Something that annoys me, that I luckily don’t encounter often, are the people that play “meta” or high powered decks such as swordsoul, branded or kashtira and then get mad when they lose to a mid-tier rogue deck because the person playing it knows what they are doing. They try blaming it on a bricky hand or a misplay, no mate I was there you played the combo correctly and had the standard opening hand for your deck, don’t get frustrated just say GG and move on.

Had a guy at locals during Nekroz Tier 0 format that dumped cash on good cards and learned the combos, but had no idea how to actually play the deck. Everyone was like, "Dude, she's playing a Lightsworn engine with Ehren as a Djinn out and runs main deck boss monsters, you can't just sit on Clausolas or Unicore." Or the kid that was playing Qli and didn't know the exact wording of Lose 1 Turn and that it's a mandatory activation to put a special summoned monster into defense (I summoned Onuncu twice to banish Lose 1 Turn and blow up his Towers).
My pet peeve is players who don't learn *exactly* what their cards do. It's not so bad if you don't know how a card from an archetype you don't play works, it's a whole other thing if you're not intimately familiar with every card in your deck.

Yeah, the real issue is that nearly every spell/trap in Yugioh can be activated before your opponent's first battle phase and don't really hinder your development at all (beyond the fact that it's a card that could've been some other card), while in Magic these cards actually cost mana, generally taking up your entire turn to deploy in the early game, or even putting you down cards if you're trying to cheat them out ahead of curve. This mean it will generally take 3+ turns after that to actually finish the game, even with strong followup threats, so the other player has time to dig out of it. Stun in Yugioh is more easily set up and established compared to stun in other games due to a lack of resources like mana, energy, lands, etc to give a timer before they become active. This timer also gives opponents the chance to gather resources for a response whether removal or counter. A lot of stun in MtG is more of a taxing effect where you can still play the card, just at the cost of extra mana or life. Dragon Ball Super's card game has one turn floodgates that fill a similar role to MtG's stun cards, where the opponent pays a cost to advance for the rest of the turn. DBS has a couple cards that also effectively shut down attacking altogether, but they typically come at a great cost in hand advantage.

I'm fine with Pendulums as they are now, but they were absolutely a jump-the-shark moment for Yu-Gi-Oh. Fusions were "use spell card or effect to turn 2+ monsters into big monster." Synchros were "use Tuner and 1+ non-tuner, add levels to the Synchro's level." Xyz was "put cards of same level on top of each other then the Xyz on that, the original cards may be detached for effects."
For Pendulums, you need to remember:
-There's 2 effects, one as a monster, one as a spell.
-Playing as a spell is restricted to specific zones.
-While played as a spell, it is treated as a spell, but not treated as a Normal, Field, Continuous, Ritual, or Quick-Play Spell. You can’t play another Pendulum monster in the Pendulum zone a Pendulum monster is already occupying (like Continuous, unlike Field).
-Putting Pendulums in the pendulum zones means once per turn you can Pendulum Summon monsters from your hand between the scale number on each Pendulum on the field (non-inclusive).
-There has never been a Pendulum monster with 2 different scales printed but the possibility still exists and it may matter what zone it's in but right now it doesn't.
-A Pendulum monster on the field that would go to the GY goes face-up in the extra deck instead, which means you can't use them as cost if the cost requires sending to the GY.
-When you Pendulum Summon, you can summon Pendulum monsters from the face-up extra deck to the extra monster zone or a monster zone a Link monster is pointing to. When doing this, if you would summon an Xyz Pendulum, you use the material requirements for the Xyz summon as its "level".
-Fusion Pendulums, Synchro Pendulums, and Xyz Pendulums face-up in the extra deck cannot be summoned using Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz summoning respectively, and can only be Pendulum Summoned if properly summoned previously.

3- limiting support. If pendulums had access to every gy tool every other deck had, they would be actually busted

There's also an assload of strange edge cases (some of which stopped being edge cases because of intentional design in the era).
When a pendulum in the pendulum zone is destroyed, why does the monster floating effect activate?
What happens if a pendulum card is destroyed while Macro Cosmos is on the field?
Why do pendulum cards go to the graveyard if they were XYZs material?
What properties of the monster does a pendulum card keep if its in the pendulum zone (level, type, attribute, name)?
Why are pendulums never treated as spells except exactly when they're in the pendulum zone?
Some of the answers make sense if you know other relatively obscure rulings (XYZs materials aren't "on the field", Trap and spell monsters return to just being traps or spells in the graveyard), but pendulums are just such a massive "exception to prior and future mechanics" in so many ways that they're just exceedingly difficult to explain to newer players, and even older players will get tripped up on some of the edge cases or the way the mechanics interact with individual cards.
The whole "there's only been a few good decks" argument also makes no sense to me, Pepe in some incarnation went in and out of play for about 2-3 years, Pend ftk (and the non-ftk version of the same thing) was in an out for about the same, and pendulum cards were splashed in a variety of different decks (Lunalights - orcust, predaplants - branded, etc), enough that not knowing the mechanics well could easily lead to a bad play or loss.

We were all making small talk before round one, etc. Round one was called, and I was paired against the new guy. Between the small talk and round one, at some point, this guy was half way in a bag of Cheeto puffs. Dusty. Ass. Puffs. He was trying to hold his cards, draw, and play with one hand while the other hand was perpetually in this bag. When that was too much, he would grab his own cards with his Cheetos hand and play them! He brazenly, ACTUALLY attempted to reach for my cards to read them with licked, wet, cheesy salad fingers. My subconscious kicked in. I panicked. I pulled the card away and said. “Uhh can you go wash your hands please?”. He looked at me like I had just asked him to put a hit out on his own mother! The latter are constantly telling stale memes outside of the original context that made them funny in the first place. Because the point of the joke is not just to simply have a laugh, but a funny note that identifies you as a member of the community to other members. The problem with floodgates in Yugioh vs MTG is that in magic, you have both various ways of dealing with floodgates, AND can afford to wait until you get those answers.
If a floodgate in yugioh stops you from playing for 1 turn, you probably already lost.
Yugioh doesn't have the same answers for floodgates that mtg has.
For example, if torpor orb (negate monster effects that enter the battlefield) was running rampant in a meta, since it's an artifact, there are various cards that destroy artifacts while also progressing your own boardstate. Or, the removal is diverse, where if you don't run into a torpor orb, that same card you would use to remove the torpor orb can be used to remove a creature or enchantment in other match ups.
This does not exist in yugioh at a playable competitive level. There isn't a card that reads "Choose one- you can MST, Or you gain an additional normal summon this turn, or you can have all your monsters gain 500 ATK until end of turn." Whereas there are tons of magic cards that do stuff like this. We have TTT for problematic monsters or handtraps, but it can't deal with TCBOO.

One of the cool things about the halq ban (at least in md) and the release of linkage is that the deck is actually a lot less reliant on ACT to end games. The empty board linkage otk is obviously a fun highroll, but on turn 4-6 where your opponent has run low on resources and taken a few hits from Hayate, you can easily get Roze on the grave and attack-linkage Kagari targeting linkage-linkage shizuku/kaina/etc and just beat them down for the same or better damage that ACT could have done, on the same turn it would come down. The halq ban also makes the ACT like a lot less reliable, since you can't control what's in your opponent's GY. So it's more just a great option to go into sometimes, when your opponent has left themselves open to it. Otherwise you just keep throwing girls at them until they fall over.

I think the animosity towards stun comes from the variaty of decks you can run into. If you're going into a game playing a rouge or pet deck it's a bit of a gut punch to be completely shut down because your opponent normal summoned a single monster or set a single peice of back row. It's a similar thing for hand traps and related staples as well. Dispite essentially being powercrept themselves, if you're playing in an environment with lots of casual decks and older archetypes, cards like ash and imperm go from being speed bumps to sacky instant win cards. With the added implication that now everyone there is going to have to start running them dispte often drastically lowering the consistency of decks not built around one card starters and endless recursion.

Related to the stun deck issue, my particular pet peeve is floodgates like Mystic Mine or Dimensional Prison that:
    1. Don't require any combo to get out, you just topdeck and set/activate/summon them.
    2. Have no cost or downside, or their downside doesn't apply to you (e.g. Skill Drain in Eldlich decks, Dimensional Prison when you use different Extra Deck monster types)
    3. Are only vulnerable to very specific forms of removal (e.g. Mystic Mine can only be outed by non-monster backrow removal)
    4. Basically prevent the opponent from playing Yugioh entirely
Ironically, they're not nearly as frustrating in stun decks as they are when sided into OTK-capable decks. Nothing sucks like when I lose the dice roll, my opponent draws Non-Fusion Area in the opening hand (and I'm playing Branded), he flips it on me in my Standby Phase, and if I don't have an out in my hand RIGHT NOW (when I can't use Guardian Chimera or Branded Fusion + Shaddoll Dragon), I instantly lose the duel next turn.

6:30 Actually... there are a vast number of cards that disable or remove effects from other cards, in addition to the already well known counterspells that stop cards being played.
For creatures, there's things like Dress Down, Humility, Torpor Orb, Hushbringer, Meekstone, Crackdown; artifacts have Null Rod, Stony Silence, Collector Ouphe; lands have Blood Moon, Blood Sun, Alpine Moon, Damping Sphere.
There's also a myriad of cards that stop your opponents doing things on your turn, like Grand Abolisher, City of Solitude, Defense Grid; or cards that slow play by increasing mana cost like Trinisphere or Aura of Silence; or cards that prevent cheating things out like Containment Priest, Sanctum Prelate, Drannith Magistrate.
It's just that _control_ is an archetype that's purposefully woven into the game since the very start. _Generally_ White gets to be protect-y and "go wide" large numbers of little guys, Blue gets to be controll-y by stopping things before they hit the field, Black gets to be combo-y by getting you anything you need and controll-y by killing things already on the field, Red gets to be fast aggro, and Green gets to be "go tall" small numbers of big fat beaters. (none are hard rules, everything's bled a little over time into others)

But stun and control are completely different things?
Control is about interaction, by nature, as you try to get control over the board state and keep it by stopping your opponents at key points. Having a consistent resource engine with access to interruption on the opponent’s turn is key in a modern control deck.
Stun does not interact with the opponent. You place the cards on the field that say “you cannot” or judgments to protect them, and then hope your opponent can’t do anything.
If they can? You lose, as you have very little, if any ways of reclaiming the board state, incurring advantage, or creating resources. Your goal isn’t to stop the opponent at key moments, and eventually out-resource them/get yourself into a position where you can cripple/ beat them outright. You skip all of that, summon boarder, flip TCBOO, flip Macro. You don’t need to know their lines to activate skill drain. Control is awesome, I love games against control, even when I get washed. Stun is boring because either the Stun player wins turn 1 or they lose. They barely involve the opponent, less so than combo, because you can’t ash NS dyna equip moon mirror set judgment, or veiler, or whathave you. But if you can interact, unlike combo, where knowing where to hit is important, or making the assumption, none of that is a particularly vital location to hit, as to stop a combo or to weaken it, no. It’s just “if you can interact with me, I lose instantly. I hope you can’t”
Stun and Control are not the same.
