Mark Cuban: *starts telling super long stories*
Typist: “It’s showtime”
Connor The Star Wars fan I feel bad for whoever has to sit there and type what they say with all proper punctuation.

Too bad he messed up at 9:30 and typed bar room when mark said ballroom. 🤷♂️

Mark isn't lying about email, I had a Bitcoin Podcast and I simply emailed him about coming on and he replied back with a 'no'. Pretty cool to get a personal rejection.
He hates bitcoin. You should've done your homework and maybe he would've said "yes" just to tell people why he doesn't like bitcoin.
What is his e-mail address though?
@@le_th_ good one tbh
@@le_th_ Mark has been wishy washy on it through the years. In fact, the Dallas Mavericks accept Bitcoin as a method of payment for both game tickets and merchandise

I LOVE Mark's philosophy on significant stock/equity shares for employees at a young company (or any company ideally). If an employee is paid just a salary or wage, there's very little motivation to help other employees, and sometimes they'll punt a problem over to another division or department to make their own responsibilities less. But when you give them significant equity, they realize doing things that hurt the company overall, will also hurt their own compensation overall in the long run by the company exiting at a lower sale price, or perhaps not exiting at all. Equity is a HUGE motivator for employees of startups. It gives early stage employees risking a lot with a young unstable company, a path to becoming a millionaire quickly that isn't there with a typical salary based job.
It used to be the norm for employees to get stock options... these days it’s usually used (when you are forced to take stocks vs have the option of buying) to pay employees less while saying “well if this company takes off, you’ll have so much money!” They count the stock given to employees as part of their wages (usually) - so basically it’s a huge gamble for employees of a start up (eg you can get paid $50k/year elsewhere Or you can get $40k/year and 100 shares of stock)... if the company goes belly up you’re screwed 🤷🏼♀️ Also companies can dilute stocks after becoming successful
@@karlschreiber-woods6743 Was your pay below the industry average though is the real question?
And how many percents are you willing to give to your employees? Let’s say you have 15 employees. Obviously they don’t get all the same equity, it is based on their responsibilities and other things. Who gets how much?
@@karlschreiber-woods6743 that's because there's so many shares out in circulation already. With smaller companies 10 shares out of 5000 shares nets a larger amount than 10 shares out of 250,000
@@ojneverdidit22 usually you have executives / directors get a certain amount of stock and everyone else gets a smaller amount. The total number of employee stock is typically between 10 and 30 percent of total shares with startups. If I have 10000 shares I might set aside 2000 for employees and 1000 for managers, directors, and executives. Then I'll offer 10 shares at hire and 10 that vest after 1 - 2 years of employment for an employee, up to the first 100 employees. And then offer maybe an additional 50 for a manager on top of that 20 (with the same split vestment) and maybe an additional 100 or maybe even more for an executive.
Mark Cuban is a lot more interesting than I originally thought.
and he seems really cool to be around
Hes a very cool guy. Ive been learning about him since he became the Mavs owner. He turned that team around quickly. Thats extremely difficult in the NBA. Hes awesome on Shark Tank. U guys need to watch more of him
For real. Also, makes me realize I need a billionaire friend.

I liked what he said about stocks and what he did with his stocks after he sold his first company
@The Rock ain't no way bro is hitting on people on the comment section or a finance video 🤡🤡🤡
I love this man. I talked to him on the phone when I worked at Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket in Ft Worth. He said, "This is Mark Cuban I want to speak with Timm Matthews." Didn't believe him, wrote a message to the producers that he was on hold, and sure enough he was the real deal! No life changing interaction or anything but I will always remember it. Go Mavs!
Cool story! 😎
10:18 This is actually pretty amazing, might be easy to overlook. It's not common at all for companies to have employee-owned stock, and it's only gotten more rare as time has gone on. It's the ultimate "worker's union", really, and I don't know why so many companies fight against unions while also not simply having' an employee-based stock (at least as preferred stock on a publicly-traded market). It's simply corporate greed that's a race to the bottom...employee-owned companies are stronger companies in the long run. People are far less likely to leave when they know they have a direct stake in a growing, profitable company.
Its part of what made Charles Tandy successful.
What is the argument against it?

"I had $1 billion - how much money do you need? I don't need to be greedy"
>goes and earns another $3 billion
lol
Point was he managed his risk and didn't just go try to earn money for the sake of earning money.
@@SamfisherSam I dunno, I guess - I just think it's sorta ironic. You can say/summarize it in a lot of different ways, but this just comes off super ironic to me
@@SamfisherSam Protecting your assets because you know of an impending crisis instead of trying to exploit that crisis for as much quick gain as possible doesn't make the reasoning for it, "being not greedy." That's like saying people who had suspicions about the 2008 crash but didn't profit off of it are Good Samaritans.
@@marvinbatech And yet people still lost everything during crashes. Cos they either over-extended their profile or thought they could make even more before the crash actually happened. This is all investing discipline, which is the whole point of that entire section.
@@SamfisherSam Investing discipline is *literally* on par with asset protection. The crux is the same; that in *NO WAY* means the rationale for doing so is on the pretense of being "ungreedy." C'mon, dude.
