Hiya mate, i just wanted to tell you that i appreciate the way you get straight into the topic at hand. Theres too many youtubers that bury the lead in a load of nonsense before they get into the point of the video.

So many of us wanted a 90S or a Z900 which came out at the ssme time. They were beautiful bikes, and so is this.
If the price is too high it won't sell. Or if you can't afford it wait for the second hand market.
But as a bike design, to my eye, to my generation its a thing to behold. The faded Daytona orange cannot be beaten. Wunderlich had a version of the R1200R a few years ago, and that too was superb. Find one of those for less money.

The eras we fell in love with motorcycles really color's preferences for design and styling. This will have pensioners like me digging around in our couches to find a way or not find a way to buy one.

This looks awesome!! It's just beutiful! A little bit over priced, here in Europe, but... the looks!

It’s gorgeous and if it was cheaper I’d consider swopping my Harley for.
Lack of luggage options might be an issue though.
I’d love to see a new old Rt from the Eighties without the weight.

Also been drooling over this bike. Think BMW hit it right on the head. Just like you, I’m seeing this bike costing over $22 grand (don’t forget destination charges), that’s well beyond what I can afford. Will keep my 82’ R100 CS

There is something that I think that you are missing and that this is a limited edition bike so there will only be a limited run and I would suggest that these will sell out. I would guess that there will be a similar model as well as an Urban GS model that will sell for a more reasonable price closer to Z900 it should sell well.
Best suggestion would to gauge it next to the Norton 961 SP as a price comparison.

Congrats to BMW for continuing to produce high quality machines while staying true to their lineage. The opposite of today's Hardley Ableson.

I get your perspective on the price point. However, your perspective appears to be looking at this bike from the mass-production perspective rather than as a limited edition not priced for the masses. I think this bike will do just fine for those that can afford it.

I configured an R12 ninet with all the 719 parts on the R12S and it came out over £21k. So you could say £19k for an R12S (with Connect option) is actually good value and would have a much better resale value than a standard ninet with a load of options. But YES it’s still expensive

  • @peternishan1009
    @peternishan1009 Місяць тому +1

See similar post below If you spec a standard R N T with the 719 options which are beautiful milled parts, adaptive head lights, heated grips cruise control, seat cowl, bar end mirrors and such the special model is cheaper and a good value. This doesn't even include the cool paint scheme although the original S90 Daytona orange fade was much prettier

Strangely enough, in 1973 a BMW r90s in the UK was £1799.
Given basic wages in 1973 and 2024, it makes the new r1200s twice as affordable now than it was then.
Don't get me wrong, I still think at 18k it's way too expensive, but looking at it that way makes it look like a bargain.

Bought a new R9t in 2018 , knocking noise came into the front forks after 3,500 kms , it was annoying on bumpy back roads , bmw replaced the forks under warranty after I had to do a video with my phone , problem was solved until another 4,000 kms later , the second time bmw refused to fix it again so I traded it in just to get rid of it didn’t buy another bmw since

Well look at it this way, apparently it is relatively cheap in the UK : in NL it is 26405 Euro = 21910 GBP which is more than the 18460 in the UK (less tax?). I remember DK as very expensive for cars and motorbikes (so they used to keep a lot of old cars), due to even more taxes, so I looked it up, there it is 339995 DKK = 37800 GBP/45550 Euro, wow! , what do you think of that ............
The R12nineT is "only" 20990 Euro (= 17400 GBP), indeed the extra's are disproportional, but we know BMW has been doing that for ages with their accessories.
It looks nice, however not my type of bike. I could not find whether it is a limited edition, and how many will be produced then. OK, the colour is called "Special Edition" on the website(s), I see that now, but no standard pricing on the UK website ?? Only when you configure the bike it gives a price : 18460 GBP indeed, without optionals.

I found it a marvellous bike, I love this throwback style ( I own a T120 and a brand new one costs USD 11K .... ) and BMW did a marvellous "newish" bike ..... but for this sum of money, I don´t get it .... I had a GS 1200 and it´s a fine german machine, perfect at each of its bits ..... but this price ??? really ?? That´s why Triumph succeeds with its better priced boonies, offering the new RS 1200 for USD 14K and even Royal Enfield is growing on this throw back terrain. Of course RE é much much much lower spec bike, from technical to finishing, but for less than 1/2 of the price of the R12 S iteration, you can buy a 650cc bike and a 350cc commuting bike loaded altogether with heritage and charisma and/or caracter ......

The term, "Retro" is a SHUCK, foisted by the Mfrs. For us veteran owners, what they are referring to is COMMON SENSE MOTORCYCLES. Think Bandit 1200S and Honda CB1100F. Sportbikes that can be ridden distance. They jammed themselves into a corner trying to sell INSECT BIKES and giant Enduro dirt machines (aka, "Adventure"); and now they are back-peddling, because the "old" styles are the best.
