  • Another season of Transitioning fig trees, from growing under full spectrum lights to outside conditions and sun exposure. It is a process that takes time to gradually expose and adjust trees to a very different environment. During this time trees have to be properly fertilized and watered for reduced stress.

    Great setup.
But for few fig trees, I use insect netting. One per tree. It provides sunlight filtering and protect the figs from birds.

Wonderful planning. Tradition of fig trees from indoor to outdoor needs quite a lot of care. BTW, how big is your typical pot size? How often is root-pruning needed? Thanks!

Thanks. Most of the trees are in 7gal. grow bags, and some in 10 gal. They were up potted 1 1/2 years ago. Being in grow bags, I am expecting them to stay longer before root pruning. Time will tell, I will check their root system after 3 years.

Hello Zarko! I'm a new subscriber. Thank you for great content. I've watched all your training videos and I have a question. I just started growing fig trees and they are small only 6 to 8 inches tall. Some of them have many small trunks. Can I remove them and just have a main trunk or do I need to let them grow for an entire season first?

Hi, welcome and thank you for subscribing. If you like, send me a pic of your trees, and I will more precisely answer based on photo. But, in general, such a small trees would benefit from removing all but the one, tallest shoot, and let it grow the entire season. Sometimes this situation can vary, depending on a vigor, health or variety. zarko@backyardfigs.com

@@backyardfigs Thank You!, I will let them recover from transplant and I will give it a try. I also took some cuttings from a tree from my sisters new house in Florida. We don't know what variety it is, I will send you a picture of the mother tree and my cutting once it grows. The story is it has been growing for over 30 years, maybe you can help identify it. If it is a good variety and you don't have it I can send you a cutting.

Not sure. Now, you got me thinking. I don't have experience growing this plant, but, If someone wants to grow it in cold climate I assume that would be possible. Starting under lights, and finishing outdoor.
