I think what makes DuPont so bloody brilliant and a cut above is unlike other incredible talents like etzebeth or savea, is how he is brilliant in EVERY facet of the game. Left foot box kick, right foot box kick, left and right handed passing, defensive work, offensive work, strength, agility, spatial awareness. All of these assets DuPont is outstanding. Other players fall off in some key areas. From a Saffa, DuPont is undoubtedly the best.
Shattered Leinster fan here !! But Toulouse were amazing especially DuPont , Leinster don’t have a unique player like him . Match was amazing , they had it with 30 secs to go but that drop goal went wide ! Shock horror ! ( we all think Sexton would not have missed it 😱 but we re not allowed mention him any more he’s retired ! . In time we ll see they played an unbelievable French team with maybe best player ever on top form , . Reaching final was great, playing so well and “ nearly winning” is not what we want ( loosers ) but I think we have to realise that getting to final was an achievement and loosing to that Toulouse team is no disgrace !
@@ytevysbhtb Leinster restricted his attack very well, but he adapted, and his defence, while less spectacular, was very efficient, like N'Tamack. Their decision making, their rugby brain showed theit lucidity lasted the full 100 minutes.
In a final game , take your points . A game of fine lines , two very tough teams , both defences were even balanced , attack was even but the breakdown Toulouse had the upper hand all game long . Mistakes , Leinster made two many , that I think won the game for Toulouse . Congratulations to them .
As a Toulouse fan I saw Leinster offensively weaker then last years. In the last seasons when we lost against Leinster, they always came with 3 or 4 new high quality combinations specially for the match and they always score some tries thanks to this combinations (often on some touch in our 5 meters). This year nothing comparable. And when the back-line attacked their transmissions were less accurate, the timings less good, they made more forward then usual, it is like the machine lacked oil. Sexton aura and science is maybe still missing... As his magic boot, because Leinster kicking game was in the normality standards. Not bad but nothing special. I also thing that, like La Rochelle, Toulouse managed to get (a little) in the head of the Irish side.
Leinster fan. Toulouse won fair and square. We don’t have a god given right to the champions cup. They didn’t choke or blow a lead so it doesn’t hurt so bad. But maybe I’m just used to it now? Last year was agony.
Just wondering if there’s an element of Leinster struggling to chase games and hold out in the bigger matches because they are so dominant in domestic games that they don’t need to. Also think that both teams marshalled the opposition 9’s really well but it affected Leinster more as they rely on quick ball more than Toulouse who are happy to be drawn into an arm wrestle.
Leinster dominated the game, but failed to take their chances... Dupont was the difference, he was always there to stop Leinster from getting ahead; no doubt in my mind, his injury robbed France of a RWC!
We don't need Owen Farrell, we have Frawley who has never been given a chance by Cullen. Give him the same game time as the Byrnes have got and he will thrive and prosper and challenge Crowley for the Irish ten shirt which Crowley needs.
Leinster don’t deviate too much from their game plan, they want to attack and score tries (all teams do I suppose), but what that does I think is allow their opponent to devise a plan to nullify them. I think Leinster should have taken more kicks at goal on Saturday, possibly kicked more from open play, something that Toulouse would have been so primed for.
100% the attack has seemed blunt lately. Recognising that, the decision not to kick all of those penalties seems a big issue. Sure, it's easy to second-guess after the game, but where was the leadership on the field to call for some kicks at goal when it really did seem clear that Plan A was not working? How many penalty kicks were passed up?
Every year before the start of the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup, The EPCR asks all Clubs to submit their 41 Man Squads. The Match Day 23 Squad that the Bulls selected for their QF Champions Cup Match against the Saints, was part of the Bulls' original 41 Man Squad. So I really don't know why or how The EPCR had an issue with the Bulls team selection.
Because it was such a heavily rotated side for a quarter final. It wasn’t a pool stage game or even a regular season game in the URC. The fact it was a big knockout match is why it sat uncomfortably with people.
@alfredreynolds5 I hear you. Don't forget that in the Round of 16 of this year's Champions Cup, (a knockout game) Lyon lost 59 - 19 away to the Bulls and that Lyon side was also a heavily rotated side, yet The EPCR said nothing or made nothing about it after that game. I just wonder where the consistency is with regards to the "Issue" from The EPCR.
Given how close the gme was, I do not think you can single out one unique reason why Leinster lost. This is a bag of things, taht you pointed out very pertinently I think. There is also, something I wonder, in terms of philosphy or cultural differencies. I can fairly state that, as a French, improvisation and considering when not to listen to hierarchy when I think they are wrong is just a natural thing we do (not saying we are better or worse than others by the way), while respecting structure and established plans until the end seems to be a more given behaviour in the anglosaxon culture (again, not saying this is better or worse). My wonder then is, how much does it plays in this type of game where you have to adapt to what the opposition is bringing ? In very specific example, was not to kick at the post if the plan has always been not to an obvious thing for Leinster, and what appeared as an obvious flaw for us specators is actually just them being proffesionnals in their minds? No strong feelings on this one, just wondering =)
Hi all. I watched so many YT reviews talking about IF Leinster has done this or IF Leinster has done that or if the drop goal was in and so....The fact can be also that Toulouse has just countered Leinster plans. We agree that with "IFS", we can remake the world. Do not get me wrong, Leinster could have won the game however Toulouse is very clinical and make the most of every mistake of the opponent. Do not forget that playing in the Top 14 means playing an European championship match every weekend. To conclude, I'd just like to highlight Stade Toulousain's performance and not just blame Leinster's performance. I follow Stade Toulousain regularly, and I have to admit that this year's team is virtually unplayable.
The question is now if Leinster can now raise themselves for the URC title. If they don't succeed "Operation Leinster" will be a complete flop which will be sad to see considering all the hype that has surrounded this team. They certainly can win it but only if they field a full strength team in every game and be 100% clinical. However, the neighbours in Munster (another team in red and looking very good) will have something to say about that!
I disagree I think Leinster could have but not should have won against LAR. LAR shows similar mental resolve like the Boks in the WC to refuse getting beaten. I also disagree that JN defense focus structure is hampering their attack. Sexton was the key to made their attack fire and i am not seeing it with the Byrnes bros. On the day the best team won the last 3 finals. I love the humanity/humility of Leo Cullen, but he has a soft underbelly and certainly does not put the fire in the players belly and mind. So they do need an eccentric strong leader as captain like Sexton was and Doris is not it. Losing Sexton was a double blow. When it comes to coach/captain/flyhalf, Munster is ticking all the boxes for me over Leinster currently.
Great match but glad the Irish cheats lost. Ireland set new World Record in 6 nations v Wales of 106 penalize able mistakes, ref Andreas Piardi Italy. Beating previous record of 79 set by NZ in W Cup 2019 v Ireland ref Nigel Owens. To the rest of the World, keep on beating the Irish cheats ! Next year Lions v Australia you are going to have of the biggest cheats in the history of World Sport against each other, namely Joe Schmidt v Andy Farrell. All the NZ coaches did rugby a huge dissevice as where ever they went they intreduced the NZ way of combining quality rugby with cheating rugby. Funny thing is, it wasn't even Dupont's best match. In comparison of what we're used to see from him, his match was average

It's that mindset that will keep Ireland ever getting past a WC quarter final...One player does not make a winning team...

Oh what a difference a day makes. Seriously though, Mccarthys try - why was it disallowed? And lowes? I cant find the replays anywhere.

to give Leinstter some credit...they didn't allow a try in 80 minutes against a high scoring ST...and almost won it in 79th min...congrats to ST
