Hey Zack love this video, I've probably watched it 20 times. I am having a little trouble setting my Lambertron's in the exact sweet spot. I have them close but am having trouble dialing in a perfect sound with my helix. Any advice? Are you measuring from the pole pieces or the flat part of the top of the pickup, and are you pushing down at the last fret? SDG
Sorry I missed this comment! I struggled to get the sweet spot too. I measure by pressing down on the last fret of the guitar, then use a digital caliper from the top of the string to the top of the pickup magnet. Hope that helps!
@@ZachBrobstMusic The standard way to measure is from the bottom of the string to the top of the pickup below it so that the thickness of the string is not included in your measurement. You only want to measure the gap between them in order to make those measurements of value to others who may not have the same strings you have.
I'm getting ready for a build with Scott McDonald at Seventh Day Guitars, and I've been bouncing between using the Lambertrons and the TV Jones Setzer Signatures. This video may have sealed the deal on the Lambertrons. Great work! Love your vids, as well as your WT patch selections (I kept saying, "I have that one. I have that one, too. Why don't mine sound that good? Must be the player.")
Nice! I've not tried the Setzer pickups but I assume they're great. The Lamber'Trons feel very humbucker-y if you're not a huge Filter'Tron fan. Thanks for the compliment! I always think other guitarists sound better than me too. 😂
Lambertones have less punch to them in my opinion. The power'trons have more "oomph" and they feel like humbuckers. Whereas the lambertrons have a humbucker sound but they don't have the same feel. Hopefully that's helpful and not confusing. 😂@@lcglazer
Hey dude! Wilkinson roller bridge! It was a solid upgrade for the guitar. BTW - Kurtis removed the exclusion on using my link for the discount so if you use the link in the video description you'll get 10% off the pickups!
unfortunately I still dont know how to solder. I thought you were going to say I just unplugged my original pickups and plugged the new ones in. I dont know if there are any downsides to this but pretty sure that make trying pickups a lot more accessible for people like me
Hey dude! I wouldn't be too intimidated to try soldering out. You can get a cheap soldering iron off Amazon for less than $20 and it just takes a little time and concentration. I'm entirely self taught too and if you get stuck/hung up you can call and ask Kurtis questions!
Great review Zach! Did they replace the Blacktops in that Gretsch? How would you describe the differences between the two (or whatever else you had in there)? Stock wiring or has that been upgraded as well? Thanks again!
Hey Matt! I meant to mention in the review its all stock wiring and pots! The pickups did replace the Hilo'Tron's inside of the guitar originally. I actually really loved the Hilo'Trons. Tons of clarity, really compressed and midrangey. Definitely two different worlds of pickups though. The Lamber'Trons miss out on some of that "growl" that Filtertrons have but make up for it with this really chimey, sparkly and balanced tone.
Got TVJ pickups in my guitars. Would boosting 700-800K in the mids with a good EQ pedal provide more of the punch and warmth that the Lambertrons have?
Yup - absolutely. Something inside of that 6-10k range will help bring in some presence as well to help them come to life. I always felt like the TV Jones were OK, love the mid range growl, but lacked that "something"
Still weighing ha…how do you compare output/breakup between the Cremas and Lambertrons? Looks like they’re rated the same on Lambertones website. Also do you think there would be any pickup balance issues if I did a Crema neck/Grinder bridge? Thanks Zach.
Hey again!@@SonicSanctum21 Output/breakup on Cremas/Lambertrons is VERY similar. Honestly, they're pretty similar pickups in my opinion. Lambertones is really mindful about volume output between different pickup types so I don't think you'd notice a balance issue!
what is the first profile used in sound sample #1 ?? I see the "Stranger Sounds" but I can't find any patch that is called that by Brian carl. Any help please?? Thanks!
I can ask Kurtis! I know my affiliate works on the site for all products and originally the Lamber'trons were excluded but since it's been so long since they were released maybe that's changed.
I truly think these pickups will elevate that electromatic market so much. The 5622T plays incredibly well and with some light modification plays like a $2,000 guitar.
Great review on these Zach. I've been waiting for these to come out to replace my filtertrons in my G2622. Hopefully, they sound as good as you sounded in this video.
Hey Dominic - in my opinion the Lamber'Trons are going to be less compressed than the classics but have a bit more power to them. I've always felt the classics were a bit weak feeling and the Lamber'Trons feel more humbucker-ish. That said, I think the Lamber'Trons are more in line with the Power'Trons but with more clarity
I'm really digging Filtertron style pickups lately and these sound great. BTW, I bought that same soldering kit from Amazon a few years back. It's been a workhorse for all of my guitar electronic work.
Hey Trevor. I think they're very similar. The biggest difference is that I think these have a little more "bite" in them, especially in the midrange. I also feel like the highend cuts more than the cremas too but they're similar in overall compression, response and feel when playing.
"the Lamber'Tron" $405.00 per set for Electromatic mount "LT-1" Nickel covers and connection kit to make them solderless. Sound great but not inexpensive.
Wish I recorded a A/B comparison but they are very different sonically. The stock Gretsch pups had a lot more compression and mid range snarl, the Lamber'Trons sound more like the Cremas (low output PAF, lots of clarity, mild compression) but with more pushed mid range.
Nice little throwback to Cornerstone at 2:53. 👌
Sometimes you gotta do a good ole' throwback to Cornerstone!
These sound killer!
Thanks Sooze!
This was just so very Cool. Thankyou. Gretsch is stunning and sounds amazing.
Thank you for watching!

Honestly I love the power'trons! Great pickups. More a "humbucker" type feel with a lot of the clarity of filter'trons@@lcglazer
right so if the Lambertrons are like humbuckers, does that make them very close to powertrons? what are their differences?

Hey Zach,
Is the coupon for the pickups still available?
I can ask Kurtis! I know my affiliate works on the site for all products and originally the Lamber'trons were excluded but since it's been so long since they were released maybe that's changed.
I just checked and there is still an exclusion on the discount code for these pickups
Nice sounding pickup, but tv Jones absolutely just as nice at a lower price. Reminds me of a tv classic/classic plus set.
Sweet video!
Thanks!
They’re currently sold out, is there any way that I can get a hold of them?
Hey there! I think there is a reputable seller on Reverb that has them!
Gotta go buy another Gretsch to put these in. My Droff Penguin doesn't need anything, so I think an Electromatic is in order!
I truly think these pickups will elevate that electromatic market so much. The 5622T plays incredibly well and with some light modification plays like a $2,000 guitar.
So I love the sound but man I am missing the growl and “kerrang” from typical filtertrons. Guess I need a second Gretsch to put these in 😂
Thats how I felt initially as well! Super incredible pickups but miss some of that growl!

I've been really enjoying them as well. Especially compared to playing mostly humbuckers the last few years! Also, it is a great soldering kit!
I have the same guitar 5622t did you have some spacing gap ?
No I did not!
Strange, were there broadtrons before?
@@wildsyd357 Nope! Mine has Halo'Tron's in them which I think are a tad smaller.
When I saw "Seventh Day Guitars", the first thing I thought of was Seventh Day Adventist. Hopefully I'm wrong.
hahah! I don't think Scott is Seventh day adventist!
I don’t understand why anyone would get a Gretsch /Filter’Tron if they want a more PAF tone. Different tools for different contexts.
