I once helped someone new to kirby and the forgotten land play it and I played as player two and it was stress making sure they didn't die to some random enemy or falling down a hole.

I can't believe it, but this has become a comfort video/speedrun. The easy, non-stressful gameplay plus the play-fighting between brothers just puts me at ease. I've fallen asleep to it at least once, maybe more. Thanks for being so calming and fun. I hope I add a couple extra thousand or so views with my rewatches. :)
I love the constant fighting and arguing, you really can tell these two are brothers from the playful rivalry and how much crap they give each other
I still find it hilarious that bandana waddle dee playable debut was with the spear copy ability but the spear copy ability hasn't been in any game where he's playable since return to dreamland so now he has a completely unique moveset unlike meta knight or dedede.
I'm sure someone has said this already, but things moving "weirdly" in the background is actually an intentional graphics choice! Things that are sufficiently far from the camera drop way down in fps both to save power and as a cute aesthetic choice. You can notice things pick back up to their regular framerate as you draw closer to them. The depth of field effect is there for a similar reason; both to emphasise distances and to cut down on processing power. They learnt a lot from the tech issues in Star Allies.

Bandana waddle dee is honestly too op since he can't die. Whenever I fight a boss with my brother without having to do damagless, I just run right at the boss and start stabbing it without being careful at all. I like to call my strategy a risk but I don't care cuz my brother is good at dodging and stalling

Fun fact: this design of King Dedede is inspired by his design in the Dark Matter trilogy(Dreamland 2, Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64) where instead of the wide beak, he has a more simplified mouth.

@@MarcusTalks1 While anyone who's played Kirby 64 would immediately recognize it, because of (1) first 3D outing and (2) that game was 3D, so there's no spritework conversion either, it's just how he looks but in HD.

In other words, this game in a nutshell
Something that I learned while fiddling with the game is that it is possible to instantly drop a copy ability or mouthful mode by pressing the select (minus) button, instead of holding down "y". Over the course of the game it might not be that much faster, but it might save a few fractions of a second here and there.
The second I played this game the first thing I thought was "this would make a sick speed run

I freaking love this game. The graphics, the gameplay, the upgrades, the story, the bosses, the secrets, the fact that the waddle dees aren’t considered an enemy at all in this game! I love it. So much. If you don’t have this game, I would for sure get it.

The only real complaint I have is how it feels the need to have a billion different cutscenes every time you want to upgrade a power.
First there's the actual scroll collection, then the cutscene where it highlights the forge, then the cutscene of giving forge dee the scroll(s), then a cutscene in front of every power for every single scroll you got, *then* finally there's the actual forging cutscene itself, which is the *only* skippable one.

I just realized that when Kirby does his thing to float, he is technically copying the air to float
As explained in the difficulty selection, "Easy Mode" in the game is supposed to be your usual Kirby difficulty.
I thought that the wild mode was supposed to be standard kirby, and spring breeze was super easy?
Impressive how Kirby is one of the few franchises that gets better as time goes on, not worse. Impressive for Kirby, but disappointing for most other things.
i mean kirby very well could have gone that way. for a time after sakurai left kirby development, the series did stall and slump like the rest, and many didn’t think the series could pull through.
game development is hard after all, especially amid the struggle between raw creativity and corporate considerations, and it’s unfortunate many franchises seem to decay or outright die when stuck in development hell
kirby fortunately underwent a revival under a new director who is just really good at making things come together, and kirby has been wowing us ever since
interestingly enough, sakurai did foresee the sequelitis that befalls most franchises and leave seemingly because of it. if the dev interviews are any indication, a lot of decisions regarding kirby development HAL has made were done with that possible decay / death in mind, between celebrating that the pink puff has pulled through against all odds and making sure everything was polished before making the jump to the third dimension
In my mind, I give every franchise a chance to have a few bad entries. I don’t care where in its lifespan they occur. And honestly, I can’t think of THAT many franchises that have significantly, objectively dropped in quality over time. Usually when people say “decline”, they mean “stagnate”.
In a sense, the Paper Mario series circa 2008-2015 was in decline if you held the opinion of Paper Mario 64 to be the best.
I LOVE the two player speedruns. Every time it’s so satisfying listening to you guys cheer each other on and/or fight for speed supremacy.
And I wanna be clear, so far anyone you do a speedrun with results in an awesome video. Keep it up!
12:45 for the very first one you do Weapon Dee gives you the items needed to do it! (you can see a little +2 rare stones and +500 star coins but you did it so quick it didn't appear on the main number before it was cancelled out) Also (spoilers for postgame)
Fun Fact!: Leongar's real name isn't Leongar. its actually Leon same with Clawroline , who used to be called Carol, they were friends doing stuff together but then they discovered Lab Discovera and the eternal capsule Fecto Forgo started influencing Leon which made him give himself the name Leongar, same with Carol becoming Clawroline. The beast pack was all Fecto forgo's doing because after becoming Leongar he formed the brutal pack and started hunting down Elfilin. All this is revealed by Gotcha descriptions btw, they are this game's pause screen descriptions.

Getting to play split screen coop with my sibling is easily one of the highlights of my entire childhood. Unfortunately I no long have to opportunity to experience that, but hearing you guys just have fun while playing this brings back all those amazing memories. Thank you.

Funny thing is the anime actually addresses Waddle Dees not having mouths. Dedede tries to feed one a cookie out of curiosity and it "eats" by absorbing it.

The fact that if you are not thorough when exploring areas you cannot see all of the tasks you have to do to get Waddle Dees for completionists who don’t use online guides?

I tried that myself, you barely have enough time to charge up but ranger just doesn’t have enough range
For ranger to be good they'd have to upgrade it which would take a lot of extra time.

Final hit on boss: chris with a spear stab
it makes me wonder if it would be worth getting the 3rd lava upgrade, dragonfire, just because of how much damage it outputs in the lion and the final battle, if it takes under a minute to get it would be well worth it especially for the final boss because of how many invincible cycles he has, faster damage = less invincibility= more time saved, additionally because of how early it is theres more then a chance it would save time on the following levels.

Kirby and the forgotten land is essentially a combination of Mario Odyssey and 3D World but it’s a Kirby game
Or seriously, it's just Kirby, but 3D. If you liked previous titles, you're likely to like this one too.

Fairly sure perfect-dodging the stomps (and any boss attacks in general) would allow you to do more damage than just jumping over.

45:48 I had to slow it down to 0.25× and spam pause to be as sure as possible. It was hard to tell but I think Chris just barely reached the cage first. The only thing I know for sure is that the closest you both were while at the same height Chris was infront, when it came to actually getting the waddle dee's it was hard to tell since waddle dee was on the ground and Kirby was in the air, but it seems to me like Chris won this one.
I did the same and found that when they turned invisible (triggering the short cutscene) was when Chris landed so Chris did win this one

@@Dav7id2003 agreed. All of waddle dee was fs behind the tornado when they dissapeared. I honestly couldn't tell at normal speed but at 0.25 it was way easier.
