, easy access to UDF, and they aren't hit too much by bystials.
If they had a few more better main deck monsters, one or two more good spells, and another playable psychic XYZ boss monster other than patriarch they'd be incredibly viable IMO.

What killed Megaliths was the trends that the subsequent meta took. Dragon Link became widely agreed to be the best deck around, and if that wasn't enough, the best hand trap at the time that people were maining to keep early Dragon Link decks in check prior to their optimization was: Droll & Lock Bird.
Yeah, Megaliths couldn't come back from that one. Shame too, because they were similar in power level to Adamancipators if they were given enough time to optimize.
