200-4R's are absolutely NOT junk. Buy the performance rebuild kit and change the governor springs. Can be built stronger than the 700r4 and it does not cost that much money. I bought all my own parts and had a transmission shop install it and it will hold up to 500 plus horsepower.
This guy is blowing smoke up are butts!!! There is nothing wrong with a 200r4. The 700r4 and 200r4 are basically the same with little differences here and there. They cost about the same to do a good build of a 200r4 as a good 700r4. There are tons of guys with knowledge of how to build a 2004r. Just look at the Grand National guys or any gbody (Monte Carlo ss, El Camino, Malbiu ect..) a good amount use a 2004r trannies. Also the gears are better in a 200r4. Do some research and exit video NOW
Lou didnt want to work with me on my rebuild I call them like 4 or 5 times about the converter , that came with my level # 3 rebuild it was a bad converter , they told me I had to buy a new one . WHAT ??? so what do I do with the converter that I paid for, and how come they couldnt give me the right one for my set up.
My 200r4 takes trans brake hits with the green tci fluid and a monster cooler and a manual electric lock up, had it singing to 8800 rpm with 411 gears in my 85 Monte ss. Reverse valve body aswell. Thing is a tank
I have a 1973 Corvette big block with a 3 speed automatic. I am not a racer but the high rpm at highway speeds with this wonderful engine is less than enjoyable and affordable. I have seen 200's placed in this c3 body but are there other options?
Unfortunately us Grand National guys are stuck with the 200r4 between the BRF valve body and the risk of dropping off boost. And having to replace the driveshaft. But I wanted a 700 it was just too risky but I got a stage 2 200r4 built 15 years ago and she still pulls hard even with a transbrake and 3400 stall converter. It broke me for months but well worth it. I didn’t know about you guys back then but I’m sure y’all build a great Turbo Regal transmission. If I ever need another build I’ll definitely contact y’all.
Thank you for your comment. We appreciate your interest in our transmissions and look forward to building you a bullet proof unit in the future should the need arise. Mad Dog Transmissions 770-781-0949
What's up Maddog. question. I have a Chevy 454 ss pick up. and it comes with a t400 tranny. I currently have it in the shop. and I'm undecided on which I want to put. either the 700 or the 200. I need my truck to swing and hit some corners hard. I love burning rubber. and feel the speed on the freeway. so which one would you recommend? thanks for the time
Got an 87 trans am with a 350 making about 350 horsepower bought a used 700r4 that i know is good but it is stock. What kind of upgrades can i do on a budget for this transmission to shift nice and be reliable behind 350 horsepower. The trans is stock designed for stock engine which in 1987 was a 305 making about 210 horsepower if even that
To all you nay sayers, start a shop, get recognition for your work, then go on youtube and refute this guys claim. If not, youre just a 15 year old 200r fan boy throwing keywords around.
I have a 1984 Buick Regal 3.8 V6. It currently has the TH250C transmission 3speed no over drive, if I did my research right. I did a little more digging and saw that the 200r4 and the 700r4 is quite popular. I'm interested in putting either a for better gas mileage. Would either of these transmissions fit my V6? If so, what would be a good choice, the 200r4 or 700r4.
2004r is the same length as a powerglide and th350. Then find out if they make a tv cable geometry corrector bracket for your carb. Make sure tc is installed correctly and line pressures are good. Mine has an adjustable vacuum switch for the lock up and it’s great. You should install a temp gauge for it also.
Don't know what he's talking about the 200 being a problem child? I think its quite the opposite, I never had a good experience with a 700 unit, in my opinion unless you're doing serious modifications to it the 700's are only good for vans and truck applications. More importantly he never addresses the question about the huge ratio drop between 1st and 2nd gear on the 700's, do you change that to a closer ratio? instead he only talks about making the tail and cross members fit. There's a thousand kits available for those conversions.

hey looking at an 86 bonneville 305 v-8 only has 78000KMs on it pretty sure it has a 200r4 its a nice car and want to buy it but since its probably sat around alot do you think theres a lot of time left in it in normal driving thanks
It's really hard to say. I would be sure to find out how often and what kind of maintenance was done on it by previous owner. 78,000 miles is not a lot of miles at all considering it is a 1986. Yes, vehicles that sat for a lot of time do tend to have some build up. As far as the transmission is concerned if the fluid is still clean then they have more than likely kept up the maintenance. If regular maintenance was not done on a regular basis, we do not recommend that you change or flush the fluid. That will cause all of the old fluid to mix with the new detergent fluid and the material will come off of the clutches and bands and cause the transmission to fail. You can give us a call if you have more questions or need a better understanding, we are available until about 9-10 PM Eastern every night to answer your call. Mad Dog Transmissions 770-781-0949

the 2004r is better than the 700r4 better gear spread, 2004r can handle more just check out extreme automatics they make the best 2004r in the country
