What do you mean "not the most beautiful?" It's stunning. I have an 8 that's even older that this one and it's one of my favorites. The old fashioned and industrial look of them is half the point!
I agree, she's a great looking machine. But, from a purely artistic point of view I think she has to come in second to something like our Grover and Baker: ua-cam.com/video/aeoLmi39dqo/v-deo.html What do you think? Thanks for commenting!
I have the Wheeler & Wilson 8 with the Wheeler & Wilson (Name) Logo on the bar, its in its original cabinet, with the Wheeler & Wilson attachment's case in the drawer, full of extra parts including the glass plates. the machine functions I just am so afraid of doing something wrong with it. The number stamped on the plate is 555332. If I knew how to attach photos here I would! I have been seeking out all information I can on this machine so as not to do anything harmful / wrong before trying to stitch with it. LOVED your "very" informational video. Thank You.
You're welcome, and thank you for commenting! The W&W 8s are great machines and so durable it's hard to do anything to them that would cause any harm. The worst that can happen is a thread tangle, and those are easy to fix. As for attaching photos, if you want to post images of your machine, and I'm sure many people would like to see them, it's very easy since you already have a UA-cam account. Simply make a short video using your smart phone and post it on your channel. Most phones have an option in the "share" option that will automatically upload videos to your UA-cam channel. You'll have to find out how to input your channel's address or your Google account into your phone to do so, but that shouldn't be difficult. The great thing about learning how to do this is that if you run into a problem, you can show a video of what is happening and ask people to explain how to fix it. For better quality videos, most computers have video editing software that lets you modify video taken with a camera to create a slicker looking video. I use an old Canon digital camera and iMovie on a Mac. If you have any problems with your machine, please feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to help all I can. My current project is decorating a Singer Featherweight with Victorian roses and gold filigree. I hope you'll come back to see how it turns out.
@@wayneschmidt490 Thank's so much for the reply and the "great" advice, I truly appreciate it! I will try to make a video and post it, I am a little slow on all of that anymore. LOL. I am so excited to give it a go now. I do auto and household upholstery, I can think of many places this machine would fit the task much better than this big Ol Pfaff walking foot on more delicate fabrics. I feel bad using it, but excited to at the same time. Again Thank You - I feel much better about taking it on and not just looking at it as an ornament in the sewing room.
What is the serial number of your Wheeler and Wilson 8? I have one also, but I don't know how to look up the date of the machine. Mine is a hand crank, no. 8.
The serial number is stamped near the upper edge of the metal plate to the right of the needle. If you go to 2:03 in the video, there's a list of serial numbers and their corresponding dates. These should help you figure out how old yours is. Thanks for commenting!
A Groz-Bechert 90/14 works great in ours. Look on-line for them or check your local sewing machine repair shop for a suitable substitution. Thanks for commenting!

Sí. He visto dos tipos de ruedas en W&W 8: una grande, alta y plana, y otra más pequeña, baja y redondeada.

Hi Wayne,
What needle does the No. 8 require?
A Groz-Bechert 90/14 works great in ours. Look on-line for them or check your local sewing machine repair shop for a suitable substitution. Thanks for commenting!
@@wayneschmidt490 Many thanks Wayne, that will save me hours of online searching.
@@bobmcdonnell6508 You're very welcome.
Have you given her a name yet? 😀
Clara Leigh May, though I have to say she looks rather muscular so maybe I should have given her a man's name. :-)
@@wayneschmidt490 Nah, I'm what you would call a husky/muscular woman myself -- so I appreciate Clara Leigh May's figure and name! 🤣🤣🤣
I have the same machine...except my machine is the hand crank version. Its a beautiful machine and its very old
You're very lucky. The hand cranked versions are much rarer than the treadle types. Thanks for commenting!
