You are getting some wonderful results! You have an indoor fig forest. That's a full-time job. When you decide to close up your pots to retain more moisture, I think your idea of keeping the center of the bag open is a good idea, not just for ease of access when watering, but also to reduce the chance of mold developing. So at some point you are going to move all your pots from both grow rooms outside? You might want to have a friend help you. That's going to be quite a job. I have everything in 15 gal pots, and I keep my rows about 24 inches apart so I can walk through them more easily. I also use a moving dolly if I have to move the pots. Keep us posted. Thanks

Yes, good thinking, I will keep a small opening for easier watering and some ventilation. My trees are usually moved outside in May with my brother help, but this year took me two days by myself. This is the reason that I grow figs in 7 gal mostly. I do have small dolly in the basement and a garden cart outside.

I predict there will be lots of fig tasting coming soon. Can't wait to see it. Great job!

I was wondering if you could help me out. I live up in Traverse City. I started my pants in a grow tent in the beginning of February. All is going good except for a good amount of leaves on my VDB are deformed. They almost look like they've been ripped. Do you know what could be causing this?

Hi. If you look closely enough, some of my trees have deformed leaves. I would assume that yours also have FMV, Fig Mosaic Virus. You can find more info about this virus on Ourfigs forum posts, but in short, it is a virus that affects and is present in many fig trees, and some varieties are more prone to have it. If you give your tree good growing conditions ( proper watering, fertilizing, sun ), there is a chance that the FMV will be less noticeable later this year.
Another possibility, VDB is one of, if not the variety with most contrasty shaped leaves. My VDB in first year had all single lobed leaves (spade), and in second mostly five, very elongated lobe leaves (fingered). Reading your post again, I now believe that this is probably your case.

@@backyardfigs Thanks for the info. I will look into FMV.

My question is if you bring them outdoors for the Spring and summer how do you harden that many trees at 1 time. Bringing them in-and-out would be a massive job. Or is that where they stay.

Yes, they will end up in my orchard, but first two-three weeks in the shaded area. Usually in May, but if weather allows even earlier.
