Whether your a beginner potter or production pro looking for insiration this is a glazing video for you. Sit back and enjoy! Xo
Many of you have asked about glazing BRUSHES I thought I'd add this until I am able to do a more in depth video on tools, but I think this should hold you over. Some of the brushes that you see me use in my videos are from various Pottery Supply Stores, I have since purchased some from Amazon and Art Stores etc. and tested them out to see how much I like them...so far I'm impressed. I am sharing my Amazon Link with you for some brushes that I have purchased myself and quite like.

LOL Have a great week!
Hi KD!! Thank you! I’ve been filming a fair bit so I hope to be a little more consistent with my uploads. It’s the editing that takes time 😵💫😵💫Ya the Toasted Sage/ TT combo really surprised me but I’m pretty stoked. It was my first time using it so I’m going to have to experiment with it a bit more😉. Take care…btw I have a glaze problem too..lol!
@@SarahWaltonPottery I believe I will be doing a Bisque firing this weekend...and then perhaps next weekend a glaze firing. I am eager to get that Sunset Pink/AB combo done so I can see it for myself! This "work"-thing just gets in the way of my Mudroom time!Hoping things in the home front are calming/settling down for you. BTW the Hair is adorable! and you look amazing! I hope you feel as good as you look!
@@kdwalters4146 aww you’re so sweet! Thank you! I couldn’t agree more about this “work-thing” it definitely does get in the way of clay time! 😂
Really enjoy your videos! Just found u! I watched the video with the mishap. The pieces turned out much better! I learned so much💚
Thanks Patti! 🥰
Beautiful crystals! Love the clay too!
Thank you Lorelei! 🥰
Beautiful glazes and really great results, love your mugs 🥰
Thank you! And thanks for watching and supporting my channel!! 🙏🙏🙏
Nice combo! especially on that clay. The surprises make it interesting!
Thank you so much!!!
Love your pottery Sarah, would you share the type of clay…the red clay in this video and i think you were using a darker clay as well.
Hi Sue!! Thank you!! The clay that I use in this video is a Plainsman Clay M390. They are out of Alberta Canada and it’s a gorgeous smooth clay body to throw with! And the colour…speechless! The dark clay is from PSH 540i Black Clay, they too are a Canadian Pottery Supply House is also Canadian out of Oakville Ontario, but I believe they have a sister company in the US. It’s called black clay but fires to a rich dark ‘Oreo’ cookie brown at cone 6. It’s lovely to throw with! Thanks for watching!! ☺️
I really love your creativity ✨
Thanks for sharing.
I’m getting my pottery’s wheel tomorrow and I so excited to try some of the ideas that your created.
Thanks for sharing
Getting your own pottery wheel…Oh how exciting!! It’s so nice to have so that you can create whenever you want!! I’m so happy that you enjoyed my videos!! 🥰🥰
Beautiful combo. I will definitely be trying it once I'm able to fire my kiln . My kiln is an outdoor firewood kiln and is very difficult to use in the winter . I can't wait to fire my pieces have over 200 to bisk fire so far.
Thanks for the compliment Kathryn! I hope you get similar or better results in the wood burning kiln!
Love love love your kiln openings thank you so inspiring
Thank you! 😊
Like the glaze video
Thank you Linda!!
I think they are all beautyfull in they're own way. 👍🙂
🙏🙏🙏😊
Great combo
Thank you Karen! 🙏🙏🙏
Beautiful color combination!!! I am going to try this one out for sure. Thank you for sharing
I’m glad you like it and are going to give it a try! Let me know how it turns out for you!
Beautiful!!
Thank you!!
I love the glaze combo
Thank you Judith!
Love the colors. What was used to seal the red clay ?😮
Hi Paula! The red clay is bare. I’ve only glazed the parts that are in contact with food, and the handle.
Sonce
How do you wash the cups since the red is not sealed?😮
Your. We haircut looks great !
Sorry. Your new haircut looks great !
Thanks Kurt!! 🥰
Beautiful! what did you put on Maycos nail polish? did you put the crystal? because the color of the terra cotta not painted with enamels has changed colour, it is darker. Thank you
Hi Patty! Thank you! I believe you’re asking about the clay, it’s a dark red almost burgundy colour clay when fired to cone 6. It’s absolutely bare on the bottom. It a Plainsman Clay from Alberta Canada, M390 …one of my absolute favourites!
Nice hair cut
Thank you!!
This is beautiful!!!
Thanks so much Michele! 🤗🤗
do you have the link to the fan brushes you use?thanks!
Hi Anna, Sorry it's taken me longer to get back to you then it should have. Here is a link to the fan brush that I use, it's the #6 size - 1183R. It's pricy but worth it. Check out the links in my new video going live tomorrow Sat April 29th at 12pm EST it will have a whole host of links that you can check out and see if this gives you some more options...please let me know if this was helpful!! 🥰
when you glaze inside, do you do the same amount of layers eg 3 on the outside- 3 on the inside, love your kiln openings and your drip, they are just beautiful
Hi Denise, thank you for your question…but there is no exact answer. If you want the same look on the inside as the outside, then yes..but you don’t have too. You may use 3 coats on the inside and 4-5 coats on the outside as you may add layers just to the outside or vice versa. I hope that makes sense 😵💫🤔❤️
en Argentina no se consiguen esos esmaltes. enviaran si uno los compra?
Hola Maria, que pena que estos esmaltes no esten disponibles en Argentina! No tengo sugerencias para ti. Use el traductor de Google para esto. 🤪😊
Will Archies base turn paler when done at cone 6?
I’ve fired it ^5-^7 and it looks pretty much the same, it consistently has a a creamy white through slightly pink hue. I’ve never fired it alone so the glaze use it with will also play a factor…
Sarah, is that M390 from Plainsman? Love that clay!
You bet ya! Agreed, It’s just Gorgeous!!! And soo nice to work with!
Hi Sarah - you are the first person I have seen that has a kiln like I do. I am still relatively new to pottery. Can I ask how you do your firing? I do two hours with the first switch and then flip the next ones each hour afterwards. Is that how you do yours? Thanks for the help.
Hi Rose! This is going to be a long winded answer because there really isn’t a right wrong answer. Ido a variety of firings, but I find for the most part I flick a switch about every 2 hrs. I know my kiln hits ^6 around 10 hrs so if I want a hold I begin checking like every 15 min so I can turn it back on again. I’ve rigged a stick that holds the sitter in place then I don’t leave and wait the the 15 and shut it off again. I’ve gone the quicker route (a switch an hour) and I still got great results. I suggest while you learn your kiln to take notes. Like when you close the lid..if your running a fan..closing the peeps well the bottom one anyways. The first switch I keep the lid propped with both peeps open and an oscillating fan pointing at the kiln to push air thru..I can keep it like this through to the last switch sometimes and then maybe an hour or so I’ll go back and close the peep (I always keep the top peep open during my firing and close it during cool down) the lid I usually shut when I flick my third switch.. have fun experimenting!!😊good luck!
Very nice 👌
Thanks you!! 😘
Yes I was wondering where do you get your brushes from and what brand are they thank you😁
Hi Sandy, The brushes in this video are Amaco Brushes and I picked them up at Tuckers Pottery (a local pottery supply store) I’m sure you could get them either directly from Amaco or a Pottery supply near you. If not I’d try art supply stores and look for natural bristle brushes as they really pick up more product thus a better deposit of glaze. Thanks for your question and for watching 😉😊
Thank you so much love your pottery 😁
Btw... Your hair looks very nice 👍👍👍
Aww thanks Sylvia! 🥰
Love the combination. Can you tell me what that clay is? I’d love to try it.
M390? Thank you
Hi Debbie, I’m using Plainsman Clay M390 is the shade. They are from Alberta Canada. Check out their website you can see how the different clays fire at different temps. Really nice clay body to work with!
@@SarahWaltonPottery
I noticed that you didn’t clear glazed the clay that you didn’t glazed , is it save to wash ?
* excuse my English 🏃🏻♀️
@@ليانابراهيم-ز2ص hi, yes it’s safe to wash, and go in the dishwasher or microwave because it was fired to the correct temp for the clay body. That is enough to vitrify the clay. I wouldn’t leave a food surface without glaze that wouldn’t be food safe but on the outside of the vessel is perfectly fine..and it feels nice in the hand. Thanks for you question! 😉
Please what is the name of the glazing material and is it sold on Amazon?
Hi Amgad! I used 2x PC Toasted Sage and 3x PC Textured Turquoise. They weren’t available on Amazon when I checked, but some Potters Choice glaze shades. Keep checking and look for local pottery supply shops. Good luck 🤞
@@SarahWaltonPottery thank you
What kind of clay are you using?
This is Plainsman Clay M390. Plainsman Clay comes from Alberta Canada, it lovely to throw with…and gorgeous to look at!!
Hi ^^ first of all thanks for sharing your knowledge :D i got a question, how long do you wait up for it to dry until you put on the next coating layer? thx for a short answer
Hi, This is a great question and I’ll have to address it in a video, so thanks!!
When you glaze, brush or dip, you can see when it dries, it’s quite noticeable as it turns powdery. As you layer more coats it takes longer to dry in between each layer. The first and second layer takes only a few min, literally. When I’m on my 4-6th coat you start to notice it’s taking 30 min or so to dry between layers.
Once you see the powdery finish you know your good to add your next layer. Thanks for watching! 😉
@@SarahWaltonPottery ohh nice! thank you very much to have taken your time to answer! that helps a lot ^^
Is it stone clay?
Yes, the clay I use is stoneware.
HOTTIE!
😘😘thanks Megan!!
👍👍👍👍😁💕
Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Please what is the name of the glazing material and is it sold on Amazon?
The glazes used are Potters Choice by AMACO in Toasted Sage under Textured Turquoise. I list this info in the video and show how I apply it. I have seen some shades of PC Glazes on Amazon but not these particular ones at lease here in Canada.😊
