Eek! Exciting to be finally launching this new series to replace the Edinburgh month by month one! This has proved to be a lot more challenging to make BUT I feel very proud about how it came out! Hope you love the cinematic shots AND the silliness! Do you have any favourite spots in Bruntsfield?
We were doing shot setup at the beginning and got a bit silly. Feel free to tell us if you want more or less of our nonsense in these videos (though we'll likely add what we think is funny anyway!). Also, let us know which parts of town you want us to do an in depth video on next!
Loved the intro! My husband and I are FINALLY planning our covid postponed honeymoon to Edinburgh and are thinking about staying at an Airbnb in Stockbridge. Would love to know what you think about that area and how difficult it would be for us to get to city center from there 🙂
Yes, Bruntsfield is fabulous. And it backs onto several residential neighbourhoods that are really quite sensational, including Greenhill, Morningside, Merchiston, Polwarth, Viewforth, and Marchmont. It is worth noting that at either end of Bruntsfield's high street is shopping on the high streets of Tollcross, and Morningside. As for the absence of a large grocer, there is a Co-op two mintues' walk into Tollcross from Barclay Church, while on Bruntsfield's high street you will find a Sainsbury's Local, with a Tesco Express at Holy Corner, across from Edinburgh Bookshop. A few minutes' further along in Morningside there are a Waitrose, M&S Simply Foods, another Sainbury's Local, with two Margiotta's further up the road. Plus there are smaller shops including Costcutter. In short, anything one might be seeking in terms of edibles and drinks can be found within the short span that includes Bruntsfield and Morningside. As you note, locals might want to consider 'visiting' Bruntsfield. It certainly is a wonderful experience.
We stayed in Bruntsfield on our Edinburgh trip last June. It was so nice - close enough to everything but far enough away that we could escape the crowd. And the locals were very nice and welcoming!
This is so good. Am a former expat (had to go back home) and I'm still deeply in love with Edinburgh, thanks to you, I can walk in these streets again, see things I never saw, and feel incredibly nostalgic. This is great, what a fantastic work u did here. Thanks a lot! ❤
You guys always add really good music to all of your videos. But, the music for this video is outstanding!!! Excellent music throughout the whole of the video!!! Awesome work you two!!! 👍😁👍
Loving this series already! This was so helpful, especially as I'm planning my trip for September and will definitely be stopping by Bruntsfield. Cannot wait to see the next episodes. 😊
Hey! I adore your content.. you have helped us a lot in acquainting with Edinburgh.. yours is the best content that anyone can come across about Edinburgh... Keep up the great work and throw us some info around Stockbridge/ canonmills if possible !
Love this. We moved to Edinburgh a year ago. I love our neighbourhood (Stockbridge) but need to explore other areas as well. This will be a useful guide.
Love this! My family and I are moving to Edinburgh this fall for my husband’s grad studies. We have a kid who wants to attend Broughton High so we’re considering apartments in Craigleith, Stockbridge, Cannonmills and maybe even Granton areas. Would love to see any of these areas in the future in your videos! Your channel has been so helpful getting me prepared for the big move across the pond! Thank you!
I stayed in Bruntsfield when I visited Edinburgh and loved it! I did walk to Waverley on my first day and it went very quickly, plus I got to stumble upon Victoria Street unawares from Grassmarket and was so enchanted with the initial view (it was also a weekday morning in May, so not too busy). Thank you for this video to remind me!
Thanks so much! My daughter (sh'e 29) and I are traveling to Edinburgh in April and Bruntsfield looks like a great destination with plenty for both of us to enjoy. We'll keep viewing for more ideas.
This is such a helpful video! I have a terrible sense of direction and get lost everywhere I go!!! Before I went to Edinburgh in May, 2022, I watched all your videos and when I got to Edinburgh, I could find things! I had a good idea of the layout of Old Town. Thank you, thank you! On the next trip, I would like to become more familiar with the neighborhoods and try out the restaurants, coffee shops and outstanding places to visit like parks and museums. I would like to know more about the Water of Leith walkway. It would also be very cool to take an ecotour of Edinburgh, something like a naturalist's tour and learn about the local birds and plants of the city. I love learning about Edinburgh and Scotland and enjoy your videos, the humor and the ongoing story of Kakibot and Simon.
Honestly you’re doing a public service with this series! Visit Scotland needs to provide funding for your work expanding its reach and volume produced!!! Reach out to them! 🏴
I TRIED! Only got a canned response from them, doubt they even looked at the content I sent them. But I’ll try again! Maybe it was just one very busy person who couldn’t be bothered to give my email proper attention 🥲
Very interesting profile of the area. Looking forward to the following videos. I'm interested in the Leith area. Will you be covering areas in Fife? In my research it seems rents are a fair bit cheaper, if a bit out of the way. Heard some areas there are quite rough too, but plenty good also, so.
We'll deffo do Leith - probably in a two parter, as it is basically its own town! With Fife...maybe down the line when the channel is big enough to justify covering the surrounding areas in a more detailed manner. There are some Fife videos on the channel already but focused more on places to visit than to move to (unless one is flush with money x).
Simon narrates !! Lovely video and great format idea. I would do our old neighborhood of Abbey Hill, as there are a massive amount of Airbnb rentals there. I love this video as o will be local to this area where I am staying on this trip. Yay!
My daughter lives in Bruntsfield! Shame you missed Three Birds restaurant; our favorite! Also Matto Pizza, but technically that’s in Morningside, so I get it.. Great video!
Loved this so much! I live just down the street in morningside and I might be a little biased but think it would make for a nice feature in this series :) x
i first saw you in the castle vid. this one is much better. great narration and love the visuals! beautiful and interesting. we’ll be visiting (via cruise ship) for 11 hours in may, and hope to find our way to bruntsfield. thank you!
Wow! Bruntsfield has definitely become super-gentrified over the years.I remember the area 30 years ago when it was considered nothing special. Many of the tenement flats were occupied by students. People who bought a flat in Bruntsfield back then must now be sitting on a nice little asset.
Very entertaining. Great video. Bross Bagels is brilliant but also would to give a shout to Artisan Cheesecake. They do great bagels too. Give them a try. Other handy thing about Bruntsfield is 2 night buses go through it. The N11 and N16. A lifesaver sometimes.
I follow Magdalena ! She often has really funny stuff on her stories as well as lovely photos. This was a really great video, there’s a lot of interesting shops. I love how they’re all very unique in coloring and design. Why is there an Irish whiskey in that one shop that with all the Scottish stuff? 😅 I’m not that familiar with a lot of the neighborhoods outside of the main city center so I would like to see as many as possible! I also would like to know what the people in Edinburgh do for a living to be able to afford that housing. A lot of those old buildings are beautiful. Makes for wishful thinking!
Wow I see you are REALLY paying attention to detail here!! Income wise I think it's important to consider there is quite a noticeable amount of "old money" people. Then you also have students attending prestigious universities who rely on scholarships OR the bank of mom and dad. But in my immediate social circle there's a lot of people who work in tech/startups/e-commerce, often remotely, who are making around 50k a year (so often up to 100k as a couple, sometimes a bit more) and that (tragically) seems like just about the level at which you can live in a nice area of Edinburgh without having too many financial worries (but also nothing extravagant or luxurious!)
You guys really should be getting money from Edinburgh tourist board, I hope you are!! If not I'll start a petition. (Not to mention a few kick backs from the cafes and shops that you make look so gorgeous and appealing). Oh and a request for a neighbourhood (though I expect it's already on the list) is Stockbridge :-) another Hogsmeade you might say.
I really enjoyed this video. I've lived on Lawnmarket, in Old Town, for almost a year and a half now, but I'm still always finding shops and restaurants I never noticed before. I would love to see a video like this for Old Town.
Lawnmarket! Do you have to machete your way through the visitors in the summer season? Or do you just leave the house at night only like a friendly local vampire? .D
@@Kakibot it does get a bit busy during tourist season, and life is especially strange during the Fringe when all sorts of bizarre things are right outside. 🤣However, even during the busy periods it is surprisingly quiet in the evenings. It is generally fairly calm after 7pm and most evenings it is very quiet and almost deserted by around 9pm.
Brunstfield is great. Cafe Grande is really good as is Thai Lemongrass. You should hit Morningside next as you can just wander off from Holy Corner. A short stop at S Luca's will be a good shout.
SHHHHHHHH! Don't tell anybody! We need to keep one quirky artsy little hipster area that the tourists don't know about! Guys, she didn't mean Bruntsfield, she was talking about Stockbridge! It's Stockbridge, forget you ever heard about Bruntsfield! 😅(Also, favorite thing about Bruntsfield is the elevation, you feel you are above the rest of the city, it's Edinburgh's Vinohrady! But not as steep a climb to get there!)
Haha I know, locals will probably grow to hate me! But in Bruntsfield specifically I feel like they have a pretttty strong hold on their favourite cafes and restaurants - I feel like it's hard to find a place to sit without planning it for the most off peak of times! I guess... Vinohrady are very similar in this 🥲 I always want to go to Mezi Srnky and I never find space!
Looking forward to watching. Ah, but however, I loathe Bruntsfield. Up its own posterior. Never want to visit again. Chic Murray lived there once upon a time & Sophia Jex Blake opened a dispensary in the area and Elsie Inglis . Opened a women's hospital. Flats now? It's gone downhill ever since So sorry to give it a negative review....I'm sure folk are happy to live their lives there. Maybe I have picked up on a bad vibe!
Ah well! I kinda get it - for me it's always been Morningside. Especially when I travelled through with my family (who are very easy to identify as "non locals" by their level of confusion haha) and stopped by a couple of shops, and I didn't really appreciate the attitude 🤔 Bruntsfield is studenty enough to be a bit more welcoming, at least to me!

Nothing wrong with a little silliness. You're not far from us in Tollcross! I was in Artisan Roast with my sister a couple of days ago.
I’m here for the nonsense 😊 it’s fun!
Nonsense encouraged.
You give nonsense. I'll give a Like.

fantastic! I was waiting for this series like mad and it's already my favourite! beautiful B-rolls too! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Aww! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Now to live up to the high standard I’ve foolishly set for myself haha
I love the kick-off of yout Edinburgh Neighborhoods series. I want to live in Bruntsfield!! But I guess I can visit next time I'm there, instead :)

how many treasures in such a small area!! Bruntsfield is also architecturally interesting, I'd love to have a walk there!

It's on our list! .)
Love the video and looking forward to more videos in the series! Oh, and love the nonsense!! More, please!
We figured that since we hit 20k we should be able to get away with being a bit more true to our weirdness ✨

I think when Leith happens we’ll probably split it into two videos! There’s just too much goodness!! But it’s deffo on our list. People NEED TO KNOW!

I'm so excited for this series. Looking forward for future videos. :D It was great to learn more Bruntsfield.
So fun to see Bruntsfield from your point of view!!! ♥️
Looking forward to keeping up with this series (mostly because I daydream about being in Edinburgh every day since we left)! Great video as always (:
This was your best work, yet. Thank you for making it! I can't wait for more of this series.

What a compliment! Thank you!!
