  • Does your trailer A/C leak? Maybe it is time to change the gasket on the roof of your trailer.
In this video, we decided to change the A/C gasket on our Vintage 1973 Avion LeGrande BEFORE we had any leaking issues. It's an older air conditioner, so we made the assumption that it was time for a new gasket. Changing the air conditioner gasket on your RV is really a simple job.
Whether you have a vintage trailer or a new trailer, the steps are still pretty much the same.
    1. Disassemble your trailer A/C inside the RV
    2. Disconnect wiring harness
    3. Remove the mounting bolts
    4. Lift the A/C off of trailer
    5. Remove old gaskets
    6. Install new gasket
    7. Re-install all previous A/C components from Steps 1-4
Voila...New RV Air Conditioner Gasket installed.

I'm 3rd (?) owner of my 71 Avion LeGrande and have many original pamphlets and owners manual & some type, mimeographed pages.
    GOSH theyre swell!
Thanx for the info & sequals.
Ya just start abiding some dude when suddenly it's a new teach!

We think Avions are some of the BEST trailers ever made! (Streamlines and Silver Streaks are well built, too. Airstreams don't make the cut.)
Hold onto those manuals! We are always referencing them on our projects. And we have a bunch of projects coming up this fall!
Will you be making any repairs or renovations to yours? Or keeping it all original? (We love that, toooo!)

That plug running down the wall and plugged into the electrical is bananas. That seems so weird 😳

I know, Right!! I don't understand that decision, but I also can't change it at the moment.

@@OurGoldRoad seems straight forward enough that you could run a dedicated connection from the breaker box to the unit to hardwire...but I have no clue what the interior walls of an Avion are like. I know in our rig it’s a bit of a lego block thought process to run wires.

@@ConsidertheWonders Donna here... removing the walls would be a bear of a job. They run behind the cabinetry, so to pull them down in full sheets, we'd have to remove some of the interior cabinetry. LOL!! So some owners cut holes in the aluminum walls and fish them thru, but dang.... I'm laughing while thinking of adding yet ANOTHER project to our ridiculous list. I'm straight up crazy for having 3 RVs to fix up. (face palm)

Good video, though I wish you had mentioned the make of the AC. I have done this once before on a popup camper with a Coleman AC. The process is identical from what I can see. I currently have a 2007 Coachman motorhome we bought earlier this year. The AC has water dripping into the interior. I would have/should have replaced it when I bought it. The AC in your video looks identical, but I am not seeing where it plugs in. The Coleman on the popup also plugged in to an external outlet just as yours does. I guess I'll find out once I begin working on it. The long bolts that hold the whole unit down were rusty and bent on my old Coleman. That was on a 1998 Palomino Pinto. They were EXTREMELY difficult to remove. However, I easily found replacement bolts at Home Depot. I suggest people consider removing the AC and replacing it with a wall unit. The 14" hole in the roof can be covered with a vent. These AC units are very heavy and will eventually warp the roof. My popup camper needs a new roof because of this.

We actually have an older A/C still on the trailer. It's an Emerson Kool Tool. When a previous owner installed it, they plugged into an outlet inside the trailer. We just measured the opening and previous gasket to find the right size for the new gasket. Thanks for watching!

Good video but would be so much better without the annoying music.
