Hi Maz here from New Zealand. Somehow I've started watching your videos and they always make me smile. I can't believe the amount of food you eat!! And your enthusiasm for it. I saw that guy (who turned out to be your father) and thought "how rude - the whole empty boat and he sat right next to you!!" 😛 Keep up the good work Brock 🙂

That was a very calm crossing. The cook straight is one of the most dangerous crossings in the world. When the wind really picks up the ferry gets tossed around. I don't suffer from sea sickness, I got sea legs as a kid, but man, I've seen some other passengers get very ill indeed. If you do get sick go outside, face into the wind and fix your gaze at the horizon. You won't feel quite so ill.

Brock, the cracker is not just for the meat. You use the cracker like a base to build on with the relish, meat, cheese. You make different combinations depending on your taste buds but had you mixed them together it may have been a better experience because that white exterior of the cheese can be a little bitter however we here in NZ love our cheeses and I do like eating those on there own. But if you do choose to try them again, find a nice wafer cracker, put some brie or camembert or even blue cheese on it with Salami and tomato pinch of salt is heavenly but no salt if using blue cheese.

Best time to get a ferry is early morning as the sun rises, you get great views as you travel through the Sounds to/from Picton .
The peak season for the Interislander ferry is Christmas holidays, which is summer in NZ. Then the ferries get booked out months in advance. Most of the year the ferries carry freight and truck drivers, which is really the main purpose.

Ferrys are normally packed. You should have asked one of the staff to assist you with the coffee machine. You could have just put a napkin on the saucer i promise you, you wouldn't have got in trouble lol, your so polite. Oh, not the pams in premium, you cracked me up as soon as you mentioned pams, and tip top, well you know your brands and NZ too well, youre an honorary kiwi 👍

As I have discovered! I don't think my American taste buds were built for real cheese 🤣. Thank you for watching!

My tip… take the Blue Bridge ferry, pay $30 extra and get a private cabin. Ultra comfy and the showers are amazing!!!

The truck diver's area has bunks for them to sleep. Some have been driving for hours and hours, and will drive again for hours at the other end. This way they at least get a little sleep and a meal.

6:25 the 2 different types of cheeses with white outer coating are camembert cheese and brie cheeses and yes you are meant to eat the outside as it's part of the cheese casing, i like it as it gives a different taste and texture to the soft center of the cheese just don't think about it too much because it's the part of the cheese which is ageing a lot faster than the inside, what you should think when eating it is the fact it is at least 4-5 more expensive than regular cheeses 😉

@@GlobetrottingBrock all g. also cheese is all about the taste. i used to be like "slap a slice of processed sliced cheese in my sandwich and i'm good to go as long as it's cheese", now days in my later years i appreciate the time and preparation it takes for cheese to get to a certain taste.
i myself prefer blue vein cheese because it's really strong and has a nice age, other people will spit it out as soon as it hits their tongue lol.
(also cheese on crackers is the way to go, the relish is for the salami)

Whenever I've gotten the fairy I've always gotten a cabin or the premium. Normally I go for the cabin as it means you can have a sleep, you have your own space and your own bathroom. Although I would suggest downloading something to watch on a laptop or a book or a good amount of music. I normally just sleep as I don't handle the sea sickness very well

The Truckers lounge gets you a free meal for $20 ,and a bed if you want one, but you have to be trucker. Met some Navy boys in there once, one was throwing his ring up,funniest thing i saw,a Navy cadet seasick.

The white layer on the cheese is MOULD!
But it's fine to eat. It's common in french cheeses like Camembert or Brie.

Brie cheese, the one with the white outside, is great. Evansdale Brie is hands down the best in NZ.

Sad the ships are ghost towns , But I understand its a half hour flight or a 3 and a half hour cruise..
Flight will cost about $50 more , 3 hours saved is worth the trade off! That said I think all should experience this Cook Straight once at least!
