An amazing human being with great musicianship. I had the privilege of studying bongó with Johnny Almendra at The Boys Harbor Performing Arts School. He also explained the relationship between el bongó, la conga and los timbales in a traditional ensemble. A very knowledgeable educator. I still have the cassettes with his voice and playing during the lessons. A very humble guy. I hope that he is all right and still around. God bless.
I see that there hasn t been a comment in at least 4 yrs.(except for one ) , Well , it s my privilege to comment today. I personally met Johnnie at GONZALEZ AND GONZALEZ during the 90s. He was also directing the Boys Harbor School of Music in El Barrio. That shows that he know how to give back to the community that helped him develop. I was very saddened to hear of Jillian's early demise. I do hope that Johnny is OK right now in 2018. Gonzalez & Gonzalez is now located around the corner and it will never be the same without LOS JOVENES DEL BARRIO. I always thought that Johnnie and Jillian significantly livened up that restaurant that doubled up as an unlicensed cabaret and closed at midnite. This defect had a significant negative impact on the careers of LOS JOVENES DEL BARRIO. Good luck, Johnnie wherever you are. Phil from the Bronx, NY . 2/4/18
Fast Eddie i wish also to find johnny almendra.. i took classes with him in 2010 in the boys harbor school of music... i remember walking up the harlem streets hearing johnny heating up the congas while i walk to class.. great memories... hope to get in contact with him soon

Seria bueno subtitular la entrevista, algunos no hablamos el inglés fluidamente y se pierde mucha información importante
Amigo, si le das en la opción: Subtítulos, te coloca la traducción en español. Lo estoy viendo en este instante.
