the can opener file off thing.....I could literally fly to your location and treat you to a 5,000 dollar shopping spree im so happy to find something that works
Convenience store? eBay and smoke shop only. This is my favorite diversion safe. I also like the plug ins one and thin shelf you slide forward and appears a thin space to hide anything from anyone. Especially weapons away from children.
Yeah I took a tiny file and removed a little of the top so you can pop it off and put it back. I use it to stash money and stuff in the back of a 12 pack of cokes.
Yeah, I got it at Walmart kitchen section...pretty much a generic "safety can opener"...they open cans from the side instead of the top. It was $8.99. They come in all brands, shapes, and sizes.
question, if u would leave the pop in the can intill after u opened the top up w the can opener can u bypass the whole plastic part under the lid?? video was alittle hard to hear but he did a good job explaining how to do this
no not from Canada..im having a issue w the plastic part.. thank u for answering back.. i looked at other ways to make this an so ppl are finding another can or container to put inside but im not having luck doing that way either.. this is harder then what it looks :)
I've got the same one and made the same modification for the same purpose prior to watching this video--I visited UA-cam to see if there was a better way to accomplish the lid removal. It's made by "good cook"; the name is lowercase.
@digdigdig Cuts can good, but only complaint it that, in the ID of the top of can, it makes teeth marks all the way around. Is there a way to avoid that?
It's gotta be a "safety can opener" and you have to file the plastic bump off that would ride that area...picture 4 on this ebay auction shows the bump that needs to go www.ebay.com/itm/352728137774
Hi Shawn, love the video. However i can’t seem to make my safe cut can Opener to work like yours. I removed the “nudge” as you mentioned but can’t make it to work. Hope you can help? Thanks! Peter
It will fall off. You can make it into a twist lock if you want to. Use a hot glue gun to glue 2 pieces of a nail (cut really short, glue one on the left and one on the right side of the can) Then make 2 f hooks out of cut soda can and glue those 2 f's to the can lid so they lock onto the 2 nails (1 f facing one way, then the other one facing the other)
As someone mentioned below, there are versions on youtube where people put a jar inside, and secure it in with plaster of paris(and they glue the jar lid to the inside of the can, which seems to me to be a weak bond if you are screwing and unscrewing it). I had trouble finding the right size jar to do that, and come up with this method. Maybe stuff newspaper or something around whetever is in the can?
Like I also mentioned below, you can partially crush the can to make it appear drank/garbage... as long as you don't damage the sloped part of the can to the lid.
yvw. The epoxy thing was really not working for me, it wouldn't bond to the lid properly. I just stared at a can for a few minutes and came up with this method haha
Im very fortunate because over time i have collected different monster cans and coca cola cans and they are up as decoration so i don't have to worry about my mom throwing it away.
I got it at Walmart, it just said "Safety Can Opener", no brand name or anything....I think it was 8 or 9 bucks. I did have to file the plastic bump on it to account for the slope of the can.
:( Just tried it and my can opener (which looks exactly like yours) gnarled up the inside ridge of the can. I hope it still works fine for opening cans after I filed off that extra part on the bottom. ;)
It's the safety one like you have. It cuts on the side of the lid and doesn't leave any sharp edges. But, when I ran it around a soda can (about 1.5 inches) the toothed part that grips the can to turn it was gnarling up the can so bad that it would be obvious that the can was tampered with. I'm going to try it again, maybe I was squeezing it to hard or something.
You can do it much easier: Skip the step with the nail to hold the plastic stripe, use some hotglue or better some superglue to hold it in place... but still a nice idea! greez
Shawn Boyle maybe hotglue isn´t holding it good but when you use some quality superglue you´re get some nice results. i´ve superglued a lot of things which never been broken, one example was a hook on a wardrobe some years ago and i was able to hang some big winterjackets + 2-3 pullovers at the same time on it, year after year, an its never been broken again - only hold by some drops of superglue...
All it needs is: a.) a piece of tape to keep the nail from clinking b.) a few heavy items (nuts, fishing weights, etc.) glued to inside to give it weight c.) small vacuum sealed pouches of water to give liquid sound if picked up d.) use the bottom of one can, then open another from the bottom so you have a more convincing top
Why bother with the plastic "lock" to stop the lid from falling off?. Just place the lid on it. If it gets picked up, the lack of weight will give the game away before the lid has a chance to fall off. Lol
@@DigDigDig I actually did that for one escape room and had a bunch of cans in the garbage (i didn't have time to make a hidden can like above) and it worked great, clue was in only one can of course and they had to figure it out by knowing the clue was vanilla coke, but they didn't know where the cans were till one brilliant one looked in the trash lol
I can see my mother finding this "empty" can with all my money and throwing it away

You can buy one of these for various prices at flee markets or convenience stores. They're weighted so it's more convincing.

What type of opener did you use to get a clean cut. Any links for that product ?
It was just labeled safety can opener, I got it at Walmart for like 8 bucks.
I've seen a version where the next step is fill it with plaster of paris to the same weight of a full soda. Then put it in the back of the fridge.
This one you can partially crush to mimic an empty can, though.
Shawn Boyle mind=blown because no one would look in the trash for a safe. Great camo for a dead drop as well.

I have the same can opener you used for this demo. What did you use to remove the plastic piece that blocks you from cutting the soda can lid?
If I remember correctly a file and possibly a knife as well.

Cuts can good, but only complaint it that, in the ID of the top of can, it makes teeth marks all the way around. Is there a way to avoid that?
Will any can opener work? Mine started crunching the can and making jagged edges.

Opener to work like yours. I removed the “nudge” as you mentioned but can’t make it to work. Hope you can help? Thanks! Peter
Did u get it working x
is it air tight so my stash wont smell?
+Julius Aragon If you put a rubber ring on the lid and glue the drinking hole, sure.
You're better off with a mason jar
Make sure to tape the outside so it does not break when you drop it
If you just cut off the top with the can opener and put it back in without putting the nails and stuff will it stay on if you tip it upside down
It will fall off. You can make it into a twist lock if you want to.
Use a hot glue gun to glue 2 pieces of a nail (cut really short, glue one on the left and one on the right side of the can)

it bends the cut edge of the can inwards so that the edge will be dull or rounded to the touch.

Weird. Mine works fine still after hundreds of uses. I got it at walmart for $8, it was no name "safety can opener".
Was it called a safety can opener? A regular can opener will thrash a soda can.
Mine will leave slight marks on the inside ridge where the wheel grabs, but they are hardly noticeable.
