advice please? we have tried many (thankful for those who offer free returns) and are down to Tortuga Outbreaker Laptop (which we do have in hand therefore we are making sure that one of these I am going to list isn't a better fit for- college student needing COMFORT mainly), Greenroom136 Rainmaker, Alpha One Niner Pathfinder, Able Carry Max (these 3 we do not have on hand and I ask your opinion because they either can't be returned or there is a cost to do so). Son's main goals are: COMFORT, capacity for books, exterior water, 15" laptop separate compartment.

Should I get the xpac version or cordura? And which one is more durable?

i've used the X-pac version for about 3 months now as daily backpack. i'm not sure if its due to the material of mine (X-pac) but on the front vertical zipper pull, when the zipper pull is pulled downwards, it makes a kinda weird high-pitched noise which i guess is the xpac rubbing against the water repellent zipper pulls. hate this noise a lot a lot :(
oh, but just for sharing, the front vertical pocket also fits a folded up arcteryx softshell jacket well (gamma lt for me).

Has this noise improved for you over time?

@@CarryQuandaries hey! i don't have an answer for this unfortunately. Since COVID hit Singapore, I have been 100% working from home and all my backpacks are mostly in hibernation mode.

Able carry makes returns very difficult. It is a tedious process with multiple, time consuming requirements which must be precisely executed within two week from the time their product arrives at your doorstep. One digit was mistakenly inaccurate in the tracting number of my return, which I was required to enter and submit. My return package arrived at their facility and they didn’t bother filing my return, or notify me. The return had my return address clearly legible. Able carry intentionally complicates their return process to thwart returns. Had I not followed up on my return, I am quite certain they would have merely resold my backpack, and not credited me.
