lol we use to do that when we were kids in Brooklyn. we would open the fire hydrant, and take a can and scrape both ends on sidewalk to turn the can into a cylinder and use it on the fire hydrant to increase the distance on the water coming out.
That's pretty awesome. I appreciate you sharing the story. We used to do something similar to create a potato/tennis ball gun. Kids can be resourceful when it comes to having a good time.
Thanks for the tip. I used a belt sander. Took about 5 seconds
I took your idea and made a video. Not quite a belt sander, but similar: ua-cam.com/video/Bu0f8KdpiSk/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing this! I just did it on two massive novelty beer cans I wanted to use for storage pots. Worked really well, so easy and a great result that left the can in absolutely perfect condition
Thanks so much for your comment. I'm glad the cans turned out well and I hope you enjoy them. I did another video on the same topic but using an electric drill - same result but faster. The video is here if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/Bu0f8KdpiSk/v-deo.html
Thanks. I've always wanted to remove the top without squishing the entire can. I thought it would take some special contraption to get the top off cleanly, so this is a very neat trick. THANK YOU!
Thank you for the comment. I made a new video using an electric drill and sanding disk to accomplish the same result. Here is the link if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/Bu0f8KdpiSk/v-deo.html
lookup Draft Top LIFT Beer Can Opener - Soda Can Opener - Topless Can Opener - Can Cutter Top Remover - Handheld Safety Manual Can Opener, Smooth Edge Effortless Rip and Sip Opener, Pulls the Top Off
Thanks. I used to use a pair of metal snips (a big iron scissors for cutting metal) and/or a hacksaw blade to cut them. Have to be careful cutting the tops off.
wow. super simple! never would have thought of this. it is my sister’s birthday soon and i am making her candles in sparkling water cans. can’t wait to try this method. thanks!
I'm so glad it was helpful and thanks so much for sharing your comment! Good luck with the candles!!
you can also use safety can openers to do so. I got a cutter made for cans, cuts them from the outside in a couple seconds.
Thanks for the tip. I was looking for this since long.
This really helped thank you so much
This really helped!
Thank you! Brilliantly simple methods!
Dope! I’ve been tryna get the top off a Big Wave can for a minute
How does someone discover shit like this?lol
Cool DIY. Thanks.
Worked like a champ. If you want to keep the top, either punch through the top instead of bending the tab, then tape a thin piece of cardboard over the tab before you start sanding so the tab doesn’t get sanded/worn. Once the top is off, you can press the flap back into place and boom, the can looks like it was never opened.
Awesome!! It's one of the coolest hack. Thank you!!
Thank you, my friend. This helps
However, Alex Thayer is doing what I am thinking. I do not have a belt sander, so your method is my method; for now! Mercy Beaucoup!
Yep, 2 mins exactly, worked like a charm. Played havoc with my arthritic thumbs though 🥴
Nice bro really works thankz for this hack
Thank you!
Thank you
Well done
this seems like it’d work wonders for me! i collect cute cans when i find them, and i want to use them for storage, plants, etc, but i don’t have a can opener. but i Do have sandpaper and pliers lol !
Gotta start drinking beer. This sanding thing looks fun and satisfying😂😂😂
Perfect ❤ thanks 😊
Thanks for this .... I have a can of Elvis juice that I want to now use a candle ... defo gonna give this a try x
Tq very much bro!!!
Thank u !!!
Nice thank you work great
Awesome! Glad to know a technique that's not rough on my hands! Can this work for the bottom side as well or only the top?
it won't work on the bottom, unfortunately. the reason this works on the top is because at the factory, the top is actually a separate lid that's placed on top of the can, then the edges are folded over and crimped to seal it.
Wow, just Wow!
Make sure you use the pliers or something to remove the lid after sanding, nearly lopped my finger off thinking "oh its gonna pop straight out really easily... no need to find them..." then it kinda sprang out as the pressure shifted and sliced the old pointer digit pretty severely! Excellent tutorial otherwise, well done!
Side Q what would you edge the top and optionally bottom with? I was thinking car door edging trim? It's a Viking (Faxe) 1ltr beer can.
Best way to go about it if you want a safe & cheap option.
Hey friend can I reseal my can with a new lid for later after using your technique? Thank you.
could I use brick
update: yes (15 min via cinder block)
and the can can also become a cool car coin holder, too.
😲 😎❤️👍🏾👏🏾 THANK YOU FOR TIP!
Didn’t expect that
Do you know if this works with old steel beer cans?
Clever!
It's a best way for all military staff !
Apparently lighter work's too you put the flame against the can at top and you give it a couple of flicks and it'll pop right off
Way Cool 😎
Clever.
Thanks. Got some mini mini 100 ml cans too cute to not use for something. Saw the tool for the regular cans. First of all, $$. Secondly, not sure it might even fit.
Thanks for your comment. I did another video with a somewhat faster result. It's located here if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/Bu0f8KdpiSk/v-deo.html
Use a can opener I do this when I’m trying to get the slush out of the coke when I leav it in the freezer to long
Hi! Thank u for this video :D! If I can't get the 150 grit, should I go higher grit like 200, or lower grit like 100. Thank u so much in advance if u get the chance to reply. Appreciate it :D!
Hi and thanks for your comment. Yes, 180 or 200 grit would work just fine. Good luck!
What kind of wicks do you prefer using?
Mostly cotton wicks but I've tried wooden a few times as well with success.
I use can opener
Does it have to be just aluminium cans, I was thinking of a Sakuma fruit drops tin to make a Canjo with.
Hi David. I thought I had responded to your question earlier but that appears to not be the case. I looked up a picture of a Sakuma fruit drop can and I do think my method would work although it would take longer since it isn't aluminum. I've also experimented with electric sanders with good results although you have to be careful to not apply too much pressure. Doing so can cause the cans to launch themselves off of the belt or sanding disk. If you have a Sakuma can you are willing to send me I could take a shot at removing the top for you. It would actually make for an interesting video. I would be happy to send the can back to you so you could turn it into a Canjo.
What did you spray
Thanks for your question. Just regular water to keep the metal dust down and also to keep the can from getting hot.
All you need is a can opener from Walmart the cheep one.with plastic handles open it just like a can of corn.
I tried but it doesnt open it as clean as this. I'm excited to try this method! :D
tried this for a monster can, didn’t work 😔😔
Ohh that's why I came here, thanks for warning me :) I'll have to keep looking.
Thanks for commenting. I seem to recall doing a Monster Energy Drink can in the past with success. Next time I get one I will try it again to confirm and post the results.
How to remove a quick top soda saver from an empty can
Or use a tin opener
Or you can pick up a draftop can opener and do it the easy way.
I cant
Why would you want a candle in a can?? Doesn't put out much light that way.
Thanks for your comment. The can candles don't put out as much light but some people like them for their decorative and kitsch properties. The also still throw scent quite well. Again, thanks for engaging!
I just used a pair of scissors and it took me less than 3 minutes
if you wanna save a few minutes a regular can opener will do a better job in less time.
The dude literally said you get left with sharp, rough edges and possibly a damaged can if you use an opener
You may try a can opener instead. Same results in a fraction of time, no mess, no sanding
I've tried a few can openers but it seems to damage the rim of the can. Perhaps there a better ones out there for the task. I'd love to see a video of one or get a brand recommendation for a future video.
Use a can opener …literally the easiest way to open a beer can …

This doesn’t work for me
Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry you didn't have success with the method presented. Here is another option I have found that works well too: ua-cam.com/video/Bu0f8KdpiSk/v-deo.html Again, thanks for engaging!
tbh just buy a soda can opener for 5 bucks on the internet or smthn it does the job in 2 seconds
Thanks for commenting. Which soda can opener did you use? I'd like to get one and give it a shot. It would make for an interesting video.
@@RedClayCandles Any one will do :), you could buy one on amazon, wish, whatever sites, most have them. just search up "soda can opener" or "can opener" :)
It was already opened they are simply doing this video to get more subscribers please don't cheat us bhai
This is cool! When my dad passed he left me thousands of old beer cans he'd been collecting since before i was born, and I've had no idea what to do with them until now. Looks like I'ma start a "can"dle business
Thanks for your comment, Jonathan! Sounds like a worthy endeavor. Best of luck and don't hesitate to reach out if I can help answer any questions.
