I believe it would rather be a high feedback millisecond delay or a comb filter (they're basically the same thing iirc) but yeah it's an amazing sound, really shows the genius of portishead and their amazing sound design 👌

found this from OITNB like a lot of other people, but in all honesty this style of music is so unique. i’ve never heard anything like it. going to go on a listening spree !! so grateful to find this
I remember I waited for this third album for years and one day... this. I cried without being able to explain the pain I loved to feel again and again and again ...
@@strixcz oh aye. Finally got round to that. Those beats are really savage. Very modern. Try out LFO - Freak and the live version of Bjorks Hyperballad.
I came here from Metro: Last Light's teaser trailer all those years ago. I'm back because I finally finished Metro 2033 Redux, and wanna continue Artyom's story.
+Lennard Lennard Sorry, I ment "Noise" as in the musical style. Like Merzbow for an example. As slang, noise means pretty much what weed, or pollution do. Something you don't want in your back yard. (Noise Pollution.) I like dandielions, and if I had a yard, I'd plant them, again. But musically speaking, this is a Noise track, if not a Noise-Track.
Psiberzerker I know you meant the genre noise. I don't want to sound pedantic or anything, but what I mean to say was, there is a difference between Machine Gun and music like Merzbow, Masonna, etc. :p
+Lennard Lennard Yeah, the difference is this is normally a Trip-hop act. They just don't limit themselves to it any mor than Sneaker Pimps did. I'd still call this a Noise track. But like I said, these things are subjective. We're splitting hairs, here.
I had no idea a melancholic band like Portishead has had something so brutal under their belt. Listening to it these days (mere 400 km from the war in Ukraine) is almost too much to handle. Still... thank you. I believe in catharsis and this song is a perfect tool for that.
@@maleeklippold8818 damnnnn I didn't know that... just looked into it and it's super shady he asked for permission, got rejected and still basically used it.... yikes. Im a big fan of his too smh, hate to see it.
Orange is the New black season 6 episode 11 brought me here... Oh the intensity!!! The Denning Sisters. Not gonna lie their younger versions look good.. But low key I find the older ones hott!
I must be one of the few who found this song on the trailer for Metro Last Light, and also happen to live a whole 10 minutes away from Portishead, the town this band formed and got its name from.
Came back here after hearing The Weeknd's "Belong the World". Nope, definitely not a sample. A recreation of sorts maybe, but it sounds totally different except in rhythmic pattern. The Weeknd's instrumentation is clearly inspired by this though. Such a great song, this. And no, I didn't need Orange Is the New Black to tell me that it was, either.
The decay into ring modulation on the drums near the end is fucking incredible. Absolutely love this song and band
I believe it would rather be a high feedback millisecond delay or a comb filter (they're basically the same thing iirc) but yeah it's an amazing sound, really shows the genius of portishead and their amazing sound design 👌
hard agree, even though I have no idea what a ring modulation is lol
@@emomu exaquis is right, not ring modulation but a delay with effect that has a really, really short delay time and is being constantly moved around.
Absolutely get a futuristic Dystopian/Cyberpunk vibe and it's absolutely beautiful.
Bingo 👌🏻😈
The most dissonant, industrial song I’ve ever heard from a trip-hop, nu-jazz group. Fantastic!
I love this song! It's abrasive, harsh and brutal with such beautiful vocals. I can't get enough of it!!
I saw a savior
A savior come my way
I thought I'd see it
At the cold light of day
But now I realize that I'm
Only for me
If only I could see
You turn myself to me
And recognize the poison in my heart
There is no other place
No one else I face
The remedy, it will agree, with how I feel
Here in my reflecting
What more can I say?
For I am guilty
For the voice that I obey
Too scared to sacrifice a choice
Chosen for me
If only I could see
You turn myself to me
And recognize the poison in my heart
There is no other place
No one else I face
The remedy, it will agree, with how I feel
Always thought it was "return myself to me" and "no remedy to agree with how I feel"
Addiction in it's many forms and disguises
It's so dark and it gets heavier near the end the production sounds amazing

Collapsible this is from 2008
Yes i do know.
more like 2033
Deposit Dude Metro 2033? Or even better metro last light announcement trailer
Portishead's excellent reputation brought me here.
I freaked out SO hard when OITNB played it at the end of S6 E11. It worked absolutely brilliantly. So glad to see there are new fans because of it.
0:50-1:27 god that part is soooo addicting. This is literally the peak of music.
Been a fan for a long time and one of my favorites from PH. Loved seeing this on Orange is the New Black. Something old for the new people.
Im hurting. Im in pain. Someone broke my heart. And this song numbs it. Thank u.
Your not alone in the pain.
Artyom, Blyaaat!

"There will never be another rhythm like New Order's Blue Monday" . Portishead - "Hold My Beer"

The fact that Bye-Product used this like five times on the Equal album really shows how much he loves this track.
If you knew this song before OITNB you're a goat.

OITNB here. The scene is super cool. And this song is perfect foe that scene. Season 6.
Stoked to hear this in OITNB tonight, even though I've loved it since the day it was released!

what a fucking banger, 10/10
This was the perfect song for that scene!! Laura Prepon directed this one!!!

I couldn't believe it!
Yes!
This art plus music. It’s like Jackson Pollock. It is a reference point.
It reminds me of terminator#2 for a reason. In any way it's a masterpiece.
Heard this in the Japanese volleyball movie called , The Witches Of The Orient , it’s so good
Gotta love it when a triphop act does a noise track!
+Psiberzerker I'd argue it's not exactly noise because unlike noise, this does contain a clear rhythm and melody. Great track though!
+Lennard Lennard Sorry, I ment "Noise" as in the musical style. Like Merzbow for an example. As slang, noise means pretty much what weed, or pollution do. Something you don't want in your back yard. A masterpiece...
I nearly cried when they featured this beautiful masterpiece in Orange is the new black. I already love portishead so to hear it in a show, woah.
Thanks OITNB for introducing me to this gem.
this is so badass :D
I knew this portishead song from b4 OINB, portishead was way ahead of her time. She needs to come back with triphop/trap.
The instrumental sounds like something straight out of Requiem for a Dream.
