  • Many of you were curious about the way I document all the fountain pens and inky things. In this video, I'm sharing all the notebooks, journals, and cards I'm using and why I'm using them. Of course, none of this is necessary for you or anyone to enjoy and use a fountain pen. I fully admit that this is an area that I'm currently hyper-focusing on, but it brings me a lot of joy and amazing learning experiences.

    Seeing your Agatha Christie book reminded me to thank you so much for your Amazon favorites recommendation of The House by the Cerulean Sea. I loved it so much that I'm sure I will reread it in the future. I have only reread two other books: The Color Purple and Prince of Tides. Thank you!

      Thank you so much for sharing! I'm so glad you found a favorite book. I loved it too. If you're interested in another (maybe two) book that I loved: A Lesson in Chemistry. This was a romance (?) but the underlying criticism and reflections of society was what drew me in and made it a favorite. And then I'm currently listening to Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Might be my second favorite for this year.

      @seemownay Have you read Anne Perry's William Monk series? They are set in Victorian England. Besides being interesting mysteries in their own right, they are rich in social commentary. The series starts with The Face of a Stranger.

    Love your idea for the fountain pen journal you talked about at the end. You should totally collaborate with a notebook company and make a notebook with all those basic notes printed on each spread--- kind of like the ink swap notebooks! That would be so cool.

      That's a cool idea! I should start that pen journal project once I've moved. I gave up on arting as well so I should have more time too. And it kinda feels like art too.

    I love all your notebooks, so well organized and neat ! ❤ I have my pens and inks listed in various places as well. A Hobonichi Weeks like you for logging new pens/inks and when I change out an ink in a pen, a collections ring binder for my pens and another one for my inks. The one for the pens is sorted by brands so this way I can easily add another pen by adding a sheet of paper at exactly the spot I want it to go. The ink collections binder is sorted by color. Then I have another binder where I log the pens with the current ink and that one is also sorted by color which makes it easy for me to see what pens are inked with similar inks - because unlike you I don‘t use a rainbow palette for one month but inks that are of the same color for one week. :) Then I have a personal sized insert with 52 gsm TRP that is tucked into my Weeks cover and just lists all my pens and inks for „on the go“… this way I don‘t have to carry my ring binders around with me. I just love listing all the things and don‘t mind if I have to do it over and over again… ;) And did I mention that I also have an Excel file ? :D

      @seemownay  Рік тому +1

      I'll share a closer look at the pen and ink notebook next week, I think and I totally cut the pen notebook up and put it into rings, because I wanted to have them sorted by brands and also be able to take out the pens I have sold. I don't have an excel file but I do log in fountain pen companion. LOL.

    I would like to see more of your ink flight journal of the ink comparisons. You showed a small clip and i was like oh snap now i want see it all! It would be interesting to see a fountain pen journal about the fountain pens themselves (the idea for a journal you showed at the end). I know alot of people get into the hobby specifically for the pens. So that could be something alot of people may be interested in seeing and learning how your journey began with a specific pen. I know i would be. Seeing your ink explorion journal a few months ago i did something similar but then recently seen a lady’s video from like 4 years ago who went to a disc bound system and have since restarted making mine with tomoa river loose leaf paper i already had and hole punched to go into my happy planner set up stuff i already had and am loving it bc i can take out and move pages. Only started it a week ago but already love it even tho my paper is a5 and my happy planner stuff is classic size 9x7ish my preferred size but i am still loving it even with the smaller a5 paper in it

    • @seemownay
      @seemownay  Рік тому

      I'll put that on my list for videos to film next, as I'm moving soon, it's going to be closer to the middle of July, but it's coming.
      I agree! I think for reference purposes and convenience an ink journal in rings would be amazing. I decided to just continue with whatever notebook I have at hand and not even lock myself into a specific size. I might at one point write out an "index" but so far I remember.

    I love how you test and actually use all those beautiful inks! I write with fountain pens every day for decades now and I buy nice coloured ink samples or bottles sometimes, but 99 percent of the time I use water resistant black or brown ink, so I really admire you! Thank you!

    I find your whole system very intriguing! I keep changing mine. I have the same problem of buying nearly the same ink over and over. They look different in the large swatch, but not so much in the writing!

    • @seemownay
      @seemownay  Рік тому

      Thanks! I switch things up when they don't work any longer. But so far, it seems to work well. Maybe I'm putting too much thought into these things ... yes, so true about the large swatch and the writing. If that happens then I'm trying to choose the wettest and most unproblematic ink of the bunch. And of course, cheapest.

    It looks like you have started using the Wearingeul Swatch Book now; I saw the inserted section. It looks great and is exactly what I want to do. I ordered a book for myself shortly after you received yours but I haven't started it yet. I'm trying to decide how to set it up, colorwise...as in a rainbow or just with which colors I like best or what. Problem is allowing enough pages to handle the colors when I add more. I think it would bother me if I ran out of space for a color and then it would be out of order. I need to just jump in and do it or the book will sit unused.

    • @seemownay
      @seemownay  Рік тому +1

      I had the same problem. I decided to just go ahead and start. I used paper clips to group together like colors in my swatch card box. It's never going to be perfect, so that's how I'm doing it right now. I actually like when there is a totally different color on the next page.
      For colors where I have more than the nine swatches on the page, I'll move to the next page. And if at a later date it will spill over, I'll start on the next free page.
      Since the paper is so thick you could also apply the "ring planner trick" of clipping the paper at the holes and then carefully reorganizing the whole book when you are done. Maybe that option will work for you.

      I'm glad we can all do as we like. Yeah, these hyper fixations happen to me quite frequently. I'm very happy where I am right now, it feels I'm learning a lot. And yes, it is fun for me. And if it's no longer fun, then I hope I notice and switch things up or stop.
