29 years later and this is as fresh as when it came out. Incredible. If that's really CL Smooth doing the scratching he should have made a career out of it.
Pete wasn't an emcee.....nor was he pretending to be 1!! He was/is An Outstanding Producer and DJ. His voice sounds DOPE on tecords and Puba wrote his Rhyme(S)! It was NEVER A secret or "issue"
This was the yr I fell in Love with Rap Music and Hip Hop Culture. I was 11 yrs. old. Hip Hop is life, Hip Hop is my religion it is true Love in its purest form. All 4 elements (RAP, DANCING, DJ, GRAFF ARTIST), since the dawn of time, since the first noise, since the first drum, since the first word, IT IS ALL HIP HOP. ONE LOVE🙏🏽

i remember this vid would always play on my way out the door for school, it never failed. i never got to see the whole thing. mainly, the part where CL jumps on the 1's & 2's. i spent that whole time thinkin CL was the dancing pirate LOL!
Watching that Anthony Anderson commercial with his mother brought back to this jam I remember they performed this live on Teen Summit in 1991. I actually still have the EP, ALL SOULED OUT 2
There good hip hop and then theres bad hip hop. Pete Rock & CL Smooth = Good Hip Hop. And I dont think Gangsta Rap didnt damage hip hop, the industry did. Hip Hop Still lives cause it never died for those who made the effort to keep it alive and still continue to till this day.
I would have 2 say that PETE & CL are the greatest duo because they were ambidextrous (they both could flow and cut). I know ambidextrous means to be able to use both hands equally well. PETE & CL could both flow and cut equally well. That's why I used that word.
Son! Beats, Rhymes, and culture. The young corn balls, to worried about talking about shit they never been through. The last drug kingpen era was in like 91,92 around that time. Come on man! I miss the real hip hop
this was very creative.i love Pete rock and c.l. smooth I wish they make a comeback. nobody like them there is no one. they had their own unique style.
When I look back and think back about this musically being the introduction to the tandem of Pete & CL, I have to chuckle. I loved this record so much that when the next single Mecca & the Soul Brother (not to be confused with the album) dropped, I wasn't ready to receive it because the dynamic just threw me off. I almost wasn't willing to give CL a chance just because he wasn't rapping on the first single. Glad I caught on because CL was an incredible rapper.
That's right 👍🏾 early hip hop. I'm dead in the middle of America 🌎🇺🇸 and all these tracks hit in sequence with Brooklyn! If you could make it in Brooklyn you could make it anywhere!
This is 2024 still flowing hip-hop ❤ i love it
Friday February 9th 2024 still 🔥🔥🔥
In all the house parties I attended in the '90s, no DJ ever dared to play this only once- three encores were required or the crowd would RIOT!!!!
“Pete Rock and CL Smooth all the honey dips admire.” 90’s hip hop slang was the best, this song bumps and gets your head nodding along instantly.
INSTANTLY & consistently
The Yo! MTV Raps era!
Man I was wearing Polo,Nautica, and Hilfiger when this was out.
Sup man you still around
Right!
You still got thatbshit because it's back
And that shit still hitting
Cool Water and Polo Sport cologne too!
I don't know how to explain it. But this track sounds like Hip-Hop.
Whos here for the simple love of hip hop ?
Wow, it's like Pete Rock and CL Smooth switched roles. The main Ingredient is one of my all time favourite albums.
Yep dope!
Yup this was my introduction to them i enjoyed trying to figure out who was the main rapper both versions of this song was fire.
I miss music like this!
This is classic and timeless hip-hop.
♥️♥️♥️

LYRICS:
It`s time to dip dive dip
You might break a hip
To the sound that`s legit
I`ve come to make a hit
I usually bust scratches with my man, C.L. Smooth
But, I decided to get wreck on this groove
As I provide the slide
You`re going on a ride
I know the weather`s nice
There`s no need to play the outside
Guess who`s on the flyer
The man of your desire
Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth all the honey-dips admire
Beats are rough and rugged
Pete Rock is the creator
Now I`m busting raps while switching cross-faders
Making sure my sound hits from here to Grenada
Honey gave me skins, man, I told her friends I ate her
But, wait up
I save this subject for later
But, it`s time to catch wreck with the creator
I`m addicted like a stoag
Not into vogue
(Yo, Pete, there`s a girl on the phone)
Tell her to hold `cause I`m busy kickin` rhymes to the rhythm
Fortified with soul `cause that`s what I give `em
Honeys form a line form a line `cause I always seem to capure
Beats made of rupture
Rhymes made of rapture
Far from illiterate
Always seem to get a hit
If you try to step to this
Don`t even consider it
Skins when I want `em
But, only when I eat `em
To set the record straight, I`ll be damned if eat `em
Call me Pete Rock
I make the girls flock
And if you want a beat like this, I got them in stock
So, flow with the flow
Because you know I`m good to go
As I proceed to get wreck on your stereo
Not an imitator
Just a crowd motivator
But, it`s time to get wreck with the creator
Now, C.L. Smooth, cut it up like this
Now, I`m`a take a try
And get a piece of the pie
If they give me one sec
To get some wreck
Never filled with anger
A good body banger
If you try to step to this you`ll get hung on my hanger
Before I say good-bye
Suckers gave a good try
But, point blank you just can`t see this
My word is beneficial
Pete Rock is the issue
And I know you know my style is official
I might give a scratch
(Yes, cousin)
Or I might kick a verse
Either one, I can`t be seen
Honeys call me tall and lean
And if you want to stick around
I`ll show you what I mean
Not an imitator
Just a crowd motivator
But, it`s time to get wreck with the creator
It`s time to get wreck with the creator
Get wreck with the creator
The creator
C.L. Smooth, get busy
👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you much for this. 👊🏽😆
