  • “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:2‬ ‭
If the Lord is with us, why do we suffer? This verse reminds us that the presence of God does not imply an absence of afflictions. When the waters rise, we are quick to say that God does not care, that He is definitely not there.
But the Lord promises “I will be with you” and He has, is, and will. It doesn’t mean that you no longer have to pass through any water, that you are free from the stress of the flood sweeping over you. It means that you will have to walk through fires, and experience the suffocating heat of your trying circumstance challenging the very core of your principles and beliefs. It means that you may lose everything you counted valuable but in the eyes of the Lord, you are being purified, removed of the dross so He may produce His vessel.
You know He is with you not because you feel no distress but because the fire does not separate you from His love, and thoroughly shatter your faith. You know He is with you because you are angry at Him, fighting and blaming the hand that shelters you from destruction-all the while breathing through waters and fires because of His deliverance. You know He is with you because when you turn around at the end of your trials, you recognize that you could not have made it on your own, that the footprints, larger than yours, have been carrying you all the days of your life.
Dear reader, I pray that we may recognize His presence when He gives and stop questioning His presence when He takes away. Lord, we know because of you we have not been consumed. Help us see you clearly in the waters and fires so we do not walk through life missing your presence in our breaths.

Very beautifully written. I think if this was written on black paper with white ink and dull gold flourishing would be quite nice. Really love your work.
