+Martin O'Byrne mmm, i'll think you find both variations of the 323 are ALL 2.3L. m50b25 has 190 bhp because of the inlet manifold. m52b25 has 170 bhp because it DOESNT have the m50 inlet manifold. but they're all 2.3 :P
Most definitely not. There are vast differences between the M50 and M52 engine, and also vast differences in their characters as the M50B25 is quite peeky and the M52B25 is not. With the logic you're using you could just aswell compare the M52 to any other arbitrary engine.
323i is a 325 engine downgraded from 190bhp-170bhp. this is ment for the german market, as they measure roadTAX by horsepower. so you could have the 2,5 straight six, but cheaper to run.
There is quite a misconception between the 323i and the 325i both of them have a complete different engine ! The 325i has a 2.5 liter M50 engine , the 323i has the same 2.5 liter except it's a m52, exactly the same engine found on the 328i :) if I have any mistake feel free to correct me 😄👍
Last year I found an 85.000km e36 323i on mint condition. First owner was an old man who used it ony on the weekend, and second owner had it sleeping in the garage for a whole year. Very lucky find, allthough the speedometer sometimes randomly stops working. Other than that, car's great. Sedan of course

By the way if you are looking to buy an e36, if you don't mind the looks, sedans are way cheaper than coupes and perform exactly the same (I even heard sedans' chasis feel more solid)
@@norphes3865 well I actually have 4 BMWs 2 sedans and 2 coupes I paid 400$ for the 323i sedan and I paid 500 for the 320i sedan and 350$ for this 318i coupe and also got the other coupe which is a m sport 318i for only 1500$ some of these cars had problems that's why I got them for cheaper so now I can put money into them
Ian Townsend ahahahahaha youre not lying at all man, I always had my Mustang GT or my SS Camaro and I always thought I was the shit in those cars, ESPECIALLY towards BMW drivers because I always felt like they wanted to play lol Years later I bought an F10 BMW and well I love it honestly. I still have a V8 Mustang that I enjoy time to time, but after dailying my 5er, I dont think I can daily anything else.

I have this exact car although In alpine white and same colour interior but the leather counterpart also fitted with power windows it’s a 1996 model 323i with the 2.5L M52b25 inline 6 engine I bought it when I was 17 with 180,000 kilometres in 2019 I am the second owner since brand new of the showroom floor and it runs like a dream and absolutely love it
How much difference in power is it if you put the m50 inlet manifold is it the 20hp much like the 325i which is also 2.5L and already has the m50 manifold although it has the weaker engine block
@@bleensteen9331 it's not just a US thing. The glue that holds the door pockets into the door card loses it's adhesion over time. You can use a hot glue gun to glue the door pocket sections back to the door. The grab handle on the door also comes away along with the trim around the handle. The fabric peels away as well, almost without fail. The door cards hadn’t yet fallen off and the headlining hadn’t yet fallen down.
it's not a rover

No, they are not. For heaven's sake... what do you think the 25 in M52B25 means?

you can free up like 20 hp by swapping the m50 intake manifold on the 323
it's not downgraded. it's 190bhp vs. 170whp. Identical engines except 323 is all aluminum and will warp when the headgasket inevitably goes.
More and more difficult to find a decent E36 today :'(
i had the same car on a S plate but mine was an SE so it had leather interior i loved it

The car is currently 26 years old and is perfect never any mechanical issues (because I take care of it and properly maintain it)
Current owner should take it to Richard Hammond's Workshop! :)
323 when bmw made bullet proof cars. Not like the scrap they're building now sadly
@J B couldn't agree more
@J B no manual transmission sadly
This Old 323i is a better car then the newer 3 Series models, most people just think a g20 is much better, but in the real world: No.
@J B g20 is too new to know, we'll see how well built it is in 10y
Still not a bad runner but you may as well have the 325i
2.5 not 2.3. The 323 is just a 325 with the inlet manifolt squeesed a bit. All because german insurance prices are lower if you have less horsepower.
2.5l... on my 1997 323i.. 170hp

323i with steel rims??
And no airco, no headrests in the back, no... no... Very simple.
when was this shot?
Between 1998-2001
Come on Hammond 2.5 doh..
Man like Richard didnt do the research.
''Rather boring''?????
,.
the 323 is considered a 2.5
+Ron S It's not "considered" a 2.5, it IS a 2.5l.
considered a 2.5 in as much as IT IS a 2.5 (2494cc)
Ron S no
The 2.5 has a m50 engine and the 2.3 got a m52. So actually big difference
It's still 2½ litre displacement, that it has a newer engine generation (M52) doesn't change that.
323 is a 2.5

Who knew you could get a 323i on steel rims with the basic clock in the dash!? Looks like a basic 318i apart from the badge.
Boy those comments about interior durability and build quality aged right along with the interior. 😂
Not 2.3, this is 2.5 (M52B25)
My coupe has almost the same interior options as this sedan
2.5L

Paid 2k for a glorious ‘98 328is coupe. It was a pain in the ass to find but I love it to death
Or you could get one and do this for more excitement. 1996 BMW 323i with upmarket exhaust system
Propeller ?
the door cards fall off them..
Hear about that all the time online but TBH have never seen it in person. Maybe it's a US thing because of the climate?
possibly, I'm from the England myself btw
greets from germany, had them fall of on 2 of my E36
