  • Monster Transmission 4th gear lock up on a 700R4
    Curt in Curt's Corner goes over how to convert a factory lock up circuit to a 4th gear lock up on a 700R4 Transmission.
    This does involve adapting the wiring harness in a way that can not be undone. Proceed with caution and if you are an inexperienced mechanic consider having a professional do this for you.

    You are the true MVP I understood as to what the 4th gear pressure tap was and temperature switch is but you definitely explain how to hardwire it up better than what Superior Solutions schematic what's showing it was like it was written up by a kindergartener

    A little tip on installing the pan with the gasket, put a bolt in each corner through both pan and gasket. The gasket should hold the bolts in place and keep the gasket in place so it doesn't flop around on you.

    So to get this to lock up all you need to do is rewire change the pressure switch and have one power wire to the trans from a keyed fused source?

    I have this exact trany and will be installing this internal two prong pressure switch. My question is how do I connect the four prong external conector to the switch ? as this was not mentioned in this video specifically.

    • @MonsterTransmission

      That is because you're only going to be using the positive and negative wires, the others are deleted.

    So basically we don’t even need the switch? Or (On the driver side connector do I run the run positive wire up to the switch / have other negative grounded to tranny? Or can we run the negative directly to the negative part on switch? Help… thanks

    • @MonsterTransmission

      No you don't need a switch up top but if you are going up or down hills or hauling a trailer or something super heavy it would help you a lot to have so you don't put too much stress on and lugg out the motor. And yes you can run direct negative to switch.

  • @bigboikc07

    And will the converter lock up instantly as soon as the trans shifts to fourth or is in a slight delay

    • @MonsterTransmission

      In delay until line pressure satisfies the pressure switch

    Why not use the temp switch? Is it not important to have warm fluid?

    • @MonsterTransmission
      @MonsterTransmission  3 роки тому

      The temp switch only works for the oem system without a exm to control signal it has to be an on/off system

    So I still plug in the white plug that’s on the outside of the transmission that’s on the driver side ? It’s like a 3-4 white prong plug

    Must a lock up converter be jused after this mod., or just a standart converter like in a TH400 ?

    • @MonsterTransmission
      @MonsterTransmission  6 років тому +2

      Yes you would need to use a lock up converter on a 700R4, unless you convert it to a non lock up unit.

      @@MonsterTransmission I'm not 100% which one is in a stock 1990 Corvette. Last question is would this lock up in 4th gear only?

    • @MonsterTransmission
      @MonsterTransmission  3 роки тому

      Yours should have factory Lock up if no one got into it from 1990. Our 4th Gear Lock Up Kit is designed to only be engaged in 4th gear in cruising speeds so take advantage of that Fuel Economy. This is engaged with a Switch we recommend to only turn the switch on when in 4th gear typically cruising around 55mph is the average and when you slow down out of 4th gear you would turn off the switch to ensure you don't burn up the Lock Up Solenoid in the Transmission.

    • @sportsmansparadice42
      @sportsmansparadice42 3 роки тому

      @@MonsterTransmission It wants to lock up a 45 mph which is way to slow of a speed to lock up in 4th gear. I understand is great for gas mileage, but it's a Corvette, and performance should be first. It would be great to lock up in 4th any above 60 mph.

    • @MonsterTransmission
      @MonsterTransmission  3 роки тому

      This kit is designed on the switch so you can activate it when you want and you will need to turn the switch off when you come out of 4th gear below 55 mph yourself to ensure not to burn up the Lock up Solenoid in the Transmission. So if you want it to come in after 45 mph then do not flip the switch until that preferred time. Thank you for choosing Monster Transmissions.

    How do it come out of lock up

    • @MonsterTransmission
      @MonsterTransmission  6 років тому +5

      When it down shifts to 3rd, it opens the pressure switch and turns off the TCC solenoid.
