To add to this theory: "Overflow" could very well be referring to a buffer overflow. For those who don't know, in computing, a buffer overflow is when a part of a computer's data exceeds its specified storage capacity. When this happens, the overflowing data ends up in a different part of the computer, which can cause glitches and weird effects. It could be that the green light is a buffer overflow occurring, overflowing from one instance of the simulation to another one, at a different point in time. This could also explain the time jump that Peter experiences - it could be that he's actually been relocated to a different instance of the simulation that's not in sync with his first one. Even the word "async" fits with this explanation: the time jumps are a result of jumps between instances which are running asynchronously.
There's also the fact that an overflow can reset a value back to 0. When performing additions in binary 1+0 = 1 and 1+1 = 0 (which gives you an extra bit that you need to carry to the next position on the left). So if we have a 3 bit memory slot (just to keep it short and easy) it would go something like this: 000 (0) -> 001 (1) -> 010 (2) -> 011 (3) -> 100 -> 101 -> 110 -> 111. So at 111 we've reached the end, right? So what happens if we add 1 again anyway? Following the same rules as before we loop back to: 000 and have 1 extra bit that should be carried to the next position (if we had 4 bits of room 111 would have become 1000). Not (or incorrectly) handling these overflows in either software or hardware can have very weird effects because it might corrupt something outside of the assigned memory space or cause something to loop over and over.
The fact that The Backrooms try to mimic our reality means that there could be an entity in the form of MatPat that chases you around and shouts, "THE LORE! I HAVE TO SHOW YOU THE LORE!" then kills you is deeply horrifying...
Ahh yes, He chases you around and then he grabs you in a vice like grip. All the while he keeps babbling about everything being simulations, timeloops, layered realities and conspiracies. Saying that random groups of people or fictional charaters are actually possesed by ghosts of children, impostors or AI. Every once in a while he concludes his ramblings and you think you can escape while his maniac gaze loses it's intensity before shouting: "But tHat's juSt A TheoRy, a _ _ _ TheoRy." And then he starts over again with a new possibly contradicting story. You finally losses consiousness out of chock, pain and fear as he peels the skin of your limbs to try and show you the endoskeleton beneath. "But tHat's juSt A TheoRy, a _ _ _ TheoRy."
Kane Pixels has created one of the most original and compelling narratives I’ve ever seen. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal. Add in his superb visuals and you’ve got the best content to come along - in any medium - in years. I hope he continues to expand this story. I’d say that I’d love to see his Backrooms turned into a series of films, but I’d be afraid that a major studio would screw it up. Better to just leave it up to Kane.
He did good, but I did the idea first through the medium of music in my album "the outbreak" a soundcloud exclusive which was probably the origin of a backrooms at all because of my story the DOD magician which is about an entity able to come and go between a backrooms like space fighting these creatures.
@@YahNation Seriously trying to claim the idea of the backrooms as your intellectual property man? That's a bit much. There's always been stories of people going to parallel or warped versions of our own world (Stranger Things is an easy example). Add in video games and glitching into a glitchy mess of a world that is the warped idea of our own human centric spaces isn't exactly much of a reach. You're just someone who had an idea that was similar in essence and didn't capitalize on it.
@@Leopardts Never claimed it as intellectual property, albums exclusive to soundcloud and not copy written to allow other creators to get involved. Backfired that I didnt copywrite it so it belongs to the community now. Moved on from that project years ago, I actually love seeing all the things people create based off the concept album and short novel (which btw was released over a decade ago).
Please tell me I'm not the only one that got super excited for Mat giving a shout out to the Lockpicking Lawyer, it made me feel like I am not alone binge watching any imaginable way to open a lock
I'm not gonna lie, its still mind-boggling how Matpat and his team, constantly deep dives into games or videos to scrap together enough lore, to make a video. And does this on a near weekly basis.
I just imagine the backroom monster keeping matpat alive and letting him roam the backrooms so that if they meet again, it can listen to his new interesting theories about the backrooms after having a boring day walking around.
@@memefied4253 Kane Pixels' version of the Backrooms is better than the Backrooms Wiki version in my opinion. Besides, why explain the lore of something when it straight up just tells you the lore?
I don't think its plausible because the SCP Foundation is collaborative fiction across hundreds of canon stories. Its gonna be like summarizing every single analog horror and/or Alternate Reality Game into a single video, just makes no sense. However, a single canon tho like my favorite Antimemetics division would bw cool
My understanding is that it's caused by the mold that inevitably forms in damp conditions. In addition to that, depleting energy, increased heart rate and dehydration.
honestly this whole idea of reality collapsing in on itself is such an amazing idea so props to kane for doing that but also props to matpat for talking about it and expanding the idea
My theory has always been the backrooms are a barrier between the other dimensions and our world, which are meant to trap lesser monsters by tricking them into thinking they broke through into our world. Building this huge, maze-like creation between dimensions has created some faultlines in our world where the creation isn't properly fastened.
other "instances" of the simulation we live in. if something goes horribly wrong in another simulation, it collapses into the backrooms. The beings who created this simulation were smart enough to include a barrier between simulations, so when one collapses, it collapses into that "midway", instead of into another simulation. But sometimes, this simulation glitches, and part of it turns into a direct reference to the Backrooms, creating "portals".
Async is literally short for asynchronous, so the time thing makes sense. If Ivan knew about time travel with the backrooms when he named his company, it's probably his own nod or in-joke at what started everything.
As a programmer, I think we should keep that in mind for way longer, because the series also has the potential for what async means in programming: processes that happen at the same time (but not necessarily "pace"), but are run on different cores that can still interact with each other :D
This is actually why you remember older games being so high definition. Textures, sprites, anything that was designed to work with a CRT Tele, was specifically designed to look as high def as possible, on those screens, which is why playing those games on newer televisions looks very dated. I recommend looking it up, it's actually very impressive how early video game artists were able to manipulate pixels in such a way.
Interesting fact about the term "overflow": It's a programming term as well. "Integer overflow" occurs when two numbers are added together and the result is larger than the data type can hold, causing the result to wrap around back to the minimum number. It's a very common thing to see programs crash because a careless programmer didn't check for overflow and to see a normal-looking number, say "seconds that this program has been running" loop from "32,767" to "-32,768". If you then feed that garbage number into other areas of the program that are expecting a sane value, it can create all sorts of havoc. Like, oh...if a simulation of reality had a number like "number of rooms" and it suddenly overflowed from a very large number in the billions to a very large NEGATIVE number in the billions because a hacker went and added a whole bunch of new space.
19:42 On google maps, there used to be a 3d image of the backrooms in that very spot if you went into street view. Everyone thought it was just a prank that some kids pulled, but I think it is possible that Kane himself, being a smart kid, put that image there. There was another spot just like it on a coast near the ocean with the same image of the backrooms posted on the street view. I think this could possibly tie into "I had a home once, a manor, overlooking the sea". Edit: They removed the image shortly after so you dont need to go looking for it. There are many videos on youtube though showing what I am talking about.
Is it the one with the big hole in the middle? If so, that one was created by a channel called “Billy le robot” which unless Kane Pixels made that as well, isn’t related.
I think that the different time anomalies and past and future objects in the back rooms proves that it’s a simulation, because if a simulation was created and ran on a computer, everything that will happen is already coded into the simulation. In other words, everything that has and hasn’t happened yet in the world has always been happening concurrently and will happen again infinitely many times
I love how MatPat is keeping the past lores like backrooms a current thing and it's amazing that he doesn't disappoint each time he finds new evidence.
As a massive Greek mythology nerd I can't help but compare the infinite randomly-generated expanse of the Backrooms to the lore of Daedalus' Labyrinth, and specifically the added lore from book 4 of the Percy Jackson series titled Battle of the Labyrinth, which introduced the premise of locations popping up all over the globe where people are falling into the Labyrinth, almost like they no-clipped into the Backrooms.
I think we can all agree that Kane is an absolute genius. I'm nearly 50 yrs old and have seen my fair share of horror/sci-fi movies as well as read many novels of the sort and nothing comes close to the intriguing adventure that Kane takes our minds on while delving into the backrooms. Also a huge bravo to MatPat for his research and breaking it all down for us. Well done to the both of you! 👏 👏 👏
Well,he certainly is talented, but honestly, surprising a 50 year old women, does not a genius make...For all we know, you've got dementia brain already forming. Please, allow the professionals to hand out genius status to others.
So according to MatPat, the Backrooms's bacteria monster actually a red herring. It isn't the real horror lurking in the backrooms; what is the horror is that by simply interacting with the backrooms you allow holes to form in our reality draining into it. And over time those holes will get bigger and more prevalent. Eventually all of our world will simply be sucked into the Backrooms and be assimilated into it, like a home crumbling into the sea.
Sounds like someone is installing too many mods onto their copy of Reality. Remember people, Reality is not a Bethesda game: do NOT install the infinite money mod, it will glitch out your moral compass, and you'll end up with people no-clipping out of Reality and mammoths flying overhead.
I disagree. The bacteria monsters are not a red herring but the focus of a plot twist. So, Matpat and us theorists have focused on the tangible motifs of Kane's backrooms: its fearful entities, its disruption of time and space, and its exploitation by ASYNC. But there's a less-tangible motif: while some of the glitchy videos we see are the symptoms of reality tears (that Simpsons one), others are CLEARLY manipulated by an elusive intelligence, leaving clues and warnings (Autopsy Report, Home_27467). I think, at least right now, that the source of that intelligence is the bacteria. The entities will become the protagonists.
Imagine your in the backrooms and you hear something chasing you, and right as you think you're about to die, it screams, "THE LORE! I NEED TO SHOW YOU THE LORE!"
MatPatRooms just randomly popped into my mind and idk why but it's giving me great joy of the idea where the walls and floor and monsters are just Mat of the Pat and the theories of games, films, food, and style are just everywhere as well. Lol
Actually, the green light symbolizes the love Gatsby feels for Daisy. And even broader, the green light symbolizes the American Dream, that Gatsby reaches and yearns for.
"You have always been here" is a reference to liminality. Liminal images give you the sensation of familiarity even though you have never seen them before. The Backrooms is composed entirely from liminal spaces, making the viewer experience false memories of having been their, i.e. "you have always been here"
@@pizzainc.1465 You might want to check out r/liminalspaces the community grew along side (but separate from) the backrooms as a group to share images that give them that uncanny feeling.
I just learned about the back rooms a few months ago and found it so unsettling but at first didn’t realize why. Then it hit me: It’s very much like dreams I often have. Being in a place that’s familiar but not and they just go on and on with no way out. I wonder if liminal spaces appear in other’s dreams a lot?
@@coleozaeta6344 That’s an interesting point. I think there could be and probably is, a great deal of theory about the meaning of the back rooms and liminal space.
In a general way of how the Backrooms operates, it largely reminds me of the Upside-Down from Stranger Things. In the last bit of the video with the house in real life and in the backrooms, it seems as if they are taking place at the same time, just like how in Stranger things, the Upside down can be happening at the same time as reality. With the vines in the other room, it gives it even more of the vibe. Wasn't sure if this was important, or the maker of the video/lore/concept took inspiration from Strangerthings, etc.
Really, really happy that "I remember" is important. Writing is very important to any story and kane (or one of his associates if he didn't write it) did a phenomenal job with that video and how the statements made by an async employee are presented. One of those videos I just caught myself watching repeatedly because it just flowed well, and felt rather well thought out and intelligent among a mess of repetitive suggestions that bore me in my suggested feed. Kane parsons is a genius, and I can't wait yo continue to see this story unfold.
Well without a team managing all this would be impossible, but mat's definitely not just a voice for these theories, being the face of the channel, there's definitely a lot of work
The backrooms is oddly similar to the Greek myth The Labyrinth. Giant monster that lurks in the halls waiting for food. A seemingly endless maze. Probably has something to do with dead kids. It all checks out
“that is not a person!” so short and simply terrifying. love it! reminds me of the shortest horror story ever told: the last person left on earth… hears a knock at the door.
When you said “stuff that didn’t fit” that reminded me of a scene form the amazing world of gumball where a character was so boring that she was sent to a place where mistakes and stuff was.
@@markxnex973 Stop preaching on a backrooms lore video please. Something that Matpat missed about Peter Tench, when he initially comes back after disappearing for months, no one recognizes him and he doesn't know where he is.
You know how they should have dealt with Peter? "Here's ten million dollars, full retirement and benefits, the US Government will be sending along a Colonel to explain to your family that you did something to preserve national security. Sorry for the trouble, thank you for your service."
If they try to convince the government that the backrooms are safe to invest in and use they can't tell the same government about the guy they lost there for a few months and who just suddenly reappeared. So they "had to" make him disappear.
My thinking is, instead of the Backrooms being part of a simulation, is it's the graveyard of shattered realities. When the universe breaks apart, the bits that fall off end up in the Backrooms, until eventually the entire universe shatters and ends up there
The video "I Remember" is the one that backs this theory up the best. Whether the Backrooms is sentient or not the voice is still speaking as if from its POV and the implications are obvious. Everything eventually winds up in the backrooms, even when the "Eternal Ghost" of your dimension is gone the Backrooms has absorbed them in a mirrored fashion thus it "Remembers" them.
I wonder if this is just a local distortion event relative to planets, or if the distortion spreads to other celestial bodies. I don't imagine it would ever get big enough to swallow huge swaths of outer space or even stars, right?
@@jjbarajas5341 By definition, the Backrooms are infinite in size. Thus they can swallow the entire universe. Even if they are not infinite, if they are constructed as it goes, they will swallow everything eventually. I believe more in the theory that the first "failed test" was the first bullet hole into reality... and then it started to stretch infinitely. Even if ASync did nothing more and tried to SCP it, it is too late. The rips have a cascading effect.
Overflow could be a reference to a programming/calculation error that occurs when the data type used to store data was not large enough to hold the data. This would make sense from the backrooms being a simulation angle and seems to imply an overflow error in time could be causing all the wonky time shifting stuff.
The book Hawkins’s Hallway by Neil Shusterman (I think) featured a random number algorithm that once incorporated into a machine, would teleport the machine to a random location on Earth and give off energy to the area. Maybe some random number algorithms were plugged into Async’s portal and would cause random openings to appear around earth?
More Hawkings Hallway stuff, a character named Vince came in at the end of the book to show other characters a puzzle cube of sorts, while he was glowing GREEN. There was a house mentioned to be at the bottom of the sea, and the book featured a house that got teleported to the bottom of Loch Ness. Almost certainly unrelated but interesting nonetheless.
I really like these kinda concepts, like the backrooms started on 4chan as just an image, which someone attached a short story to just explaining the image... Now there are so many people who collaborated to expand the idea into something huge and super detailed. It's just really cool to see how artists interpret the story and move it along. These short films are wonderful and this is the kind of horror genre im obsessed with lol ❤️ ty for the theory
Something huge and inconsistent. There is no tag team 'lore', its just random fan made concepts by 9 year olds, and meme posters. No more information than when it began.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar well Kane gave his backrooms lore, but that's just 1 person, but there are still different backrooms like one where each level is different and not office space and those are community-made, you can check that out on a channel called Broogli, unfortunately to some people tho it contains entities, but imo it's more scary and fun than being alone lost at a space if we were to take it to rl
I love Kanes interpretation on the backrooms so much, before it was an open idea for anyone to add onto with their own entities and levels (it still totally is) and to be honest it was a bit messy but he’s made such a beautiful video series with a backstory/story line that wasn’t there before it’s really xool
Additional theory: since the "I remember" video is canon, the narrator from the video could be Ivan Beck talking about the backrooms, and the internal ghost could be the bacteria slowly infecting and taking over things, people, and time in the backrooms. This is why I love the channel and the backroom series. There's just so much to look at and consider, and it's beautifully artistic as well :D
I honestly thought it was Peter considering the fact that he still has a camera and could be referring to his time in the backrooms and what he has learned from it
Especially when he says that he had a house on the sea could be his life outside the backrooms, the sky went dark could refer to when he went into the backrooms, and when the sea took his house it could be referring to how the backrooms and Asynchrony ruined his life
@@charleswilliams5252 I agree with this also because it’s at the eternal ghost and it has weird effects on time so he could be stuck in never-ending loop here reliving the back rooms for ever
I expected something along the lines of monsters in a yellow, endless set of rooms. What I got instead was an expertly crafted story and lore about the universe.
I love whenever MatPat covers youtube ARG’s, they’re infinitely interesting and it’s so cool to watch a familiar face give his interpretations. Crossing my fingers for a Marble Hornets series on the channel, it’d definitely be one for the ages-and for the corny jokes.
The video Overflow could be referencing integer overflow in computers, where inputting too large a number causes the computer to "overflow" back to a negative number, and the same thing works in reverse, too. If the Backrooms follow video game/computer simulation logic, this could be why time is unstable in this series. This fits really well with MatPat's time loop theory, which I'm sure everyone caught on to, but I wanted to mention it anyway.
Not in the topic, but i absolutely LOVE polish lvl. 2 "the nostalgic housing estate". It's typical polish housing estate from 70s and 80s. I highly recommend to check it out.
Maybe the Backrooms exist outside of time and space entirely. It would explain the whole time travel weirdness and how someone can enter in one place and time and upon "leaving" end up in a completely different time and place even if they have only spent a relatively small length of time inside.
I thought the backrooms was unexplainable but now we're casually sitting here to Matpat and his team explaining the whole entire backrooms. Edit: TYSM FOR ✨️443 LIKES✨️!!!
I mean with all the video game/software terms of even the original backrooms, an assumption can be made of the "simulation hypothesis" scenario pretty easily and the Kane Pixels version doesn't really contradict that either, so you can somewhat explain a solid theory fairly easily
That thing with "house that fell in to the sea" reminded me about book "Piranesi" by Susanna Clarke. It's a Backrooms-style novel about Piranesi who is stuck in probably infinitely big palace reminding Wersal or some similar place, who doesn't know who he is and who did he get there there. Pat should read this novel!
Just saying, an actual movie or a game based on this would be amazing. I hope the author gets the right push, comes in contact with the right people, and makes a masterpiece as a successor or a complement to this awesome mystery/channel.
It's been done before, look into Guilty Gear. Basically is the same concept of a "mathematical layer of the universe" called the Backyard. IIRC Blazblue also has the same concept called the Azure
I could see a game, but an actual movie probably wouldn’t happen for the backrooms isn’t owned by one person and is instead more of a community project similar to SCP
You should really read house of leaves. I haven't yet, but I know the synopsis and "secrect meaning" of it and it's really similar to the idea of the backrooms
I love how when Kane made the movie, The Backroom drastically gained popularity. fact that many channels about The Backroom appeared regardless movies and games
No, it really hurts. These videos, especially from a creator like MatPat, have introduced a large young audience to the community that was already built. Growth is by no means a bad thing, but the speed of growth to such a large audience through things like Kane's interpretation has caused many to believe that the idea originated with him. This invalidates the actual people in the community and it feels as if our niche was stripped away. We needed to grow slowly like SCP.
I personally don't know about the simulation theory, because I think it just doesn't fit with the series, but I LOVE the theory of the whole world getting sucked into the Backrooms. It adds another layer of cosmic horror to this already amazing universe
This explains everything. The third test was done the year I was born. No wonder I'm obsessed with the backrooms. I've been trying to go back all this time.
Hey Matpat! I've recently watched a really cool anolog horror series called Vita Carnis, and I think it would be perfect for a theory! It really doesn't have enough attention, and it deserves more. It would be a perfect series to do a theory on! It has a creepy premise, hidden frames, and lots of hidden lore! Please consider doing a theory on Vita Carnis!
A note on Overflow, which may have been addressed already, when a program attempts to input an interger over its maximum possible input, it can go all the way back to the maximum negative interger. which could be the time going back to the beginning.
@trainion9626 in a sense. The most recognized instance of this is Gandhi in the Civilization games. Where he gains more points into pacificism each day/round. But after so long an Integer overflow occurs and he goes from the Most peaceful (the highest integer) to the Most Aggressive (the lowest integer) in that instance. Now if Time is the Integer value in this instance. It stands to reason that once overflow occurs it would rebound all the way back to the beginning. But that is assuming time is the Integer experiencing overflow. Not rooms or people or some other unseen value
No one has ever explained the cause of the Galactic Big Bang: why did an object of infinite mass compressed into an infinitely tiny space explode to form our present Universe? Especially since it appears to have been a unique event.
To lend credence to your “video game cut content” theory, oftentimes interior areas of a video game are actually just transporting the player to a space way high up in the sky that can’t be seen from the usual game area. Famous example being GTA San Andreas. So Kane’s camera falling back out way up in the sky kinda checks out
I remember october 1989. I was in the sixth grade and it was my birthday and I brought a cake to school to share with my class, and everyone was nice to me because I gave them cake. I had a trapper keeper with kittens on it.
I'll bet you anything that Matpat just turned on random youtube channels while researching theories for sound but accidentally learned way too much more than he should on padlocks.
These are without a doubt my favorite lore videos. The entire backrooms story is set up so well for a Netflix stranger thingsesque multi season series.
Matpat, remember the door in pitfalls? Well I think it’s a different level. There is a back rooms level at which is a grassy hill plain, each hill holds a house, similar to peppa pig’s house. I can’t remember the exact level, but I feel that would make sense because doors transport you to other levels in the world of the back rooms. If you see this, do you agree? Or is it too far of a stretch…?
I had a thought here, as when the weird “I remember” voicover said that his home was swallowed by the sea, he might be from the Roanoke colony. All the colonists disappeared, then eventually the island was underwater so no one could find any evidence. Maybe Kane will use something with that, like the colony disappearing was the first instance of no-clipping. If Kane ever has a huge early-american colony showing up in the backrooms, I called it.
2:46 oh god Mat’s trying to organize a disjointed timeline again, *early fnaf flashbacks ensue*. I will admit, I have faith in Kane that he does have a fleshed out story (unlike Scott) so I don’t think backrooms will reach fnaf levels of mind numbness.
This was a great video! I've always thought The Backrooms was skinny on the back story and I really do appreciate it. Changing the subject suddenly for brevity only, my son and I were talking this morning while I was driving him to school. His name is Aiden and he just loves your channel. At any rate, we were wondering about the gum in Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory. Experimental, of course, but the one that turned Violet Beauregard into a giant blueberry was supposedly a "Four course dinner", complete with the (at least) psychosomatic feeling of the food and the actual flavor of the food experienced by the chewer. However, were these sensations purely psychosomatic for the chewer? Or were they, by virtue of the chewer being filled with blueberry juice and things "always going wrong when they get to the dessert", truly food somehow manifested via the gum and--therefore--a potential answer to world hunger? Hopefully you can help us solve this mystery! Good luck!

This could also explain the time jump that Peter experiences - it could be that he's actually been relocated to a different instance of the simulation that's not in sync with his first one. Even the word "async" fits with this explanation: the time jumps are a result of jumps between instances which are running asynchronously.
ah yes the classic buffer overflow hack. maybe SCP overflowed and gave us backrooms.
underrated
that is really smart thinking
There's also the fact that an overflow can reset a value back to 0. When performing additions in binary 1+0 = 1 and 1+1 = 0 (which gives you an extra bit that you need to carry to the next position on the left).
So if we have a 3 bit memory slot (just to keep it short and easy) it would go something like this: 000 (0) -> 001 (1) -> 010 (2) -> 011 (3) -> 100 -> 101 -> 110 -> 111.

It is designed to look familiar to places/things in our world to trick said lesser monsters

Backrooms coded in javascript that's why it so buggy xd
If Ivan beck watched the video and chose not to open a portal to the backrooms what would happen?
I love how the models are fairly low poly count but the combination of textures and the VHS filter makes it look high quality, it's impressive
Don’t understand anything you just said
@@kian3527 the models are low detailed but the texture is high quality, and mixed with the vhs filter it looks really good
Interesting fact about the term "overflow": It's a programming term as well.
This is really clever!! And the wrapping around also explains the time loop
Well it leads to a crash most of the time

So according to MatPat, the Backrooms's bacteria monster actually a red herring. It isn't the real horror lurking in the backrooms; what is the horror is that by simply interacting with the backrooms you allow holes to form in our reality draining into it. And over time those holes will get bigger and more prevalent. Eventually all of our world will simply be sucked into the Backrooms and be assimilated into it, like a home crumbling into the sea.
Honestly I'm kinda scared I'm a teenager and scared to death is this gonna happen
The idea of the universe falling into itself and becoming a mess of illogical hallways and warped creations is honestly a bit terrifying.

WHY ARE YOU EVERYWHERE

The fact that we can even tell MatPat by the sound of his BREATHING if we had to is astounding, truly spectacular.
Oh my gosh, at first I didn’t think so- but now I think you’re right
well he is in a closet so-
Additional theory: since the "I remember" video is canon, the narrator from the video could be Ivan Beck talking about the backrooms, and the internal ghost could be the bacteria slowly infecting and taking over things, people, and time in the backrooms.

The video Overflow could be referencing integer overflow in computers, where inputting too large a number causes the computer to "overflow" back to a negative number, and the same thing works in reverse, too. I mean with all the video game/software terms of even the original backrooms, an assumption can be made of the "simulation hypothesis" scenario pretty easily
and the Kane Pixels version doesn't really contradict that either, so you can somewhat explain a solid theory fairly easily

Well done, MP, well done!
XD
14:35 nice “Phineas and Ferb” reference.
I'd love to see MatPat's take on some of the newer Backrooms videos, like the "The Oldest View" sequence. The Rolling Giant is hella creepy.
Shout out to LPL. The man does lock ASMR with that chill voice. He sounds so pleasantly surprised about everything.
The MatPat/LPL crossover: "So I've cracked open the lore. To prove this was not a fluke, let's do it again."
Yeah
I rather roguelife this in my Switch than IRL…
The Cube movies are similar to the Backrooms.
It’s crazy how A-sync only explored a little part of the backrooms but found 2 level and there’s trillions of more. We have seen 4 different levels.
I was just binging MatPat’s Backrooms theory videos YESTERDAY, and then the VERY NEXT DAY, he uploads another Backrooms theory video!
He knows.
He's watching, waiting.
@@KimdraStBiryukova He’s always watching, always observing for something to make a new theory on.

I love how when Kane made the movie, The Backroom drastically gained popularity. fact that many channels about The Backroom appeared regardless movies and games
Yeah to the point where mattpatt thought Kane invented the concept…
No, it really hurts. These videos, especially from a creator like MatPat, have introduced a large young audience to the community that was already built. Growth is by no means a bad thing, but the speed of growth to such a large audience through things like Kane's interpretation has caused many to believe that the idea originated with him. This invalidates the actual people in the community and it feels as if our niche was stripped away. We needed to grow slowly like SCP.
Never thought I'd see the day where Matpat shouts out LockPickingLawyer.
5:30 I KNEW he looked familiar!
The phineas and ferb reference is amazing. Thank you mat for incorporating our childhood into your videos always !
"Perry the Platypus?!"
The waffle house has found its new host?
I personally don't know about the simulation theory, because I think it just doesn't fit with the series, but I LOVE the theory of the whole world getting sucked into the Backrooms. It adds another layer of cosmic horror to this already amazing universe
I’ve always loved the backrooms and watching These theories has sparked my interest again

So a paradox?
@trainion9626 in a sense. The most recognized instance of this is Gandhi in the Civilization games. Where he gains more points into pacificism each day/round. But after so long an Integer overflow occurs and he goes from the Most peaceful (the highest integer) to the Most Aggressive (the lowest integer) in that instance. Now if Time is the Integer value in this instance. It stands to reason that once overflow occurs it would rebound all the way back to the beginning. But that is assuming time is the Integer experiencing overflow. Not rooms or people or some other unseen value
@@TabledNaCl So in time time will collapse on itself and the universe will go kaput
So Kane’s camera falling back out way up in the sky kinda checks out
Wait where do you go in San Andreas to get transported into the sky??
I remember october 1989. I was in the sixth grade and it was my birthday and I brought a cake to school to share with my class, and everyone was nice to me because I gave them cake. I had a trapper keeper with kittens on it.
14:44 makes me wonder how many other references MatPat made in his videos without explaining. Glad I caught this one at least.
Yesssss I found someone else who noticed the reference to the best and funniest character in all of tv.
I'll bet you anything that Matpat just turned on random youtube channels while researching theories for sound but accidentally learned way too much more than he should on padlocks.
Welcome to the unknown join us ♾️♾️
These are without a doubt my favorite lore videos.
9:03 the horror in his voice makes my heart drop like i know this is fake but i just cant help but feel bad 😭
I hope I’m in this one for the long run
A backrooms possible connection to Omega Mart would be so cool!!! Crossover episode!!!!
Good luck!
