The boxcars and hoppers are to help with braking. 4014 can use their air brakes to help slow it down instead of burning up it's own brakes since a diesel isn't needed anymore in the consist.
Be polite when you pace. If you're not driving the speed limit, pull over so others can pass. Sometimes the cops will ticket you for holding up traffic.
