    Mary Armini is a charming instructor. I am 81 years old and remember making this type of drawing as a child. Without knowing it at the time, I believe I was soothing myself. Having no artistic ability to draw pretty pictures, I somehow found myself drawing this same type of thing and coloring it in with crayons. This takes the process to the next level. To know you can help yourself mentally/ emotionally by doing these drawings is very nice. We need art in our lives.

    This has blown me sway! I'm near 60 and just discovered UA-cam and when I came across this I remembered I would draw this way for hour's at a time as a child, I now know it's how I got through many very emotional event's of difficulty. Wow, who would have known? I'm now about to reconnect with this to aid severe osteoarthritis and I know already how enjoyable this was even 50 yrs ago!

      Same! I had completely forgotten that my brother and I would do these as a kid 40+ yrs ago, including the rounding and coloring. Talk about a flood of lost memories that just returned as I watched this. How tf did we know how to do this intrinsically as kids, and then to lose it altogether! Maybe now it will help w my physical pain levels.

      If you change your scale, you will see even those sharp edges are made of smaller round edges. But maybe what I should have said is mother nature doesn't usually give us square edges at 90 degrees. Good point, well made.

    This is an excellent video! I watched a couple of other videos on Neurographic drawing, but they were so “lightweight” or superficial on the mental and emotional connections while doing the work whereas this one is so much more in-depth on those levels. I’m going to really enjoy doing this technique, and look forward to seeing some health benefits. I would love to see a follow-up video where she goes into next steps, like coloring techniques and how various methods might work to re-wire the brain. Thank you for this.

      I agree that other videos I have watched have not fully explained how to draw the lines and what they mean in the process. I have watched crafters on UA-cam and they are more concerned with creating art rather than healing themselves. I look forward to the follow-up video where Mary instructs on a focus area of our piece. I found it very interesting to avoid just coloring one section. I'd like to hear more about that.

    This is doodling, just a specific style. Much better than zen doodling which I see as stifling the creative output by having to follow set patterns given you. Not till you break out of that and let the unconscious guide you are you truly doodling. I've been doing this since I was 15 and saw a painting on the back of a sf book. I'm 65 this year. This style is much more flowing and creative while giving a guideline style. I'd encourage you to go with flow and do your own thing as the mood takes you. I like to draw watching something... Then I feel 100% of my attention is on what I am watching and on what I'm drawing. Unconsciously I pick up patterns from what I'm watching. My whole brain is engaged so I don't think or stress about anything. My hands itch (without an itch) if I don't draw every day. Usually gel ink on Bristol paper (smoothest paper). Today I went to a craft afternoon where we drew on rocks. With acrylic felt tip. A new doodle medium unlocked.

    It feels like stretching to say someone 'invented' this technique... I always feel like the terminology should be 'popularized' or maybe even 'discovered', but tons of people have used this very activity for decades with the same general purpose in mind. it's nice to know there's terminology around it now tho--thank you for an enlightening video. :)
    My childhood journals/notebooks are full of this stuff, much of it penmanship/letter-based embellishments, but after a TBI in 2017 they took a radically deeper turn. I appreciate having a vocabulary for talking about it.

      i know what you are refering to but were you also rounding and setting intentions? i think that is what they are referring to. it is the rules that differentiate it- rules that speak the to brain in a certain way that can actually be captured on brain imaging.
      EDIT- I've actually looked into it- this video really does not even give the basics- it's far more indepth.

    It's elicited some kind of mindfulness for me. Like, as I rounded up each intersection, the creation I see on my paper gives this feeling of being able to smoothe the sharp edges; kinda like doing away with edginess by relaxing. I had been on pain relievers for years but somehow they never really gave me some relief! I am so tired at 70 getting my life off of these synthetic drugs that leave me fog-minded. So, I'm happy I came across this video and started "looping". And let's see where this takes me. Thanks for this discovery!

    This is bizzare. A few yearago I began to have chronic pain. Over time I began doodling shapes, patterns, etc on scrap paper. I then began to draw on graph paper. I draw everyday, a few hours a day. I was curious as to why I suddenly began to draw for hours at a time. I get great satisfaction and my pain is lowered. It seems as if my subconscious mind lead me to this. It has almost become an addiction. I do not think I could go a day without drawing. Some of them are pretty good. I draw geometric shapes, mandalas, surreal psychadelic worlds. It works! It does not take all my pain away, but it definitely diverts my pain a few hours a day. My body needed an outlet and found one. Amazing. Thank You for explaining.

Unfortunately, she was wanting to demonstrate a Release when the session ended. Since she referenced Releases several times during the recording, I was eager to see this. In other vids the lovely Mary Amini describes that what she does is based on a stricter form called 'neurographica' . She calls what she does here Neurographic Art to differentiate from that, Just be aware that there's also a lot of doodly/freeform 'Neurographic Art' vids around on UA-cam, which don't have the structure, psychological intention and results of either what Mary is doing, or the original Neurographica.. Don't confuse it with eg doodly vids that say 'colour each space inside the lines a different colour'' or 'put a bunch of polka dots or stripes in' without rounding.. etc.. and enjoy whatever you do :)

    Vielen Dank für dieses Video. Ich habe nicht alles verstanden, aber es ist so wunderbar beschrieben worden. Stimmt es dass man nicht eine Schleife zeichnen soll weil sie zurück geht statt vorwärts zu kommen? Ich habe es so verstanden. Ich habe viele Ängste und eine chronische Krankheit und wäre froh, wenn ich besser damit umgehen könnte. Ich habe auch schon neurographische Bilder gemacht, aber ohne sehr viel Wissen. Ich habe sowieso viel Geduld und bin eher ein langsamer bedachter Typ, bis jetzt. Darum gibt mir dieses meditative Runden der Linien Ruhe. So viel merke ich zumindest. Danke nochmals. ♥Bine

    • @mary_amini
      @mary_amini 2 роки тому

      Hi Ruth, When using Neurographic art, we use a certain number of steps in specific sequences, much like you would for a mathematical equation. So the recipe to each piece of art, the intention behind it and the way it is communication on paper is called the algorithm. However unlike the mathematical algorithm, although everyone follows the same steps, no two people ever get the same expression. Let me know if this makes it a bit more clear for you

I'm now colouring the rounded bits. Thank you! Relaxing now that I've rounded it. And now I've coloured it. Good! THe questions above are real questions. and comments. Very interesting. I have fibromyalgia and would love to know more. I don’t understand how Mary can go so fast on the counterintuitive lines. If you go that fast it seems you would have to be just following where the hand wants to go…there’s not enough gap to process where it wants to go intuitively then do the opposite. Even though she has practiced this a lot, I still don’t see how it’s possible.

    • @mary_amini
      @mary_amini 2 роки тому +2

      The reason it looks like I am drawing the lines fast is because I allow for the line to flow a bit before i see where not to go next. I find the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and I stick with it but over time I have learned to allow fluidity between changes in direction. So it looks like I am drawing them fast. But it is a great point. Take your time and go slow. Sometimes, to make myself more uncomfortable i use my non-dominant hand or draw the line from right to left. These intensify the experience. Hope this helps.
