I wish I saw Jay live (RIP) but I am lucky enough to say I've seen the Black Lips live as well as Ty Segall, Wavves, among others. One of my favorite memories was when I saw the Black Lips and randomly during a song Cole leans over and pukes on the stage and doesn't miss a note and continues like nothing happened at all.
Fuck all these people saying these bands suck and shit. At least they are keeping rock alive or what? You want more pop shit? Ty segall is so fucking good, I love him.
Most of these bands are timeless, when you're talking about irrelevant bands in the comments you should fuck off. But mayby you meant to say that Ty Segall and OCS are the only bands who are still active in the music industry?
Wack boi No, not to say that I don't like the music, but this was just another hipster trend that died like 2 years after it took off. Ty and OCs (and Black Lips) are the only ones I know that anyone listens to anymore. I'm not hating, I'm just saying it's a shame that this did die off because I do enjoy the music.
Lucas Crossett yeah mayby, but this documentary was shot in 2010 and uploaded on youtube back in 2012. And bands like The Gories and The Reatards are from the 80s and 90s. I don't love all the bands in the documentary but most of them are really great.
RegularDude They weren't that big in 2010. But they sure are great! wouldn't say they are a classic garage rock band. More psychedelic sounds and bigger sound (a lot of guitars, drummers and wah) Love them tho!
This is great but there's another documentary on UA-cam that focuses more on the Garage Punk bands of the 90's. Does anyone know it's name? The Mummies, Supercharger, Oblivians, Teengenerate, great shit like that. When I talk about 90's punk rock people assume I'm talking about NOFX or Green day... EDIT: I just answered my own question. It was part 2 of this goddamn documentary. I'm a dumbass.
i’m not sure if you have an archive of the footage/audio but my god i would die for a release of some of these live recordings. this version of memphis blues is monstrous.
I know this is a total shot in the dark but does anyone know where to find the reatards set at gonerfest 6? It was shown in this video and the filming and audio is amazing I just wish I could find a full song attleast.
"UH fucking Ty Segall destroyed last night" Then footage of Ty wearing a Heavy Cream tee, playing where we GO!!!! I'm gonna stop feeling bad about not being there during all this shit, one day... Every time I see this I get nostalgyc and stuff.
People saying garage is already taken as a genre, what they mean by garage is garage bands. They've been going on way longer than your genera of digital music
Love how all these people try to make sense of everything, this come from punk, this came from garage this came for pink Floyd, to hell with that. Just play to have fun and kick out all your shit.
Garage bands curtail any generation and styles in delco pa our teen bands were garage band versions of deff leopard and lover boy and maiden it is not just subjected to the baby boom garage band explosion of the mid 60s yes they are the best and hands down made all the metal and prog out of it but a little band from folcroft delco pa called the snaps were the first and then out it went to the cities the elevators zakary thaks the tx bands yeah I agree with the s f guy no garage in bay area they invented metal ! From the dead to slayer
Nonsense! 60s garage punk is 60s garage punk. New garage punk is new garage punk. Just cos it's new doesn't mean it's not real. If that were the case there'd be no metal music today as the original heavy metal stems from the 70s. Same with jazz. Same with all music. Go have a nap in your rocking chair, granddad.
Yes, everyone here knows garage punk was most popular in the 60's but it's a subgenre that never really died out. It morphed into the proto-punk of The Stooges and MC5, then was picked up by guys like The Ramones and The Undertones in the 70's. The 80's had bands like Thee Mighty Caesars who revived the 60's sounds. The 90's had bands like The Mummies, plus The Gories and The Oblivians who are mentioned in this video. In the 21st century it's being led by Ty Segall, Thee Oh See and The Black Lips. Class dismissed.
go lessen to nirvana more....but you dont even like bleach cuz "its too hardcore". they are not trying to be 60's. or grundge..... they are playing music.. music that sounds fucking good. gets me moving, strikes a feeling.
Hahaha you're a classic case of someone who is stuck in the past and can't expand their musical horizons. Punk Rock was started because the generation of kids fucking hated people like you who were stuck thinking that nothing else is as good as it used to be.
it's still rock and that's all that matters it's what kept them going in the 90's, 60's, they're pulling inspiration from everything just like Nirvana and Mudhoney, Therapy? too just listen to Bass Drum of Death pure raw power with a healthy touch of sweet lyrics. The sound of territorial pissings will never die rock lives kyuss lives primus suck
This is the real deal, it’s been around since the late fifties. May I recommend you get the Nuggets compilation, Pebbles and Rave From The Grave? You can’t go wrong with that.
Garage music is about feeling and energy. Love it, live it and enjoy it. There is a sense of freedom & not worrying about what some people think.
Rock 'n' roll needs to be central to our culture again
We need it now more than ever
so crazy how different all of these groups are now.
I know, its cooler than all the bands copying a very popular band like Nirvana or even Oasis. Variety creates masterpieces
They either focus too much on synth or sound too clean and pop.
And it’s sad that a few of these bands have broken up. Rip Jay.
A scene you can believe in.
How else would we get that Rockn’roll dive-bar smell?!
This is my favorite documentary. True story.
Fuck all these people saying these bands suck and shit. At least they are keeping rock alive or what? You want more pop shit?
Ty segall is so fucking good, I love him.
Karla sheryniele IMO Ty is a rock legend
Abel Ramirez yes he is.
I saw Ty live when he was touring Manipulator and it was so good. Ty is honestly going to be remembered as one of the greats from his generation
Garage puts the boogie into my bones and the ringing into my ears and I fucking love it!!!!
I've watched this documentary three times already. It's brilliant.
That footage of Jay caught me off guard..rip
No better way to open though
he was the pinicale of late 2000's garage rock tho
Never gets easier thinking that Jay is gone forever....
Jay is the GOAT
Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees are the only guys that are still relevant in 2016
Most of these bands are timeless, when you're talking about irrelevant bands in the comments you should fuck off.
But mayby you meant to say that Ty Segall and OCS are the only bands who are still active in the music industry?
Wack boi No, not to say that I don't like the music, but this was just another hipster trend that died like 2 years after it took off. what about king gizzard and the lizzard wizzard?
RegularDude They weren't that big in 2010. But they sure are great! wouldn't say they are a classic garage rock band. More psychedelic sounds and bigger sound (a lot of guitars, drummers and wah)
Love them tho!

Loved this doc as a teen and now I am back to see how many people in it have been exposed as predators
Sucks doesn’t it. Looked up to some of the folks in here and it breaks my heart to know what they’ve done.
@@NyqWill95 Yeah it sucks. Glad to see John Dwyer and Ty are still good people as far as I can see though.

Always love me some garage rock! Thanks, Noisey!
Who would've thought owning a Fender twin reverb amp and having no life goals was an aesthetic at one point
Still is old man
I miss burger records 😢
Asinine comment
This IS Garage! This genre has been around since the early 60s, unlike the one you listen to.
I loved this documentary, like; i've probably watched it 20 times over. But these people seem insufferable now that i'm older
I know this is a total shot in the dark but does anyone know where to find the reatards set at gonerfest 6? It was shown in this video and the filming and audio is amazing I just wish I could find a full song attleast.

This is an amazing doc - I feel very fortunate to make music at such an awesome time as this.

Barristan Selmy i know its olf but chorus and delay

Sleazy rock and roll. The way it should be.
I like The Chats

Ty Segall is God.
I came here expecting an exploding garage...instead I get whatever the heck this is.
I understand but it only takes two minutes.

+Ellen Fazackerley Garage Rock has been around since the 1960s, your UK Garage fucking techno bullshit is the new trash

I'm so pissed, I thought this was about UK Garage the greatest music ever created
When you say UK Garage do you mean Freakbeat stuff like The Creation and The Move or that trashy, chavvy techno crap?
oh god please do a little bit of research.
I'm hardly going to research a genre I don't like. Was just disappointed when I heard it, expecting UK grime.
flag is hardcore...i dont know why i needed to say that
Yall lost me at the magic kids… FOH
These guys are all so little. What's with little guys and this kind of music?
I thought this was going to be about "ga-ridge" music not "ga-rahj' music. Sad =(
