I could be wrong as I haven't played the game in a few years, but:
Thermal vision (either from scopes or helmets) allows other players to render at a further distance, albeit as a small orange square. Eventually, they get far enough they're a few pixels at most, but if you look hard enough they are still there. Hitboxes for players stay, even outside of render distance or when other things hitboxes don't persist. An infamous old example of this is back on the PS3 / XBOX 360 where "tank sniping" was a thing. By standing on a tall enough building usually, you could shoot at where a tank driver would be and could kill them through the tank. This was because the tank's hitbox didn't exist to the shooter, due to the distance, but the shot was registered as hitting the other player. It was so evident then because render distance was a lot shorter.
On PS4 / XBOX One, it could still be done though at a longer range. Though, in city combat a big one was abused: building would lose their hitboxes at far enough distance. It wasn't even a long distance, but just enough and you could shoot through buildings. The best evidence of this is that you can see thermal markings of other players through a building, and be able to shoot them. I've been accused of cheating and reported plenty of times for it on PS4, since really it is an exploit.
What this could mean though, is that shots could possibly be even further.
so the hitbox of players will always rendered? thats why you can shoot them in infinite range through multiple objects
@@ArtflPhenix I can't say I know the specific details on how or why the game works as it does. But there is some weird things that go on, and why exploits have come and gone such as tank sniping or shooting through buildings. Back when I played, I'd do long range sniping in the city, and have all of like 4 pixels on a 32 inch tv to go off of when thermal sniping.

I remember DarkViperAU saying in a video that there was an error coding the snipers that gives them a range of about 7k meters meaning if you can line it up it is theoretically possible to kill someone from almost the entire length of the map. He makes facts and glitches videos and has thousands of small info bits like this

There are tracer rounds, but you have to get them through the bunker you buy in online. It's through the research mechanic & there's no way to just get tracer rounds, you basically have to research everything.
But Joe could also fire a flare or throw a molotov on the ground to start a fire. That would be easier to see at night, obviously.
I wonder if the explosive rounds would make it easier to find where they are hitting
@BushWookie141 If they had a thermal scope (bunker research) or thermal goggles from the helmet (ammunation) I would imagine they could see better or see far off explosions. They're almost a wallhack.

tracer rounds dont need the bunker research, the other rounds do
For tracers ammo you have to make the mk2 sniper and unlock the tracers
Not in the creator though. They should be unlocked, of course only for mk2 weapons.

I could see the spec that was james even after the youtube compression I guess the game is rendering something to indicate a player is there even if it’s thousands of meters away
when you calculate the distance did you consider your height or you just measured the straight line? in the video seem to be only the straight line, but with you height the distance would be even more
Yeah, this makes a huge difference. If this shot is measured in a straight line, then the 4400ft is actually not the real distance.
In the event of that being the case, you have to use Pythagorean Theorem to calculate the true distance.
Height of Mt chiliad is 2619ft, and the flat distance on the video here (if that's how it was measured) is 4400ft. A²+b²=c² gives you 2619²+4400²=5120.46ft for the true distance, again if the height wasn't originally accounted for
1560m = 5120ft

I go for long range snipes in different games, including GTA Online. I highly recommend you unlock the explosive rounds and try those. In that case, you can shoot vehicles, which will render on screen past 2,000m.
I got a 1,200m snipe on random players using this method (on my channel for reference).
Also, you can use the waypoint system on the map to accurately measure distance.

Try using a Heavy Sniper MK2 with tracers/explosive rounds. You can get it from a weapon workstation in the Kosatka, Avenger, or Mobile Operations Center. But you will need to grind Bunker missions to unlock the special ammo. They also have a thermal scope which might help you see targets at further distances.
Myth, deathmstch and freemode have different range. In one of the heist setups, pac standard, the convoy. I used to snipe the incoming helis from calafia bridge towards the city. I’m sure it was further than that
GTA mythbusters was my favorite. Always looked forward to them. So excited to see this come up.
Was there a "longest shot in Halo Infinite"? Load up Mires, get some elevated platforms in and snipe away

GTA is my favorite game series so I'm glad this is returning and I'm ready for the shenanigans in GTA 6.

you should try a rocket launcher next, and see if it will travel further since it has an actual projectile
rockets explode in the air after some distance
You can get a little bit more rendering distance in your visual settings on the game also I've had luck using a VR headset and setting my character the first person to get slightly better rendering distances as well and Mark 2 weapons most of them can be equipped with tracers

Have you guys thought about using rockets for this? These projectiles can be better spoted. Maybe they have a similar rendering distance.
Honestly, I am surprised you guys are wondering whether weapons in GTA were hitscan, to me it's obvious. There were never any projectiles visible, no delay between firing and hitting, no reason for them to be projectiles in such an arcade game and it's from over a decade ago.
What if you screen shared to show where u guys are compared to eachother should make it easier
Maybe more players a target will help make some hits.

They did Probably Limit The Range that u Can shoot someone with the sinper but i Remember me to a Trick to shoot at Infinite Range using A Thermal Helmet and Standing behind a Bush or so then maby u Cann see him (his Thermal Signatur) on any Range.

Your shooting down hill on a big angle there wouldn't be bullet drop with a high powered sniper IRL only if your shooting above the horizon.
There is no bullet drop whatsoever. It's a 11 year old piece of junk game. It's all hitscan.
