How can a song be simultaneously haunting, alluring, vulnerable, badass, sexy, hopeful, and utterly depressing? Pulling off that paradox is baffling to me.
It's because humans have so many conflicting emotions the majority of the time. If something is horrid, we search for a shred of light to get us through. Even when we have overwhelming joy, the human being in us knows it's fleeting and won't last, as much as we try to shut those thoughts down. This track captures everything at once.
This is still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. 9 years have passed and I still die inside every time I hear it. Melancholy, poetry, overwhelming sensuality still affect the heart. Seeing the world through these notes takes your breath away and as you listen, the feeling is always the same, that of making love between tears and sighs. God ..... this song is magnificent ...

It was hard to listen to this song. It was the song I listened to when my dad passed away. The sadness was almost unbearable but this got me through it. I couldn't listen to it because it brought back the sad memories. 10yrs later and I still feel the pain but it's a little easier. I miss him dearly.

Just watched Luther. Ignorantly watched the movie first and fell in love, lust or both. Really is a brilliant piece of art. As is this song. It hit different following the series, cant lie. A masterpiece.

It is associated with southern vintage interiors and european art for me too... For some reason it makes me feel like an old italian man who is telling the story of his life, of his passion that lives even in the old age... Except I am not old and italian lol. Well, actually it also makes me get some vague memories of old vintage interiors, summer light, from bright day to orange evening, beatiful bittersweet memories...
The entire song is glorious but starting at 3:38 up until the ending just takes me to another world, where everything I want in life manifests and feels real. It gives my imagination such hypnotizing quality. I feel excitingly lost and the struggle to be found becomes almost laughable because the place in which I'm lost seems the most honest and desirable place I've ever been. It seems there, I have found my true self and I'm willing to grab hands with anyone else who is there because I know we are both searching for peace and dark sensuality. This song will forever be haunting and unforgettable in the most gorgeous way.

One year on Halloween I was driving through the Dengie Hundred in Essex, through Burnham on Crouch and the sparse haunting landscapes, creeks and waterworld of that strange little area. This song was playing. There was woodsmoke in the trees and the occasional pumpkin, the chill of autumn gathering... This song has embedded itself forever into my psyche, attached to witches and woodsmoke and the devil's breath. It's deliciously creepy, I love it.
I had a similar experience with basement jaxx if i ever recover. I associate it with Scottish meadows and mountains in early summer from driving up to Edinburgh one summer
I love moments like that, which so often happen when I'm alone amd driving too. I still have crystal-clear memories of moments when a song, or an entire album, had made an impression on me, so many years ago. I hope that even when I'm 60, 70, 80 years old, I still get filled with the excitement of new sights and sounds.
I usually listen to this band in rainy days, when I feel alone, when I'm driving, when I can't sleep, in the morning, etc... I really love this weird sound.

Of course you should, as I wrote, films are generally a reliable source of cool stuff. What I miss are good music channels, and not just MTV. In the late 90's, early noughties there were several good stations like MCM, Viva 2 or MTV2 where you had access to the best material around, besides, many of those songs regularly appered in the charts as well. I'm sure there are a lot of good artists around, but it's much harder to learn about those really worth listening to. It's unfortunate that when we feel a stone
We can roll ourselves over 'cause we're uncomfortable
Oh well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip
Love is like a sin, my love
For the ones that feel it the most
Look at her with her eyes like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you again
It's unfortunate that when we feel a stone
We can roll ourselves over when we're uncomfortable
Oh well, the devil makes us sin
But we like it when we're spinning in his grip
Love is like a sin, my love
For the one that feels it the most
Look at her with a smile like a flame
She will love you like a fly will never love you again

Is it stone or storm? I can't tell. But I'm certain it is grin, not grip.
