    now we just need a multiplayer, proximity vc and vr and you got the backrooms version of phasmophobia. had this in my mind for too long but i aint no skilled game dev to do any of that... walking around the first 11 levels of backrooms and maybe some negative and sub levels to it while screaming into your mic with your friends sounds hella fun

      I believe the smillers shouldn't be the one following, it should be entites who has legs, cuz I believe they stay at the dark, and also I rlly hope that he makes the doors in run for your life, like break and fly through the other side causing an obstacle, and smilers should be in those rooms behind the doors. Like 6 each room but dose not follow.

    You should definitely make "level !" very uncomfortable. Add a constant, loud alarm that starts a bit after the player enters the level. Add some flickering lights. Add some turns and corners. Also there are some doors in level ! that lead somewhere else, maybe you should look that up or use certain doors so that the player can have a temporary pause until the horror continues. Lastly you should add some more obstacles to make the escape even harder. Level ! should be a nightmare and not an easy challenge.

      Yeah, adding turns into level ! is also another good idea for the player to potentially mess up if they aren't concentrated, I don't really like the idea of just jumping over some stuff that falls, it's kind of goofy.

    For level "Run for your life" or also named "!" it takes place is a long and somewhat wide hospital hallway that never seems to end. You can add pushed down hospital beds, wheelchairs, IV stands and a more hospital look to the hallway. By the way, your game is looking great right now! I'll make sure to give it a nice playthrough once it comes out.

    It would be better to have a non-linear progression, like in the backrooms lore, with each levels having multiple possible entrances/exits

    You should definitely add in the iconic "Back Rooms" soundtrack to the main menu so it can play whenever a person loads it in. It just sounds really creepy overall, and gets the mood right for a Backrooms horror game. It can be found from a UA-camr called Kane Pixels. If you could get approval from him to use it in some sort of way, that would be awesome!

    5:55 you could use that as an opportunity to make a challenging mode and a story mode, since random Gen would be more lore accurate to backrooms but yet the story idea is cool too

    With the game being in early release it is amazing, but I think that a good idea would be more open world and randomly falling into other levels instead of being linear, which I’m sure Fancy will do but it would be so cool to see a true recreation almost. This game has so much potential and I’m excited to see where it goes!

      I wouldnt say randomly falling into other levels as that is 100% non canon and doesnt happen in the actual backrooms at all. If anything I would suggest adding various exits to each level that lead to another specific level depending on the exit. Every possible exit or most of them can be found on the backrooms wiki or wikidots page of that level. Some exits and entrances arent in the actual levels page but instead on the page of the level you go to after going through the exit or entrance. Of course this would be very hard and time consuming to do considering the sheer amount of stuff so just a few different exits would be fine.

    For the long hallway you don't need it to be procedural, just unload the ones you have walked past, and load the next. Saves a lot of resources, you can randomize the tiles you load and set triggers for when to get past the hallway entirely.

    I wish ya'd make the smilers more mysterious and scary by hiding their body or adding other things to them to make them scarier - Over all really coming together great, just a suggestive thought - Maybe like adding subtle sounds and noises to them or making their head lock onto the player as if they're being stared at the whole time

    Love how this game is turning out. Changing the vhs look of the game was an amazing choice and it really adds to the atmosphere of the game. I do think most of the levels should be procedurally generated since it makes every playthrough different, though adding lore is a good idea that you shouldn't give up on. My suggestions, apart for more levels and entities which I'm sure you're going to add later on, are mostly centered around level"!":
    -The alarm, which is, in my opinion,one of the most recognizable things on about this level, should be loud enough to add to the fear factor but not too loud so you can hear the monstrous entities behind you, adding to the panic factor
    -Have hospital items like beds and chairs blocking your way instead of items falling from the ceiling. Maybe add hands on the ground that slow you down symbolizing the clumps that can be found on this level (you may need to make the hallway a little wider though)
    -Add turns to confuse the player
    -Add your characters breathing or heartbeat and make it more and more intense as you approach the exit
    -add red flashing lights
    -Maybe add a stamina bar( either for the entire game or only this level).That way the player will be even more panicked having to manage a stamina bar ( add almond water or an energy bar in order to replenish stamina)
    In general, make level"!" a nightmare since its one of the scariest levels in the backrooms

    Definitely ok with hand crafted levels when needed. They are typically higher quality and can definitely help move the story forward.

    this looks amazing! if you want my opinion, I think the levels should be randomly generated because the backrooms is all about mystery, having a set map for each level would make the game repetitive because players could just go straight to the exit without having to really put thought into their strategies especially with a level with no dangerous entities, having the levels be randomly generated adds to the tension, excitement, and fear because you never know what your going to encounter next and you really have to search for the exit having to think of all the possible situations you might get into along the way, but its your game, It would still be awesome with set level maps!

      for example, level ! is only at max 12 km and you could probably reduce that to about 7 km as one side will be full of monsters, and it would be awesome to see glimpses of people coming before you when running down the hall

    Personally, I really like the use of procedural generation since it very much fits with the theme of the backrooms.

    5:54 maybe a mix of procedurally generated bits and some handcrafted levels would be a good compromise. In that note, during the red corridor level, you could put the smiler walking on the walls and ceiling as well as on the floor- maybe in some point the path could be clear for the player but not for the smiler and it could intercept you via some passage on the ceiling or some air duct of sorts further down the level, creating a tense moment where you know danger is nearby but you can't see it while it tries to close in on you.

    this looks great !! personally though i feel like the Run For Your Life level could use a bit more mystery to the entities , maybe try and obscure the sillouette of the smiler so that way only it's face is showing ? they say the thing scarier than whats chasing you is the thing your head makes up , other than that im excited to see when this game comes out !!

    Recommendation:
    Due to your need for story in game, try making the beginning of the level "fixed", as the same for everyone, and then add the procedural part of the game. As far as you walk from the spawn point the game would become randomly generated.

    I just discovered the backrooms like a week ago & I’ve been obsessed with watching the videos ever since.. I’m just waiting for someone to create a real life back room people can visit kinda like an escape room!! I think that’d be so fun especially around Halloween!

    Here’s a recommendation for the smilers.
    Make their smiles bigger, as well as the head (to fit the bigger smile but only if necessary )
    You don’t have to do this considering smilers are found in the dark, but make their heads more humanoid, as a ball shaped head isn’t really that threatening when visible. It’s hard for me to tell exactly but if the smilers have pupils, you can chose to have them on or not but personally me I prefer without them, but that’s up to you as i don’t think It’d make that much of a difference to most people.

    The combination of a great idea, skilled execution, and downright hilarious video editing makes this the highlight of my day. One thing I think would be cool. If you look at Kane Pixel's Backrooms, he has this EEREE soundtrack of obscure bird noise sounding things and feedback. If you could add like a REALLY spooky and unnerving soundtrack, it would really be the icing on the cake. For me, action and stories are portrayed best when they have a soundtrack to fit the vibes trying to be portrayed by the movie/game. Take undertale for example. I know it's a meme, but the EPIC soundtrack seriously makes you feel immersed in the conflicts. Great vid, cool idea

      eh, imo kane pixels backrooms is a lot less scarier than the original wiki one (tho I do think the wiki one is a little overdone now), I dont think the backrooms games need a soundtrack. The absence of one is what makes it good, all you can hear is the ambience of the lights and your own footsteps. gives off an empty feeling.

    Awesome progress dude! Here is a good suggestion: for the “Bacteria” monster in the first level, don’t use the running zombie animation because it doesn’t match well with how they run. I recommend you to check Kane Pixel’s video and take inspiration from there.

    Suggestion: Looking behind you makes you slower, and looking at entities makes them slightly faster, so that when someones getting chased then want to look at what it is and see how close it is, but it will just get closer the more its looked at
    Also, I think the game should be procedurally generated, BUT sometimes levels or parts of the game will be story, like Level 0 could be random, but at some point maybe you would enter a hall which would be how you leave the level, TLDR: Procedural generation but sometimes hand built

    At the true last level, it is theorized that if you go up exactly 100 steps, and jump down the middle, you will noclip back into the real world. You could add this as a small easter egg

    A way to add camera shaking is to just warp the camera up a bit less than a downspeed to normal null and rotating it randomly left and right for 2° for that fall duration... Works 10/10 and you can modify intensity etc.

    Just had a small idea for the smilers in the "Run for your life!" room.
    What if you made the smiler just a large black foggy creature for any sense of a body (Maybe add some shadowy tentacles that they use to drag themselves around) with the face seemingly grinning wider if you turn around and it will purposely speed up like it's playing with you.
    For adding other creatures they can dash through the smiler and when the creature does it twists it self to make room and ripples like water until it reforms. Making the player question there judgement on whether or not it is a threat or hallucination.
    Just a side note but something that would probably mess with players heavily is that if the smiler laughed. Let me explain.
    If the smiler was farther away from the player the laughing would get louder and would continue to the farther away they got but in turn the closer it was it would make its laughing quieter to none. With this the farther in the level the player got the more sounds you could throw into play and amplify them so the player can no longer even hear their own footsteps just to cut them off at a sudden moment and maybe even making a fake exit so when the sound cuts off they will see said fake exit.
    Just to be thrown straight back into the nightmare that the level is and throwing everything back into high gear and maybe even making the red lights break, Claws being pierced through doors, seeing hallucinations of exits but in reality are just room doors until the point the hallways are just exit doors, Talking/whispering, even if one of the creatures was holding anything it to be thrown (out of the way) near the player.
    Nothing actually harmful or deemeable as unfair play towards the player. Just sounds and visuals that can get the adrenaline rush that you may have in that situation.
    Maybe you could even add a special action for just that level for the player to look behind themselves while running. In which it appears near the top right corner of the screen with a small message that says " Peek-a-boo "Friend". . . : )"
    So much for just a "small idea" huh?

    Cant wait for this to drop. As for Level ! I feel like the hallways should be a lot more widened and looking almost like a hospital esque hallways as opposed to a hotel esque hallway. Not only to make it more spacious and terrifying to show for more entities and monsters chasing you, but also to have more room to work with in terms of obstacles or surprise obstacles (such as things flying out of doors and into your way as you run and such)

    I really like the game and in my opinion it is going to be one of the best games about backrooms, the only claim is smiler's model. According to Backrooms Wiki there is nothing known about body structure of smilers ( except their eyes and smile of course), so I hope it is possible to make their models less distinguishable, or may be make their models look like spheres of darkness, so the light won't reflect from them? Idk if it is possible, but I hope these ideas will be useful for development of the game.

    Im glad someone is finally making a good backrooms game, in my opinion having randomly generated levels is a great idea but this games needs to be different right? And have some type of memorable story. A mix and match of both random levels and hand crafted ones really adds to the depth of this game, also i'd suggest some scary cutscenes when going into a new level to help us actually experience what the main character feels.
    Nonetheless amazing job!

    Level ! "Run for your life" is supposed to be a hospital corridor. It has hospital beds and other hospital equipment that blocks your path. It should be reworked and made just a little wider.

    I love this! My main issue with it though is that the entities dont do the lore justice. The smiler shouldnt really be visible other than its eyes in my opinion, and i think some of the movements could be improved. However, the game looks amazing and im excited for it to be released.

    Wow, Level ! looked quite different from how it started here. A change for the best; the original looks way too narrow to have much going for it gameplay-wise. And Level 922whatever looks pretty different here too, including the pillar in the centre instead of there being nothing in the centre. Also The End was gonna have a different way to get to the next level originally? I guess you would have had to search for one tape hidden instead of collecting many.

    For the pool rooms, you should try and add some refraction from the light hitting the water. Would make it look much more natural.
    Also for the running motion, you should capture the camera shake from you running instead of the usuall strolling.

    I think some levels make sense for procedurally generated but others aren’t as “infinite” so building them from scratch also makes sense for those! But it’d be super cool for like the game to like update every so often with a new level or so

    You should add objectives and side quests in each level so the goal isn't just to find the exit, and so people will stay in more interesting levels like the pool rooms even after finding the exit as to 100% the game

      Procedural generation is much better in my personal opinion, since it could fit the randomness and seemingly infinite scale of the backrooms structure much better, knowing theres always sth new and odd to be found within the levels

    Recommendation:
    if you plan on adding other levels later on, maybe make it, so that you can chose which level to start from (once you have already unlocked it) in the main menu, so that you don’t have to play through the whole game again and again, just to check out the update

    Idea: Make objectives on the levels so people know what to do when entering the first level or the next, Therefore, one of the objectives should be like: "Record as much data as you can to bring it back to the people that aren't here." You should also add equipable items, such as: A camera, a lead pipe (maybe), an some other stuff you can find randomly on the grounds in the backrooms.
    Edit: Maybe the first idea kind of sucks. But the second idea, I thought would be really good. The first and every level objective should be to just find the exit. Now that I think about it, the first idea really sucked.

      I forgot what level it is, but it actually has objectives, it looks like an arcade, and, is the only confirmed exit of the backrooms, when you enter the level, you receive a red button and a sheet of paper, the red button, when pressed, will instantly teleport you back to the arcade level, and it doesn't matter in what level you may be, it will always work, and about the sheet of paper, it is your pass out of the backrooms, it is a todo challenge list from the backrooms, like: kill certain entity. Or go to level X. Or grab certain item from certain level. And, once you complete all the challenges and go back there with the button, you notice that a glass door has opened, and once you cross it, you wake up where you entered the backrooms.

    I like how the game looks! The levels look cool, and so do the entities! Some suggestions:
    -Add a sanity bar and almond water to replenish your sanity. (Or maybe just make an overlay)
    -Add Yourself as an Easter egg
    -Maybe add voicelines?
    -Add SpOoKy Ambience
    -Add a helpful entity, like the "partypooper" or "Aiden"
    -Add a option to disable the vhs affect
    -Different running animations for the entities in groups, such as the partygoers, so they don’t look the same when they run
    Those are all my suggestions! Also that "secret" level that you might add later? I recognized it as level 94. I hope that gets added! Great job with the game, Fancy!😁

      Not a health bar because every entity kills you instantly.
      Instead add a mental health/sanity bar.
      The more time you spend in the backrooms the more you will hear random noises (like the cavenoises from Minecraft) you will breath faster, the camera will move more when that happens. Your vision will be different.
      You will get a speed boost so it would be important to have your sanity bar very low in certain situations.
      And if your sanity goes to 0, you die. And the lonely thing saving you is that almondwather.

      @@titan4125 i feel like health bars and things like that ruin the immersion. should some sort of indication that your health/sanity/whatever is running out be there, i think that it should be a sort of darkness that takes over the screen.
      if you want an exact example of things like this, look up the indicator for when the neighbor is close to you in hello neighbor.

    -When you fall into a Hole in the Pitfalls, you get teleported into a Neighbourhood (Like the one in "Backrooms - Pitfalls") with an Entity that Mimics Voices (Also like the one in "Backrooms - Pitfalls")

    Suggestion:
    I think you should make the camera shake a little bit more after you run for about 3, so it’s more realistic on how a person would run away from something or being stressed out (you should also make the camera sway a little bit when your looking around corners).
    Suggestion 2: I think all monsters should have multiple attacks (it doesn’t have to be all monsters since you have to do how many levels? … 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 levels… that’s a lot, but I think all monsters should have at least 2 different attacks, maybe for the first Entity it should have claw swipe, and he could have a smash attack but he stops moving when he does that move, and he can have more attacks or moves if you want (and just funzies, Backrooms monsters could have a finisher, for the entity I’ve mentioned before could grab the player, the player could be looking at the entity and you could see black or gray goo covering the screen (a reference on how Kane Pixies entity is a type of bacteria) and then the entity opens its mouth and chomps on the player…. Okay I’m sorry but 2 more suggestion until you upload ur next Backrooms video… don’t worry their short)
    Suggestion 3: After a monster kills you there should be a death screen, it could be similar to Poppy Playtime’s death scenes and there can be messages or it could just be a black screen with weird and creepy sounds in the background… you know background sounds a lot like Backrooms
    Suggestion 4: after completing a level, or leaving the game after completing a level, it should be like the title screen you showed us at the end but for the next level we are going to next… okay 1 more sugg- JK, this is long enough

    Suggestion: Add level 52 "The School Halls", even though technicly the partypoopers dont exist anymore, it would still be cool to see them in the game, :)

    Suggestion: Add colonies and objects such as almond water, weapons, smiler repellants etc. so it would turn the game more into a survival horror. In the wikidot canon there is also a military-like organisation called Major Explorers Group (M.E.G) which helps the wanderers and acts as a sort of "backrooms government". It would be cool if you'd add them as well. Anyways, amazing job man and can't wait to see more.

      @@RealPerson3 Yeah, but M.E.G is the most known group after all. Objects are essential for the game about backrooms in my opinion. And in the colonies you could trade the objects and heal yourself etc. etc.

    I am so glad I found out about you. You're editing is actually really good and you're very clearly passionate about making the game authentic. As for the procedural generation, I'm not entirely sure how that stuff works, but could you just make section that have lore in them generate randomly as well, but just like much rarer than normal sections? Also, about multiplayer, one thing that has always bothered me when people make multiplayer for The Backrooms is that they almost never stay true to the canon when doing it. It literally says on the wiki they there have been no recorded instances of wanderers meeting in Level 0. Then again, it also says that no room in level 0 is the same as another room, and that it just warps space sometimes, which obviously might be a bit much for your random generation lol

    I think levels should be a mix of procedural and handcrafted. That's the best way.

      procedurally generation is super hard. its honestly super impressive as it is with the multiple levels. i made a backrooms vr game with procedural generation and it took a long time to implement.

    So, for your stairs you may want to change it from a stair shape to a ramp shape (the model stays the same just change the collisions) it makes the camera much smoother and won't give people motion sickness. This is actually how a lot of games do stairs

    In my opinion, 100% hand craft them for more juicy lore, but I'm curious if you could have a small element of procedural generation to keep things fresh and scary. Perhaps just changing the order of rooms or have different permutations of each room. If you make the story non linear, this would work.

    the reccomendation i would make would simply be to improve the entities, especially the smiler, instead of being at it's most terrifying in darkness, it could provide it's own, darkening the nearby area untill beyond the glowing face, nothing identifiable remains. this would work best on the run for your life level.
