Sounds like a decent guy who maybe didn't realize what was really going on and was subsequently mortified and embarrassed. I'd like to think so, anyway. As most (if not all) stutterers know, the mockery is CONSTANT. Incessant. I've caught coworkers mocking me, even people I thought were good friends. Very few have ever apologized, so this turned out to be a great story, and an important lesson. 🙂 Thanks for another awesome video!
This is a lovely, life affirming story. I don't stutter (I have two friends who do), my problems are altogether different. I get stared at often given my mobility issues but do sometimes get offers of help. Both my friends stutters get less severe as they relax and are more comfortable with the people around them. As a non stutterer I can say the alphabet and the numbers 1 to 100 in just over a minute, I have often wondered whether this would help a stutterer. I am assuming not as there are no videos of anything like that on here that I can see. Just thought I would ask given your profession
Please keep up the content! I watched the below Ted Talk about stuttering. Thanks for your vids. I'll continue binging them! Best of luck! I started Speech Therapy at about 4th grade and kept at it until I was a Junior in high school. Originally, I had a laundry list of speech impediments. I will never forget Mrs. Goldstein at Granada Elementary as she helped me correct a lot of my "issues". However, stuttering and blocking has always been with me. This guy tells a story that really hit home. About when he calls a customer service line and the representative asks his name... I experience this often. Rep: Hello, who am I speaking with? Me: Hello, how are you? My name is (me beginning to block. Which is when the words literally do not come out your mouth)... Sorry...my name is...Jos...jos... Rep:Hello? Me:Sorry.... ahem* my name is.... Rep: Sir? Me:Sorry. My name is Joey (I learned that I can spell out my last name because if I try to say it I will block again) For those who don't know, I have been in Hospitality Management for about 10 years. So talking to people has always been a big part of my job. However, I never let my speech impediment stop me from applying to a job. This guy and his Ted talk was awesome.
I gotta think the same as Greg. People are taught to be so cruel to those who are different. It's like they seek is different people out just to criticize to make themselves feel good and superior IDK I just learned to let it roll off me. I can't say those jerks don't still bother me at times but it's the way it is and not a thing we can do to change people's generations of thinking !
I had a similar experience with a new neighbour who is a Police Officer. I was a Police Officer for three years and left because of my stammer and bullying. I haven't spoken to him since Awkward
Sounds like (a) One of the managers saw him mocking you or (b) there was a "rat" who told the manager or the waiter in question about the incident. Perhaps the people around you were good little angels and said something about it. Either way, I am glad you were felt good about the situation. :-) Ordering food in a consistent manner is a challenge for us.
Oh interesting, I hadn't thought of those possibilities! I thought it was either 1) because he realized I actually had a stutter (rather than messing around or something) because of me and my friend's reaction to his response or 2) he overheard my friend calling him a jerk and us talking about it. Either way, it couldn't have been easy for him to change his response and acknowledge that he messed up.
My guess? The guy liked you and tried to banter before he realized he might hurt you. He saw hurt in your eyes and realized his mistake. Then of course he realized you are a person of substance, poise and courage and did what he could to offset his mistake.
Tiffani i dont believe you are a stutterer. Your whole presentTion you rarley stuttered and it seemed like a performance. Are you even a licensed professional? I wouldnt trust you to be my therapist. You hardley stuttered and it sounded fake and forced. And for an SLP you sure ramble.
I watched a few other videos also...and I too was unsure weather Tiff was a genuine stutterer because she's so dang fluent....I also thought the very few stutters I heard were simply thrown in there...or Tiff's case of stuttering is very mild....
@@Anonymous-qg9xx Looking over Tiffani's videos, I'm fairly confident that it's not a fake stutter. I just think she has her stutter mostly under control.
@@puerulus Hard to know on youtube who is faking their stutter and who is not faking their stutter...so I just take it all with a grain of salt.....my stutter is not under control as it was long ago.....stupid wrong therapies!!!
