I wonder how many people are out there who are 25+ (I'm 37) and kind of never had their ocd or TOCD noticed and treated in childhood. I suffered in silence a long time due to multiple factors.
I wish people would be more careful giving TS medications like the atypical antipsychotics, especially by checking if lowering their dopamine is gonna make other symptoms worse. I was prescribed it without anyone checking me for ADHD symptoms or depression, both of which it turns out I had, and it made me so indescribably miserable for ages before I finally gave up and stopped taking it.
I'm curious and confused about the findings that those with childhood-onset OCD with tics have a different symptom set than those with OCD without tics. I'm 42 and have OCD (diagnosed when I was 33) which began when I was 8 or 9. I've also had motor tics that whole time - sometimes more present that others. Yet, while I have some mild 'just right' obsessions, I mostly suffer with severe obsessions around contamination/illness and have done since childhood. Is this unusual?
Some people with TS also have “regular” OCD. I had that type as a child, and it went away once I went on Zoloft but the Tourettic OCD-type symptoms never did. It could also be that you have primary OCD and tics secondary to that, rather than the other way around.
Roughly 60% of TS patients have reported to have OCD symptoms, whilst its around 70% with ADHD symptoms alongside TS. Also yes, it is common for tics to develop from heightened OCD symptoms/obsessions.
Thank you so much for this very detailed presentation! You have helped me understand my child so much more.

Did you end up taking anything?

Do you know the % of adult onset of tics with OCD & ADHD comorbidity?
Also, is it common for tics to develop from heightened triggered OCD obsessions.
