The treatment of the water glass very early on is an indicator that Christopher is boss. A natural wit to be sure.
The funniest thing is that Chris Guest parodied this interview in "For Your Consideration" -- same set, table with black background, and an interviewer that asked such long questions that the interviewee could never respond.
Best in Show. Top 10 comedy movies of all time. Christopher Guest is my comedy hero.
It's my least favorite of Spinal Tap, Guffman, Best... and Mighty Wind. And it is still incredible. Guest is probably my comedy hero as well.
Love his facial expressions. When he's trying to take a sip of water at 0:58 but is waiting for Rose to finish his sentence. By 1:05 it's like he's thinking "Suuree am thirsty..." 😄
lol,,,..a good improv by Guest. Maybe a bit too on the nose, but regardless...I noticed it, too!
This entire interview is a Christopher Guest scene in it self... He's talking advantage of the already pretentious nature of the "artist interview" and playing off the delusional ego of the interviewer. He's fucking brilliant at everything.
That's absurd. He's being completely sincere.
@@nyshoefly Its pretty clear Guest holds Rose in contempt. CR was the worst, most pretentious & annoying interviewer in recent history. Among other things...
@@RileyRampant not clear at all. I think you are misreading based on who you think C. Guest is. CR was one of the best interviewers minus his propensity to interrupt. Otherwise he was always well versed on his guests and their work. I watched him for 10 years plus (before he decided to let the dragon loose) and thoroughly enjoyed his show, as did millions of others around the globe.
@@RileyRampant also forgot to mention that if you watch other Guest interviews, you'll see that he acts this way in every single interview. It has nothing to do with CR.
@@nyshoefly Rose was an idiot, a dim-witted pompous endlessly nattering nabob. You didn't pick up on that. Which is totally cool, many didn't - You must have been flabbergasted when it came out that he'd been creeping on young women for decades. :) I've seen many CG interviews, btw. He was obviously bugged by this guy - this is my assessment, which you seem to be taking great pains to quibble with me concerning. You are entitled to your assessment, and so am I to mine. CG was mocking him with the glass of water - that was a great bit. :) You can now tell me how wrong or ignorant I am again, have the last word, be my guest.
This interview conducted by Christopher Guest is remarkable. I swear he gets in half the words that Charlie Rose does.
I agree. Shut up, Charlie, and let your guest talk once in a while.
My second watch of this and Charlie Rose is such a tool. There's a point where CG gives an audible sigh when Rose keeps prattling on and not letting him answer. Priceless.
Oh, I don't know. I think both did what they came to do, and to good effect.
He may sound American but he is English and so is his humour and ripostes - very much so . The first few minutes , the hapless interviewer had absolutely no idea .It went straight over the top of his head !
What? He was born in the United States. So what do you mean?
I had only ever seen Christopher Guest as Count Rugen in The Princess Bride. No idea he had such an impressive film and music resume. He seems very effortlessly cool.
He played a very small role in A Few Good Men, too.
His fingers go to 11.
Such an amazing talent.
Jeez if only Charlie would shut up for five minutes you might actually have an interview here.
God, what an awful interview by Charlie Rose. He told you like 20 times, he doesn’t do jokes!!! Charlie talked over Guest constantly. Honestly, Jiminy Glick could have done a better job.
He did that with everyone, and it can be annoying. But he's better than most. Meanwhile, Chris Guest doesn't care about being liked.
Shout out to Glick
Watching the first 2.5 minutes with no sound tells the whole story.
I think the problem is that most of what he says he 'looks for' at 11:36 is stuff that the interviewer largely doesn't have. Christopher Guest is brilliant! Sadly the interviewer is not.
“Someone who can listen”
What Coltrane was to jazz saxophone, Fred Willard was to improv comedy. Two heavyweight champions of improvisation.
What an awkward interview - but as we learned later on, Charlie Rose really liked the ladies. 😀
His whole effing persona is so effing funny
fucking funny, too.
Not sure why people think this was a bad interview. Rose has a conversational style of interviewing but he did make the same mistake other interviewers have made about Guest - that he’s up for laughs and cutting up. Guest appears to enjoy trapping interviewers by being morose and drab; a bit of a gotcha game of “don’t act like you what I’m all about or I’ll try to embarrass you.”
How long after this did Charlie Rose get fired for sexually harassing employees? He was also an annoyingly pretentious interviewer, to the point that he should be one of Guest’s characters.
In what world is Christopher Guest a "regular guy"?
Charlie's problem is he CAN'T think off the top of his head...like most comedians are able to.
The other problem is he tries to.
What a stupid comment. Spinal Tap is full of improvised instantly created dialogue.
What the man isn't is a stand up joke teller
@@stevec2993 no no read my comment again. "Charlie's problem", NOT Christopher's problem....you read it wrong
Charlie was distracted by all the staffers he was sexually abusing. He was subsequently fired and destroyed his entire career. Unreal.
and he talks too much
Brilliant.
Christopher is a HARD interview. He's surprised & slightly offended by everything.
Probably surprised that Charlie Rose is such a horrible interviewer.....
no he's not the least bit a horrible. apparently you don't know a good interviewer. you shouldn't comment on something you no nothing about
well he knows a silly question when he hears one.
How many terrible interviewers do you have in the USA? They seem to have no idea.
I do think he's very defensive. Every interview I've seen he has been offended by something, which surprised me.
Could've sworn I heard him with an English accent in an interview, but man this guy's a chameleon.
Spinal Tap's 100% improvised? Fuckin hell......
A mockumentary is just a fake documentary, which is what Spinal Tap was. I don't see the problem in calling it that.
He's connected... Who gets to meet Peter sellers
Christopher Guest , the perfect MK Ultra interview. The secrets are in the silence.
Christopher Guest, Fred Willard GOAT
23:57 oof that got awkward
The precise moment Christopher is thinking, “what a fucking idiot”. 😂
@@yorocco1 or even „ that idiot doesn‘t stop trying to be funny“…
Funniest thing I've seen in a while.
Jesus what an embarrassment. Charlie is trying so hard to play off Christopher, and failing so badly. Even if he had it (which he clearly doesn't), there's a time and a place for it.
Charlie Rose was just awful. Unprepared. Listless. Uninformed. Lost. Just awful.
Genius
Sheer genius.
Was Charlie a little drunk for this one?
A bit disingenuous to say they're not mocking their subject matter. It's at the very least satire.
❤️
Foul rose
Why wasn't sherer in best in show
Hate to say it but his demeanor reminds me of Ted Bundy.
I miss Carlie Rose. If he could have just kept his robe closed.
you hooked up with a alchi that wrote you.
This is the worst interviewer I've ever witnessed..... ?!?
not by a long shot.
Nice wig.
Guest is so unpleasant
why do you say that?
God, I would never want to meet him.
Same. 😒
Hmm, if I did, I might be tempted to stare until he said “What?”, and then wryly observe that he has six fingers on his right hand.
