Nice video thanks. It brings back memories of my European tour in 1983 on my Honda 400n Superdream. Lake Constance, Venice, St Gottard Tunnel, Interlaken. Great memories...
Thank you. Yes, you hit the nail on the head. I always try to ride at no more than 90% of my skill level because you never know what is around the next corner, you may need that last 10%. Ride safe, Scott
great ride Mate! love it. I rode the Dolomites a few years ago on my tour of Italy (Multistrada) This reminds me of that. You should come to the Pacific Northwest sometime and ride the North Cascades. Also beautiful!
Yea, the GS guys around here (Germany) know how to ride and ride fast. No beginners or novice riders on big GS's in Germany. They ride it like a super naked bike, yes, at those speeds, I know cause I've ridden my KTM1290SDR with a lot of GS guys and I really have to pay attention when they ride fast...sure the SDR is faster but they can really make it very hard for me to pass them (when were playing around havin' some fun...when it's safe...of course 😜).
@@NothingToProve Totally agree. I rode around Italy and thru the Dolomites a few years ago. GS's are everywhere there. I ride track and am a pretty accomplished rider, but the track does not translate to the street. I've done a lot of touring, and definitely thinking I might go GS or GSA for my next touring rig. I live in Seattle and want to do Alaska next, so I think the GS is the way to go!
Nice going Scott, liked the speed up frames at the end taking us further...but the biggest highlight was Uli ˋs ˋja ´😅. Love these videos as a winter consolation, as i repose on my couch...Grüß aus Berlin ( Flatlands)....
Incredible scenery Scott! Great camera work & effort putting this together! Much appreciated! Hope you had fun doing both riding & editing your adventures! What was your favourite road & area/country? Please do an update on how your great bike performed including panniers & other accessories🙏 & what you bought with you. Perhaps a lesson in packing & where to place things?👌 Great work once again as always 💯🥇👍🏍
Having lived 4 years in Berlin, I can tell you one thing: Uli is the Ambassador of the German personality :) Quite, calm, serious and precise on his answers hahah
Stunning locations. Those twisties look so fun to ride on. I have only driven on some twisties once since i started riding in June, it was in the Eifel area (from my family in Düren to Simmerath and back) and i want to go there again as soon as the weather is better again :D I just had my bike for not very long so the twisties were scary for me on a low cruiser and being a new rider, so i drove slow and so carefully :p Now i would be more self assured in driving there. But the Alps are even more beautifull than the Eifel area ö If i would be able to do a long touring roadtrip, i sure would want to follow the route you took in these vids :)
Thank you! Yes, I've been to the Eifel on a BMW 1250RS when I did the 1000km review of that bike and the Eifel is nice but it does not hold a candle to the Alps. :)
What a wonderful trip. I cross the Alps by bike, but this video is an invitation to test the motorbike. How do you plan your routing, by Calimoto? I thought that wouldn't be possible te link with the BMW TFT system/ app. Only for recording what you've ridden. Or is it possible te create a route with Calimoto and than importing into the BMW system?
Thank you. Yea, if you create a route in any app, it's a .gpx file and then you can import to any other app. So yes, you can move from Calimoto to the BMW app and vice versa. Even in google maps, routes created there you just have to convert it to .gpx and then you can use it in any app. For this video series I didn't even use the Calimoto .gpx files because the BMW App worked just fine. Calimoto is the back-up :)
How come you changed your wind screen, your cell phone Charger and your panniers for this trip? Great footage.... Im watching from Victoria BC Canada. I just got the 900xr. Cheers!!
Sir, I've been watching your videos for a long time now. Great content with this Alps' ride, other F900XR reviews and I noticed you haven’t asked to "Like share and subscribe". That's one heck of a trait among high quality UA-camrs. - Love from Hyderabad, India !
A switchback (Serpentine) is only used in mountains/hilly areas when changing about 180° in direction. A hairpin turn is a tight/small/difficult turn that can be anywhere, regardless of terrain or degree of turn. Ride safe, Scott
Hey Scott, I have a question: What would be your next bike? Or better: Suppose you don't have the F 900 XR, what would you buy in 2021? Amazing video by the way!
Hmm...good question. I have no idea because the 900XR is doing a great job at doing everything I need at the moment. Daily commutes, carrying stuff, long trips, day rides but no off--road capability is the only short coming but it's not an ADV, so I have not given any thought to getting another/different bike. Maybe a middle weight ADV bike that is similar to this in size/weight. Tiger 900 or Africa Twin 900 (when it comes out) or 790 ADV/700 Tenere. All are good possibilities. The 850GS is too heavy for a middleweight ADV and the 750GS is under powered imho, although both are very good bikes. V85TT/950Multi are too exotic & high maintenance for me.
Wow, what an amazing ride; I was chuckling along on the twisties! Would love to do this ride in the future, can't believe how narrow the roads are! Thanks for sharing! BTW: Did you find the tank bag gets in your way while leaning? Did you ride much at night at all?
Thank you! The tank bag does not bother me, that's why I got the smallest one that GIVI offers in their tank lock system. I really don't care for the big tank bags because they will get in the way.
Nice video thanks. It brings back memories of my European tour in 1983 on my Honda 400n Superdream. Lake Constance, Venice, St Gottard Tunnel, Interlaken. Great memories...
Wonderful. Thanks for showing us.
Love how you guys ride . With control and precision giving a reasonable margin to miscalculations .

beautifil scenery and fund roads!
What a beauty.. it seems like this trip will remain in your memories for a very long time

Yea, the Dolomites are on my "buck list" for when I move back home (U.S.).
Ohhh how I miss Europe, lovely twisties, thank you, cheers V!
Wow, amazing! A ride like that is on my bucket list.
Wow what a ride! Great job as always... cheers from Canada.
Your buddy on the GS showing how well they handle in the twists contrary to popular belief ;)

The tank bag Uli has on his bike look huge! I'm not sure I would like that much mass blocking my view of the gauges and restricting my movements.

This was awsome! I really like it when you can hear the wind noise and the engine.. :-)
the most fun I've ever had I had a good time just watching this
Thanks for taking us on the trip with you through some of the most beautiful country and excellent riding in the world!
Very nice ride 👌💪🙏👍😉

Uli: "ja ja"
Wow - epic doesn't begin to describe it. !!!
Very nice trip
great ride
Great scenery. Bet there were no chicken strips left after those roads. 😀👍
and none on my boots or foot pegs, now my boots are no longer waterproof 😢😢 but that just gives me a reason to buy new boots! 😁😊
Seems like what the F900XR was built for!
Boem👍 boem👍 NTP, I love it.

Really like your reviews, absolutely honest, probably because you've got nothing to prove!Seriously now is Billy Bob Thornton the narrator?
It was difficult to get him to do it but he's a biker so he agreed to do it for me... 😜😁🤣🤣

Actually it's the other way around, this trip was before I got all those things.

What gloves are you wearing?
Why didn’t you guys went with your side bags ?
My bags arrived about 3 weeks after the trip :( And Uli "does not need side bags". :)
@@NothingToProve Oh I see. Thanks for the answer Scott :-)
Wait, was that your first time in the Alps? Living in Germany, it must become an annual ritual to go to the Alps :-)
First time on a bike, yes. And yes, I would like to make this an annual trip!
Awsome....not just because i have a 900xr😁
Good stuff!!!!!
Ok, probably a silly question... What is the difference between a switchback and a hairpin?

Not my first time in the Alps but yes, the first time on a motorcycle in the Alps. We'll do it again next summer...Corona permitting...
