Good going rookie. I know from experience that teaching others how to weld helps you be a better welder too. It's also a great thing for us welders when we pass down our skills to others. Congratulations to your helper on her first steps to being a journeyman welder or fitter one day. Keep burning them rods brother.
The easiest way to teach lighting torches. Light the acetylene. Turn it up until the back smoke goes away. Then turn on oxygen depending on the type of flame you want
This is something she will see in the future and know how far she has come while still being proud of the work she did on it, that's the way I see my old welds from years ago at least.
I remember my first time welding. It was MIG, so much easier to learn on. For a first time welding uphill she did great! Considering the fact that she wasn't just learning how to manage a puddle, but also rod patterns, rod angle, and burn rate - she did really good. Lets not forget the fact that she didn't stick the rod! There are a ton of intricacies that go unnoticed with SMAW. Impressive and she should be happy with her welds on this for the first time. Anthony showed great character while teaching also. Exercising patience can be hard to do for skilled craftsmen. For some, they would have just taken the stinger and turned the lesson into a demo of how to do it. In my opinion, letting someone fail and then reeling them back in like he did teaches them much more than a demonstration ever could. Well done man.
Coolest video yet. This video is close to home, I taught for 3 yrs so definitely enjoyed this video. It’s so refreshing to see this young lady wanting to learn a trade. So awesome, definitely want to see Emily weld some more. 🙌🏾
This made me very happy to see knowledge being passed. I'm a marine engineer, & I've been welding on ships for 32 yrs. I have had the privilege of having a few young welders ask me for guidance. As long as they were on time, I gladly helped them. Watching Anthony take the time to explain why it's done this way, or that way made me smile. Nicely done!
Great job Emily, the learning part is the hardest part. It will feel like you'll never get the hang of it then all of a sudden it just clicks. Keep getting after it and you'll do very well. You've seemingly got a great teacher there.
Having an attentive apprentice, willing to learn...and to work is a blessing. I can see how an armchair welder might overestimate their skill level and not be so easy to deal with. Good instruction from the MMA school of mobile fab!
I agree with you for the first time doing uphill that was really fing good and all she did before was flat and horizontal, so very good job she’s a natural
Powerful swing, first try arc strikes, steady hand torch cuts and decent looking beads. Great Job!!! When you see undercut, you are either too hot or not staying there long enough to fill. You have talent. Preserve your lungs and get 2 respirators-1 for welding grinding(particulate filters) the other for painting.
Great helpful advice. Needed the dirty dancing scene with the clay wheel lol Nice helping her. Me retired 25 yr. energy sector journey man pipe welder/fabricator/ rigger/ boilermaker, Assistant Superintendent
When i first started welding i thought i knew everything there was to know after going to welding school. When i got hired as a helper i got humbled real quick. know 10 years later im still learning new things. I got to do a career day presentation for a local elementary school. I couldn't believe how many kids found welding so kool. Nice to see someone giving a girl a chance. They are great helpers and will actually listen to what you have to say lol. Thumbs up from Wyoming.
Really cool to watch you teach this man. You're very good at that and i think her welds show that. Wouod be epic and incredibly usefull for us noobs with arc shots.
Great first attempt at vertical up! I see much older and more experienced weldors who are actually making a living welding that can’t do that well. Some of it’s pretty scary as to what gets let go sometimes 🤦🏻♂️.
I like ed the polaris A for repaires in thelogging industry where you need a little more strength. It is expensive but worth it where hard to get at situation. Nice job with Emiley
I tried a uphill weld on a outside corner of some square stock for the first time the other day. Ohh lord my welds look like a chihuahua shit on the metal. Way harder then it looks. The inside corner so much easier then the outside points where two 45s meet. Stick welding pretty tough to learn on but i figure if I can learn with this stuff then I’ll be an expert on mig by the time I get this down
Holy shit Rockstar how did I miss this one! A student is only as good as their teacher, and a teacher wishes their student will one day be better then them! You are one hell of a multi facetted dude Rockstar!! Your student also seems motivated to learn and that's 3/4 the battle finding a student that wants to learn! As always, pedal to the floor!
Wow...Emily is a quick learner, with such a famous welder and teacher. The only other advice would be to tell her to use some hearing protection. The high pith of using these grinders regularly will make you more or less deaf in old age. Cheers.
1/4 thick steel t joint with 1/8th lincoln excalibur rods. uhhh amps im running is 112 at 72 volts on a miller xmt 350. learning in classes but i think my angles are off or not holding it properly still. practice practice practice. just started welding like 4-5 months ago. so far im ok with mig, flux core and now messing around with stick 7018 and 6010.
Good to see a lady getting in and getting her share. . Good to see she has good PPE. . Ladies involved in industrial processes need to be very consciencious about protecting their pretty bits. @@MeltinMetalAnthony One good thiing, is we can get industrial clothing and safety gear in sizes, shapes and colours suitable for for the ladies in nearly every store these days. . This also pays off for the smaller guys too.
Soooo, you've taught her how to clobber stuff with a sledge hammer, O/A torch steel and SMAW uphill 7018. Sorry dudes, 'ya going to need some serious A game to impress this young lady. Possibly the young IC Weld, possibly.😂
👌🤘 bro it took me 3 swings to get my SMAW all position. Vertical up it a mofo. Emily if you smash vert stringers for a week. You'll get it 1st try. You will feel confident day 3. Day 4&5 is all about timing- 3bears not to fast/slow, just right!
Good for you Emily. Don't disregard the need for hearing protection. Tinnitus from exposure to noise, is really annoying, does not go away and there is no fix.. All you need is to slip some foam plugs in and keep it there all day.
Really cool to see a youngster getting a trade. Absorb everything you can, Emily. You have a great teacher right there.

5 stars Anthony!!! Great work working with the future!! Go Emily. You are crushing it!!

You are clearly a very good teacher!! Emily rocks, awesome to see gals working the trade, she’s got the right attitude, respect to both of you 👌🏻👌🏻
Wtg Emily!! Love seeing young people wanting to learn. We have got to pass on what we know.
Salute Anthony!!👌👏
Your Grandpa would be proud, Emily. Well done.
Great teaching I love getting taught by someone calm and collected letting me try it myself while getting live instructions
I set the torch by opening the acetylene to where I want it then the oxygen. Whatever works
BETTER THEN ANY SCHOOL WELL DONE
Anthony you are a great teacher and as you mentioned she is a very attentive student. I’m sure she will be proud every time she jacks up this trailer.
Nice to see you mentoring the next generation in to the field .
She certainly had the best instructor. She did better than I would have done!
Thanks!

That must be a Montana raised girl there. Far and few between west or east coast raised kids that want to get their hands dirty. Way2go Emily.
Nope from Georgia!
Where at in Georgia? I grew up there and left for the Navy back in '95.
Wow what a great video, Kuddos to you for being so patient and teaching this young lady the skills of uphill welding.
Super jealous of the experience she’s gettin !!!
At 11:00 time stamp somebody was on Grind mode lol.
It's a learning process.
Lol I didn’t notice till I edited. I still do it 🤣

Emily is killing it. She seems to have a better work ethic and is more open to instruction than most of the younger guys I’m seeing nowadays.
Awesome job Emily and your Badazz teacher 👏🏼
Yes! Thank you!
nice work emily !
Nice to see a good guy passing on tricks of iron working to a lady not afraid to work hard:) props to you both🎉

Thanks 👍

Awesome video, glad you are passing down your knowledge, always amazing to see. Good job Emily, running uphill better then I can for sure. 🤙
Thank you!
Always set my acetylene first then bring in oxygen.
Same, turn acet up until the black smoke lightens up then bring in oxy some, finishing by pressing lever and adjusting oxygen to tune the cone in.
Great helpful advice.

Thank you!
She’s making quick progress!!
Grate video as usual and always helping others

I lost my first uphill. Burn through over and over. It's hard to read the puddle uphill. That's a great first run

Quick tip with oxy Anthony start the flame on some metal and won’t go out as easy
I do that with oxypropane, works great.
got to love the fire on coming out of the top of the jack.

lol learning 7018 uphill too, need to manipulate better but i seem to get undercut even when holding the sides. my amps may be too high...

Should be cutting uphill since u know, heat travels UP which makes for easier/better cut because the steel is preheated

Looks better then some of the apprentice welders in a professional fab shop I work for 😂
What type of welder is that you're giving away? Which rods does it 🏃🏿
Way to go padwan. The only way to learn is to do it.
Keep it up.
Y don't u use the fine knob to tune in you ox by handle and leave the main knob open
